AEW Dynamite results and highlights (Feb. 12): MJF delivers vs. Dustin Rhodes, ignites Hangman Page feud

Wednesday's edition of "AEW Dynamite" before Saturday's Grand Slam event was on another level. Australia is going to get a serious treat this weekend. Two major storylines ran throughout the night, but one in particular stole the show. I've recently been asking for two things regarding MJF, specifically. The first was for him to wrestle more, and the second was for him to do something meaningful. Thankfully, those requests were answered on this "AEW Dynamite" in an overall story arc that was given an appropriate large portion of the show's time. Max Caster opened the night to troll his way into the ring and make an open challenge. Caster is good as a heel, but this "best wrestler alive" troll gimmick is lame and not what he was best at when he got over with Anthony Bowens and Billy Gunn. To continue last week's antics, Hangman Adam Page entered the ring and effectively put on a comedy squash match. I will say, the initial hiding in the crowd from Caster was hilarious. Hangman Adam Page has answered Max Caster's Open Challenge to KICK OFF Dynamite!Watch #AEWDynamite on @TBSNetwork & @SportsOnMax@PlatinumMax | #HangmanAdamPage — All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) February 13, 2025 After the match, Renee Paquette interviewed MJF briefly before Hangman interrupted to try and steal it. None too pleased, MJF cut the cowboy deep with an excellent promo that left him speechless. MJF was rightfully sick of all the disrespect and odd interruptions he'd received from his fellow former champion in recent weeks. With the drama building between these two, a slow burn felt on tap for their collision. I'm sure that would have worked and been great. But boy, we aren't waiting around now. MJF speaks on his showdown with Dustin Rhodes, but Hangman Adam Page has something to say!Watch #AEWDynamite on @TBSNetwork & @SportsonMax @ReneePaquette | @The_MJF | #HangmanAdamPage — All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) February 13, 2025 MJF will remind you every time he's in the ring just how damn good he is as a performer. The time between his matches often can make you forget, but that might be why we should appreciate them even more. By that same token, it's beyond me how Dustin Rhodes can still go to the level he does after a lifetime of wrestling. These two unsurprisingly meshed greatly between the ropes, and MJF gave us some fun Goldust callbacks and classic cartoonish — but not unrealistic — selling. The story within the match was essentially MJF trying to hurt Rhodes with his own moves while targeting an arm. A couple spots actually sold me a ticket for a minute. MJF's drop from the title scene gave a sense that a loss may have been possible. First, there was his attempt at the Cross Rhodes before Rhodes countered with one of his own. Then we got a piledriver from MJF, which was a pretty funny coincidence to see Rhodes kick out of after his brother, Cody Rhodes', feud with Kevin Owens. The big one, however, was a Shattered Dreams to Final Reckoning from Rhodes that MJF kicked out of at 2.5. That felt like it was it. Can Dustin Rhodes shatter MJF's dreams of victory?!Watch #AEWDynamite on @TBSNetwork & @SportsOnMax@The_MJF | @DustinRhodes — All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) February 13, 2025 A nice little touch to that whole sequence was the referee Bryce Remsburg removing a chair from Rhodes' arm when MJF threatened to break it from the top rope. I mean, yeah. That's what a realistic and competent official would do. Therefore, opening the window for Rhodes' blatantly illegal old finisher. Ultimately, MJF stole Rhodes' Final Reckoning after the kickout and won via submission from an armbar to crossface transition. This was just good — mostly clean — grasp. Then it happened. Hangman emerged afterward to give us one hell of a brawl through the arena. MJF tried to literally kill the guy by throwing him over the entryway rail. This was brilliant and given the proper time to feel significant. THE CROWD IS ALIVE FOR MJF & HANGMAN!#AEWDynamite — WrestlePurists (@WrestlePurists) February 13, 2025 This feud feels like exactly what both needed. Something intense to keep them both strong outside the title picture, which in turn will help them get back into it. The brief promo work so far has been excellent, will only get better, and the match will be a certified banger. I can't wait. This is how you do it. Right when you thought it was over after roughly three minutes of shenanigans, MJF enticed it to continue. They'll meet next week "face-to-face" on "AEW Dynamite." I always forget this company has trios titles. That's because there are too many titles. The Freebird rule was one of the best things WWE used through its abysmal rough path in the 2010s, specifically to help The New Day. If you're unfamiliar with that rule, it states that when a group of three holds the tag team titles, they're all considered the champions. They just have to decide which two members they'll have competed in their matches. Obviously, it's a kayfabe rule. That doesn't make it any less usable across professional wrestling. I don't know why WWE didn't take that as far as they could have during that time, utilizing more trios than just The New Day in the tag title scene. AEW should do that. Remove the trios titles, but keep trios, and have them all in one super-stacked tag team division. With all that said, the Undisputed Kingdom and the Death Riders delivered a solid title match. Death Riders retain the AEW World Trios titles after Wheeler Yuta low blow'd Kyle O' match, these Trios belts need to be defended regularly. That's for sure. — Drainmaker 🌧️ 💵 (@DrainBamager) February 13, 2025 There wouldn't have been any problems with the Undisputed Kingdom winning the match, and they probably should have to start the Death Riders' spiral. They could sure use the titles, too. It was a slow burn but picked up nicely with a relatively wild ending. Pac, Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta nearly lost their titles. Hanging on to get the win, the stable celebrated with a patented beatdown, of course. Meanwhile, their feared AEW World champion leader Jon Moxley had his title briefcase stolen by Cope and Jay White backstage. Cope and White later told Moxley to meet them in the ring at the end of the night if he wanted his title back. Inanimate object hostage situations are always fun, aren't they? When we reached that point in the night, we didn't get our beloved attempted murder of the night. Instead, a murderous threat! Moxley finally agreed to Cope's Revolution title challenge and promised to break his neck. Then Cope smashed the briefcase with his spiked bat and brawl, brawl, brawl. Had all the previous happenings occurred, I would have considered this the same old run-of-the-mill segment we've seen lately. This was good, though. We had some new wrinkles, and it required spacing out. Moxley accepted, but Cope is going to open up the case anyway!Watch #AEWDynamite on @TBSNetwork & @SportsOnMax@RatedRCope | @JayWhiteNZ | @JonMoxley | @MarinaShafir | @ClaudioCSRO | @WheelerYuta | @BASTARDPAC — All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) February 13, 2025 I love Cope despite absolutely despising him at his peak as a manipulative heel during my childhood. That's how good the dude can be. And as much as I want to see Moxley drop the title, or abandon this gimmick, Cope doesn't feel like the right guy for the job. I could even see White betraying him because that's right in line with his character, as he wants to be champ, too. Hell, it would kind of be reminiscent of classic Edge, wouldn't it? Harley Cameron will win the TBS Championship in Australia. Harley Cameron will win the TBS Championship in Australia. Harley Cameron will win the TBS Championship in Australia. If we say it enough times, it will happen, right? You can't convince me this wouldn't be a great idea. Yes, Mercedes Mone is a great champion and objectively one of the best on Earth. But Cameron can do no wrong right now — whether that's in English or Chinese! The woman is an absolute star, and the Grand Slam roof would blow off that building if she got the job done. FEEL THE WRATH! Harley Cameron has her sights set on TBS Championship at Grand Slam Australia!Watch #AEWDynamite on @TBSNetwork & @SportsonMax @harleycameron_ — All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) February 13, 2025 I know this is super optimistic, but Cameron doesn't know how not to captivate. She is the everything Swiss-Aussie Army knife of women's wrestling entertainment. Hurt Syndicate successfully defended their AEW World Tag Team titles against The Gunns in a fun main event match. Austin Gunn took the brunt of the first-half beating before Colten Gunn led a late rally, but they couldn't overcome the ultra-talented pairing of Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin. This was always what should have happened. What I didn't expect, however, was Lance Archer and Brian Cage coming out afterward to applaud them. I have seen the vision, you guys. Cage and Archer are part of the Don Callis Family. You know who is currently feuding with them? Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega. It's happening. I'm willing this into existence. 'WE HURRRRT PEOPLE! WE HURRRRT PEOPLE!'Watch #AEWDynamite on @TBSNetwork & @SportsOnMax@FightBobby | @SheltyB803 | @TheColtenGunn | @AustinGunn — All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) February 13, 2025 1. Samoa Joe, Hook and Katsuyori Shibata abused some poor jobbers. Sure, that's cool. I like it when any of those three do that. So, all together? Why Not? Joe challenged The Patriarchy to a match in a classic Joe promo afterward. 2. Megan Bayne also had a squash match. This honestly felt unnecessary after she beat Thunder Rosa, but Bayne is awesome and has an incredible presence. The big win here was her teasing a Kris Statlander program, as the latter made her entrance right after. Kris Statlander and Megan Bayne come face to face once again!Watch #AEWDynamite on @TBSNetwork & @SportsOnMax@MeganBayne | @CallMeKrisStat — All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) February 13, 2025 3. The Bayne win led right into Statland vs. Penelope Ford. This should be another separate entry because AEW's structure of this show with these flowing portions was beautiful. Stat and Ford put on a great match, like always, with Stat winning. Bayne then came back out after a Ford attack gave her the opening for an F-5 on Stat outside the ring. Seeing these two work together is going to be fantastic. Penelope fired Statlander up with that!Watch #AEWDynamite on @TBSNetwork & @SportsOnMax@CallMeKrisStat | @ThePenelopeFord — All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) February 13, 2025 Megan Bayne just gave Kris Statlander an F5 on the floor!!!FIRST ROSA, NOW STAT. MEGAN'S TAKING OUT EVERYONE IN AEW. — Drainmaker 🌧️ 💵 (@DrainBamager) February 13, 2025 4. AEW Women's World Champion Mariah May delivered a vintage backstage promo on Toni Storm towards the end of the show. The champ is getting more and more worked up about Storm's existence, almost convincing her of certain truths — or lack thereof. Whether or not their story continues after Grand Slam, it's going to be one hell of a conclusion. 1. Poor Willow Nightingale was attacked by Marina Shafir mid-interview. What did she ever do to you, Marina?! How rude. This episode's Uncrowned gem is a gem of all gems, and I'm not sure I noticed it as much as in previous weeks, but Renee Paquette really is a key piece to every "AEW Dynamite." She interviewed practically everyone and receives way more airtime than we might realize. And rightfully so because she's perfect in her role and adds so many little subtleties just with her expressions, no matter the scenario she's around. The camera loves Miss Paquette, and so do we. Dustin Rhodes brings the violence TONIGHT!Watch #AEWDynamite on @TBSNetwork & @SportsonMax @ReneePaquette | @dustinrhodes — All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) February 13, 2025 👑 I believe this is a first in Uncrowned history, folks. This show was . Crown score: 10/10 👑

AEW Dynamite results and highlights (Jan. 29): Jeff Jarrett almost gets his world title shot

Huntsville, Alabama, hosted "AEW Dynamite," and it was weird. Not the city, despite taking a brutal shot from AEW Women's World Champion Mariah May, who requested the "H" be replaced with a "C." However, the show itself had one serious extension of a reoccurring problem with the company's centerpiece, The Death Riders. I'm really proud of this heading, guys. Let's talk about... What's happening with Jeff Jarrett in AEW right now is downright maddening. The man wants his world title shot, and that's okay and understandable. There are ways to have fun with that and play with it wisely. Unfortunately, that is not happening. As soon as Jarrett's match with Claudio Castagnoli began — where if he won, he'd challenge the champion Jon Moxley — he got off far too much offense. Then Jarrett continued to remain in a competitive match with the AEW Trios Champ and NEEDED HELP TO WIN. WHAT. Claudio is already calling in reinforcements!Watch #AEWDynamite LIVE on @TBSNetwork & @SportsOnMax@RealJeffJarrett | @ClaudioCSRO | @WheelerYuta — All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) January 30, 2025 This very well may have been the most pathetic booking I've seen in AEW history. I've said it throughout the Death Riders' saga, but they shouldn't need any cheap tactics or aid in any of their victories — especially considering the mentality they have. Castagnoli waving for Wheeler Yuta mid-match had me audibly groaning in disbelief. No matter how bewildered Castagnoli could be by a competitive Jarrett, he should never have even considered needing help. Jon Moxley behind the referee's back!Watch #AEWDynamite LIVE on @TBSNetwork & @SportsOnMax@RealJeffJarrett | @ClaudioCSRO | @WheelerYuta | @JonMoxley — All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) January 30, 2025 The Sharpshooter to Sharpshooter counter from Jarrett was kind of cool, but this match was beyond pathetic, and Moxley — WHO SHOULD NOT CARE — hit a Paradigm Shift on Jarrett during a referee distraction to help Castagnoli win. What should have been a squash match to extend Jarrett's story differently was instead a colossal waste of time and an absurd booking choice. To top it off, MJF came out after the loss so that he could punch the old man with his diamond ring. This helps and serves no one — other than maybe Jarrett so that he can get TV time. Is Jeff Jarrett going to give "The Devil" MJF his due?!Watch #AEWDynamite LIVE on @TBSNetwork & @SportsOnMax@RealJeffJarrett | @The_MJF — All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) January 30, 2025 From the bottom of the barrel to the tip-top, let's talk about May and Toni Storm's absolute brilliance from "Collision" last Saturday. In case you missed it, watch the entire segment from the show because it was absolute brilliance. "Timeless Toni" went nowhere, and her amnesia act was entirely that — Storm playing the old version of herself as the actress character rather than a female version of "Broken" Matt Hardy. The swerve could have been drawn out a tad longer, but it landed so epically because of what it was. This is the wrestling cinema we desire and contrasts AEW's garbage with Jarrett. How can these stories exist within the same company? AEW Women's World Champion Mariah May has a harsh message for Timeless Toni Storm!Watch #AEWDynamite LIVE on @TBSNetwork & @SportsOnMax@MariahMayX | #TimelessToniStorm — All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) January 30, 2025 May spoke on Dynamite on the ramp with Renee Paquette before she lashed out at mentions of Storm and what happened. "She's not real!" May exclaimed before she collected herself. The champion displayed signs of bother on this show and "Collision" but remained arrogantly confident. Both women are such great titleholders that I'm unsure which direction the feud will go. Seeing how much further into a chaotic force May can be after a title loss probably has the most meat on it and gives an easy extension to an eventual trilogy. I have no idea, and that's perfect. We're sitting back and happily enjoying the ride with this one. May and Storm's story is the best thing going on in AEW right now — aside from Will Ospreay matches and Harley Cameron, of course. No, it's not Sheamus, but he'd fit right in with Ospreay or Brian Cage. I really wish Cage had played a more significant role in AEW from the start. He should have been a bigger player than he's been. Sure, he had some world title shots, but the guy could have been special. I mean, he hit an F5 off the top rope, man. Brock Lesnar could never. Brian Cage has Will Ospreay completely scouted!Watch #AEWDynamite LIVE on @TBSNetwork & @SportsOnMax@WillOspreay | @BrianCageGMSI | @TheDonCallis — All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) January 30, 2025 Ospreay jumped into a suplex outside the ring early in the match and was carried all the way toward the announce table by Cage. The camera work here was exceptional; I'd never seen a spot like that before. Considering how long Ospreay had to escape, it's admittedly silly, but Cage is incredible and can do anything — including taking a Styles Clash for the loss. Lance Archer attacked Ospreay after the match before Kenny Omega came to make the save. Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita appeared to make the counter save, but then they beat up the two for an awkwardly long time. This honestly felt like a mistake because their music played three times. I'm not kidding. It got comical. Nonetheless, Cage and Ospreay are an awesome combination. More matches between them won't garner a complaint from me. I was very pleased to see some love for the TBS Championship match on "Dynamite" and, more so, the spotlight on Japan's Yuka Sakazaki. The first Moneymaker counter from Sakazaki was awesome, but the ending of this match felt a little weird and maybe even botched after the Magical Girl Splash roll-up. Referee Aubrey Edwards seemed to have made a miscount. Thankfully, it led to a pretty lovely follow-up sequence and a Moneymaker win for Mercedes Mone. Is this Yuka's chance?!Watch #AEWDynamite LIVE on @TBSNetwork & @SportsOnMax@MercedesVarnado | @YukaSakazaki — All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) January 30, 2025 These women's chemistry was good and worthy of the closer. However, I don't know what the idea here is with Mone. The belt-collector gimmick is always fun, but there's no substance to it right now, and she doesn't have a rival. There's Kris Statlander. We've seen her keep falling short, though. Jamie Hayter feels like the obvious choice to push toward the belt since the world title picture is occupied. 1. AEW is teasing something between MJF and Hangman Adam Page. We'll take that all day, every day over MJF in a Jarrett program. 2. Ricochet vs. AR Fox was a good match, and more than anything, it kept Fox looking strong in back-to-back defeats. "Rico" kind of looked like an Assassin's Creed villain on his way to the ring, which is a nice contrast to Ospreay's hero. Before he left the arena, Swerve Strickland went on the attack, serving a small appetizer for next week's match. Swerve Strickland is here, but Ricochet still has the scissors!Watch #AEWDynamite LIVE on @TBSNetwork & @SportsOnMax@KingRicochet | @ARealFoxx | @SwerveConfident — All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) January 30, 2025 3. The New York Minute is always fun, and it seems to be building toward Big Bill leaving The Learning Tree as Chris Jericho keeps talking down to him. 1. As I said earlier, it's a loss anytime Cameron isn't on TV. However, Deonna Purrazzo and Taya Valkyrie aren't happy with everyone's favorite wrathful Aussie. They made it a point to put a target on her bogan backside. Talk about some rude Sheilas... The Vendetta Deonna Purrazzo & Taya Valkyrie sends a message to Harley Cameron!Watch #AEWDynamite LIVE on @TBSNetwork & @SportsonMax @DeonnaPurrazzo | @thetayavalkyrie — All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) January 30, 2025 A Yuta loss is always welcome! Jay White got to put it on his floppy-haired rival in a very solid match. That's the thing about this iteration of Yuta; he's just a brainwashed bozo. In reality, he's an excellent wrestler who can go. Remember how he was built up early into his AEW career? The dude had some serious star potential. The match relied heavily on each man exploiting the other's legs, and ultimately, White hit a pair of Bladerunners on the Death Rider. As they always do, though, nothing with the Death Riders can end without them attacking someone. Rinse and repeat. SUPERPLEX FROM JAY WHITE!Watch #AEWDynamite LIVE on @TBSNetwork & @SportsOnMax@JayWhiteNZ | @WheelerYuta — All Elite Wrestling (@AEW) January 30, 2025 Rated FTR made the save when White needed it, leading to FTR vs. Moxley and Yuta in a "Midsouth Street Fight" on Saturday. That should be one hell of a match. I'm just ready to end the Death Riders as soon as possible. 👑The bad was very bad on this "Dynamite," so our crown scale is out of whack. This one gets a 4.5/10 score. 👑
