Priyank flags more cases of ‘vote theft'

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge flagged more instances of alleged 'vote fraud' in the Mahadevapura Assembly constituency in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, had earlier alleged widespread voter manipulation during the 2024 parliamentary elections, citing data from Mahadevapura that falls in the Bengaluru Central LS constituency. On Wednesday, Mr. Kharge showed instances where, allegedly, wedding cards, Aadhaar cards without proper addresses, Transfer Certificates (TCs), Comed-K hall tickets, which are not among the documents that can be submitted for a verifiable, valid address proof that the Election Commission mandates, were used to register voters in the constituency. He expressed suspicion that fake Aadhaar cards were also being generated to register fake voters. He further illustrated two examples where one Gurukreet Singh Dang was given four EPIC cards in different booths and Sonal Awasthi was given five EPIC cards in the same booth. Mr. Kharge further said that during the counting for Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha seat in 2024, the Congress candidate had a lead of nearly 75,000-80,000 till the Mahadevapura Assembly seat was counted, and in that one seat, the BJP candidate got a lead of 1.14 lakh votes, eventually defeating the Congress candidate, which was suspicious. He further argued that, as per ECI norms, in any constituency, if there is an addition of over 4% to the electoral rolls, there has to be an on-ground verification. 'But in the case of Mahadevapura between just 2023 and 2024, around 52,000 voters, which 8.6% were added to the list,' he said, asking ECI whether an on-ground verification was indeed done as per the manual.

BRSV Stages Protest in Gadwal Demanding Immediate Release of Fee Reimbursement and Scholarships.

Gadwal: Under the leadership of Bharat Rashtra Samithi Vidyarthi (BRSV) State Leader and Jogulamba Gadwal District Coordinator Kuruvu Pallayya, a massive protest rally was organized at Krishnaveni Junction in Gadwal town on Thursday. The rally was held to demand the immediate release of pending fee reimbursement and scholarship amounts that are allegedly being withheld by the Telangana state government. Addressing the gathering, Kuruvu Pallayya expressed deep anguish that even after nearly 1.5 years since the formation of the new government, the Revanth Reddy-led administration has failed to clear the dues related to student welfare schemes like scholarships and fee reimbursement. He accused the government of discrimination against poor and marginalized students, stating that the delay was severely impacting their access to higher education. He said students from both government and private institutions are being forced to pay fees in advance due to government negligence, which contradicts the very essence of public welfare. Highlighting the lack of basic facilities in government educational institutions, Pallayya also criticized the Union Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the corporatization of the education sector has intensified under his regime. Kuruvu Pallayya went on to list a series of broken promises by the Congress government, including: Creation of 2 lakh jobs within the first 100 days Allocation of 15% of the budget for the education sector Direct financial assistance to SC/ST students based on qualifications: ₹10,000 for SSC pass ₹15,000 for Intermediate pass ₹25,000 for Degree pass ₹1 lakh for PG pass ₹5 lakhs for PhD pass He labeled these assurances as blatant lies and betrayals of the youth. He further alleged that students, particularly from economically weaker and middle-class families, are struggling to continue their education due to non-receipt of fee reimbursement and scholarship funds. Many are unable to collect their original certificates like Transfer Certificates (TCs) from colleges due to unpaid dues, thereby dropping out of higher education despite securing good ranks in entrance exams. Highlighting the plight of hostel students, he criticized the government for failing to increase hostel mess charges and cosmetic allowances in line with rising costs. Students are reportedly suffering from malnutrition due to poor-quality food, and living in cramped hostel rooms due to the lack of proper infrastructure. The protest leader strongly condemned the government's discriminatory treatment toward the 1,023 Gurukul (residential) institutions, most of which cater to underprivileged communities. He demanded: Immediate cancellation of GO No. 29, which he claimed was hindering Group-1 recruitments Implementation of GO No. 55 for job appointments Allocation of funds to improve infrastructure and food quality in Gurukul schools He cited recent incidents to highlight the alarming state of affairs: Students of Uyyalawada Gurukul were hospitalized due to food poisoning Students from Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Gurukul in Alampur constituency staged protests complaining of insects in food, lack of drinking water, and unhygienic bathrooms He accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of deliberately neglecting Gurukul institutions, allegedly because they were introduced by former CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), thus engaging in political vendetta at the cost of student welfare. The protest concluded with a stern warning: If the government fails to release the pending fee reimbursement and scholarship funds immediately, BRSV will launch a large-scale agitation and lay siege to the Secretariat. Several student leaders and activists participated in the rally, including Maz, Madhav, Chinna, Jahangir, Afrid, and hundreds of students from various institutions. This protest reflects a growing dissatisfaction among student communities across Telangana regarding delays in welfare schemes, deteriorating infrastructure, and unmet promises by the current administration. With the academic year in progress and many students caught in financial limbo, the situation may escalate further if remedial action is not taken swiftly.

Students threaten to quit over eggs in mid-day meals in Karnataka school near temple

Eighty students have threatened to leave a government school in Karnataka's Mandya district after eggs were cooked on the premises as part of the mid-day Education Department's decision to serve eggs at the school has drawn sharp opposition from villagers, who say the practice violates long-standing religious norms. With the school located next to the Veerabhadreshwara Swamy temple, villagers argue that cooking eggs in the vicinity goes against their traditions, which prohibit meat or eggs near the temple the school's 120 students, 80 have now opted out of receiving eggs. Parents have warned school officials that if eggs continue to be cooked on campus, they will withdraw their children. Several have already requested Transfer Certificates (TCs). 'We are requesting TC for our children because eggs are being cooked in the school premises, which goes against our religious beliefs,' said one of the parents. 'We had requested the school to provide bananas instead.'Parents also said they are not opposing the distribution of eggs as a policy, but only the method of cooking them in the school. They claim that for years, a mutual arrangement was followed where students who didn't eat eggs were given bananas or chikki, and the eggs were handed over to school staff to take home.'But suddenly, without involving us, the school resumed cooking eggs on the premises,' noted a Principal of the school has urged parents to reconsider, saying the school is only following government policy.'If even one student requests eggs, we are required to provide them. Major protest marks fee exploitation by private schools

Gadwal: In a show of resistance, student organisations came together on Saturday to protest the alleged fee exploitation and irregularities being carried out by private schools in Aiza Mandal of the Alampur constituency, Jogulamba Gadwal district. The protest rally, which began at Telangana Chowrasta and concluded at the New Bus Stand, saw students raising slogans and holding placards condemning what they described as 'commercialization of education.' Following the rally, a delegation of student leaders submitted a memorandum to the Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO), urging immediate intervention and strict action against erring schools, particularly the Sri Krishnaveni Private School, which was singled out for multiple alleged violations. Student leaders alleged that private schools in the region were collecting exorbitant and unregulated fees, in clear violation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act and existing fee regulation laws. They claimed that the Sri Krishnaveni School was forcing parents to purchase uniforms, textbooks, and notebooks at inflated prices from a shop operated illegally beside the school. The school's management had set up a fake certificate-backed book centre and was openly selling books on the roadside, yet no action was taken by education officials despite earlier complaints to the District Collector. The Mandal Education Officer (MEO) allegedly ignored direct instructions from the District Education Officer (DEO) to seize the illegal book stock, and even remarked that he would only take action 'if provided protection.' Furthermore, the students claimed that Bonafide and Transfer Certificates (TCs) were being issued only after collecting up to Rs 2,000 from Class 10 students. The school fee for Class 10 was increased from Rs 28,000 in the academic year 2024–25 to Rs 34,000 for 2025–26 without any justification. School staff, including drivers and teachers, were reportedly forced by the management to protest in front of the MEO office, allegedly with the support of the MEO himself. The situation escalated when student union leaders visited another school, Sri Chaitanya, after receiving reports about similar irregularities. They were allegedly assaulted by men linked to Krishnaveni School owner Madhusudan Reddy, who reportedly sent his drivers to threaten and attack the students. Demanding justice, the protestors urged the authorities to suspend the MEO for negligence and bias; cancel the recognition of Sri Krishnaveni School for repeated violations; file criminal charges against the school owner Madhusudan Reddy and the individuals involved in the assault; and enforce the RTE Act to ensure that 25% of seatsare reserved for underprivileged students.

Train ticket checkers in Kalyan pose as ticketless passengers to nab fake TC

After repeated complaints of a fake Ticket Checker (TC) duping passengers in the general compartment of long distance trains, a Railways team, with its own TCs and police, posed as ticketless travellers and nabbed the accused from Kushinagar Superfast Express train on Wednesday. They also seized a fake receipt book which the accused, Ramprakash Mandal, 40, a Virar resident, used to extort money from unsuspecting travellers. An official from Kalyan Government Railway Police (GRP) said that their team, wearing civilian dress and led by Haresh Dahilkar, boarded and saw a person (Mandal) wearing a TC uniform asking people for their tickets. 'When he came to them, the four TCs claimed that they wanted to go from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus to Gorakhpur but did not have the tickets. The accused told them to pay a fine of Rs 2,640,' said an officer. When they checked the receipt, it turned out to be fake following which they alerted the Railway Protection Force and nabbed the accused. The police found that he was also using a fake badge. Mandal was handed over to the Kalyan GRP that registered a case and arrested Mandal. An officer said that Mandal took advantage of the fact that usually TCs did not come to the general compartment, especially during the vacations period when it is crowded. Mandal told the police that he got the idea when he himself was caught travelling ticketless and was asked to pay a fine. 'He then took the receipt he was given to a Virar shop where he covered his name with white ink and got several copies of the receipts which he then used to dupe people,' he said. The Railways took action based on the complaint received by senior divisional commercial manager Arun Kumar.
