IIT-Patna welcomes record 783 new students at 3-day induction
1 2 Patna: Indian Institute of Technology-Patna (IIT-P) on Friday welcomed a record number of 783 newly admitted students, including 161 girls, on its campus on the first day of their three-day orientation programme. The aim of the three-day event is to familiarise them with the academic environment, co-curricular activities, campus resources and institutional support systems available at IIT-Patna. Admitted through JEE (Advanced) 2025, the students, along with family members, turned up on the campus from different states, with pride and enthusiasm writ large on their faces. Addressing the newcomers, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL)'s director (R&D) Alok Sharma, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said that students joining this institution deserve all encouragements from the society as they have achieved this success through a cut-throat competition. He encouraged them to maintain a positive attitude and take proactive steps towards success in life. Welcoming the students and their parents on the campus, IIT-P director T N Singh said that there is no shortcut to success and hence students must pursue their studies with patience and positive attitude. "You must keep learning continuously and prepare yourself well to face the challenges in life boldly. Commas and semicolons are always there in life, but full stops are never acceptable," he said. Dean of administration-cum-registrar A K Thakur highlighted IIT-Patna's legacy as a modern centre of learning equipped with cutting-edge facilities. "We uphold ancient traditions of scholarship while embracing modern technology for the holistic development of our students," he said. Sushant Kumar, associate dean for undergraduate studies, briefed students about the academic roadmap ahead and elaborated on the wide array of learning opportunities offered by the institute. In course of the next two days of their orientation, the students will participate in interactive sessions and campus visits, exposing them to the academic departments, laboratories, central library, students' activity centre, career development resources, and sports and wellness facilities.

101 women mathematicians attends 3-day IIT-P conference
Patna: A three-day annual conference on "The Indian women and mathematics" commenced at the Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT-P) here on Thursday, with the enthusiastic participation of 101 women mathematicians drawn from across the country. Inaugurating the conference, IIT-P director T N Singh eulogized India's rich mathematical heritage and recalled the valuable contribution of Aryabhatta and other distinguished mathematicians of the country. "Without mathematics, nothing can truly be imagined," he said. Organising secretary of the conference, Kumari Saloni, emphasised the importance of providing a dedicated platform for women in mathematics. He said, "The conference would foster meaningful academic engagement and mentorship for women in mathematical sciences, and bring together women researchers at the national forefront by highlighting their innovative ideas." IIT-P's academic dean A K Thakur highlighted the institution's commitment to fostering a thriving culture of mathematical research, with special reference to women. "The conference would feature 24 parallel sessions spanning a wide range of mathematical disciplines, along with three plenary talks, three invited lectures, and six presentations by early-career researchers. Poster sessions would offer young mathematicians the opportunity to engage directly with established experts, encouraging mentorship and collaboration," said the organising secretary. Supported by the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Govt of India, this conference marks a significant step toward fostering inclusivity and advancing women's leadership in the mathematical sciences.

IIT-Patna conclave discusses rural transformation
Patna: Policymakers, technologists, domain experts and grassroots change-makers deliberated on innovative and sustainable solutions for rural development at a national conclave, aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, hosted by Foundation for Innovators in Science and Technology (Fist) at IIT-Patna on Thursday. Inaugurating the conclave, IIT-P director T N Singh expressed his appreciation for the multidisciplinary approach of the conclave and reaffirmed the institution's commitment to research and innovation geared toward rural transformation. He called upon the stakeholders to work hard to ensure the complete transformation of rural India with a view to making the country developed. Introducing the central theme of the conclave, Fist's chief executive officer Praveen Kumar underscored the critical need for technological innovations in addressing the industrial challenges in rural sectors. He highlighted ongoing initiatives at Fist that bridge the gap between research findings and their on-ground application, particularly through entrepreneurship and technology incubation. The chairman of the Viksit Bharat Project - Mission 2047 presented an overview of its objectives and emphasised the shared responsibilities of the govt, academia, startups and civil society in transforming India's villages into engines of inclusive growth and innovation. Prominent among those who participated in the deliberations were HSPC director Afsar Imam, Gujarat-based TS University's Jeena Madan, Hostage India's Chairman Sandeep Gupta and ILCS' general manager Prem Sharma.

Patna: Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT-P) successfully conducted its virtual open house for JEE Advanced 2025 qualified candidates and their families on Friday evening, for imparting an insightful overview of the institute's academic offerings, research excellence, and dynamic campus life. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now This interactive event was designed to help prospective students and their guardians make informed decisions on joining the institution by showcasing IIT Patna's globally-aligned academic programmes, state-of-the-art infrastructure, innovative research ecosystem, and strong placement and internship opportunities. Participants also explored the vibrant student culture at IIT Patna that supports their holistic growth through clubs, cultural activities, and extracurricular engagements. The open house featured engaging presentations and live question-answer sessions with the institute's leadership, including director T N Singh, academic dean (undergraduate) Sushant Kumar, academic dean (student affairs) P K Tiwari, and several other faculty members. The participants received a detailed overview of 32 major and minor academic programmes across 18 disciplines being conducted in the institution. They were also given the details of an interdisciplinary dual degree (B Tech-MBA) programme offered in collaboration with IIM Mumbai and IIM Bodh Gaya, and a six-month industry internship designed to provide real-world experience. The open house also organised sessions on the key aspects of the JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counselling process, international research collaborations, and the wide array of student support systems available at IIT Patna.
