Time of India4 hours ago

Patna: Policymakers, technologists, domain experts and grassroots change-makers deliberated on innovative and sustainable solutions for rural development at a national conclave, aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, hosted by Foundation for Innovators in Science and Technology (Fist) at IIT-Patna on Thursday.
Inaugurating the conclave, IIT-P director T N Singh expressed his appreciation for the multidisciplinary approach of the conclave and reaffirmed the institution's commitment to research and innovation geared toward rural transformation. He called upon the stakeholders to work hard to ensure the complete transformation of rural India with a view to making the country developed.
Introducing the central theme of the conclave, Fist's chief executive officer Praveen Kumar underscored the critical need for technological innovations in addressing the industrial challenges in rural sectors.
He highlighted ongoing initiatives at Fist that bridge the gap between research findings and their on-ground application, particularly through entrepreneurship and technology incubation.
The chairman of the Viksit Bharat Project - Mission 2047 presented an overview of its objectives and emphasised the shared responsibilities of the govt, academia, startups and civil society in transforming India's villages into engines of inclusive growth and innovation.
Prominent among those who participated in the deliberations were HSPC director Afsar Imam, Gujarat-based TS University's Jeena Madan, Hostage India's Chairman Sandeep Gupta and ILCS' general manager Prem Sharma.

Foxconn to build Nvidia AI servers using humanoid robots from next year: Report

Foxconn and Nvidia are reportedly planning to use humanoid robots to build Nvidia's next-generation AI servers at a new Foxconn facility in Houston, according to a Reuters report. This would mark the first time an Nvidia product is manufactured with the help of humanoid robots, and it could also be a first for Foxconn's AI server production lines. The use of robots on this scale signals a major shift in how factories might function in the near future, especially as more companies invest in automation and robotics to boost efficiency and reduce dependency on human labour for repetitive per sources, Foxconn and Nvidia are still finalising the deployment, which is expected to take shape in the coming months. If everything goes to plan, the humanoid robots will be introduced in the first quarter of 2026, when the Houston plant is scheduled to begin producing Nvidia's upcoming GB300 AI not yet confirmed how many robots will be deployed or what exact roles they'll perform. However, a company presentation from May suggests Foxconn has been training humanoid robots to do tasks like picking and placing objects, inserting cables, and handling basic assembly work — all of which are crucial functions on a server production line. Foxconn is reportedly working on its own humanoid robots in collaboration with Nvidia and has also tested models from China-based UBTech. That said, it's still unclear which specific type of robot will be used at the Houston site. One advantage the new factory has is space — being a fresh facility, it offers more room for robotic integration compared to Foxconn's older manufacturing Foxconn nor Nvidia have commented on the matter so far. The sources cited in the report declined to be named as they are not authorised to speak to the an event in Taipei last month, Leo Guo, general manager of the robotics division at Foxconn Industrial Internet, shared that the company plans to unveil two types of humanoid robots at its annual tech event in November. One version will feature robotic legs, while the other will have a wheeled base, which is expected to be more meanwhile, has been investing heavily in AI infrastructure. Back in April, the company revealed plans to set up supercomputer manufacturing plants in Texas, partnering with Foxconn in Houston and Wistron in Dallas. These facilities are expected to begin ramping up production in about 12 to 15 Nvidia, this move further cements its role in the robotics space. Apart from using humanoid robots, the company also provides platforms that robot makers can build on. Earlier this year, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang predicted that humanoid robots would become common in factories within five other companies are exploring similar paths. Car manufacturers like Mercedes-Benz and BMW have already experimented with humanoid robots on their production lines. Tesla is working on its own robot, while China has been actively supporting robotics development in hopes of automating large portions of factory work.

Why BBC has 'threatened' AI company led by Desi CEO

The BBC has threatened legal action against US AI search engine Perplexity in an effort to block the company from using its vast content archives to train AI models. The British national broadcaster alleges that Perplexity's AI model was trained on BBC content without permission. In a letter to Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas , seen by the Financial Times, the BBC stated it has evidence that the San Francisco-based startup's "default AI model" was "trained using BBC content." The letter outlines a clear demand: the BBC could seek an injunction unless Perplexity immediately ceases scraping all BBC content, deletes any copies of the broadcaster's material used for AI development, and provides "a proposal for financial compensation" for the alleged intellectual property infringement. This move marks the first time the publicly funded British broadcaster has directly challenged an AI company on this issue. Perplexity dismisses claims, says BBC wants to "to preserve Google's illegal monopoly" The Google rival, however, has rejected the BBC's allegations, calling the claims as "manipulative and opportunistic," asserting that the BBC has "a fundamental misunderstanding of technology, the internet and intellectual property law." Perplexity further contended that the BBC's actions were an attempt "to preserve Google's illegal monopoly for its own self-interest." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like USDJPY đang đi lên không? Instead, it provides an interface allowing users to choose between models developed by other major players, including OpenAI, Google and Anthropic. A source close to Perplexity indicated that its in-house model is derived from Meta's Llama and is refined to enhance accuracy and reduce "hallucinations," where AI models generate false information. Karnataka min writes to Jaishankar seeking clarification on denial of clearance for US visit

Bengaluru, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge has written to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar seeking a formal clarification on the denial of political clearance for his scheduled official visit to the United States of America. Karnataka min writes to Jaishankar seeking clarification on denial of clearance for US visit He said the visit scheduled from June 14 to 27 was planned around two significant international forums, the BIO International Convention in Boston and the Design Automation Conference in San Francisco. However, due to denial of permission, according to sources, he was forced to cut short his trip and returned from Paris to Bengaluru on Wednesday night. According to Kharge, he had scheduled several official meetings with top companies, universities and institutions in the US where he was to represent the Government of Karnataka to explore collaborations, attract investments and create employment opportunities for the state. Taking to social media platform 'X' on Friday, he said that he has written to Jaishankar, seeking clarity on why political clearance for his official visit to the US was denied. "I do so with a deep sense of responsibility to the people of Karnataka, to whom I am duty-bound. The visit was aimed at strengthening collaborations, attracting investments and creating employment opportunities for the state," he said. Kharge expressed that denying a Cabinet Minister and the "custodian of one of the world's largest technology clusters", the ability to carry out such official responsibilities without explanation, raises serious concerns. It was not only against the interests of the state but also undermines the spirit of cooperative federalism. In his letter dated June 19, Kharge stated that participation in such visits are aligned with the national priorities and would have directly supported the larger vision of Viksit Bharat laid out by the Prime Minister. He stated that in the absence of a formal communication from the Ministry outlining the reasons for denial, it becomes difficult to assess and plan future engagements of this nature. It also raises concerns about the consistency of the process, especially when the visits are official, sector-critical and in national interest. "I would therefore request the Ministry to kindly provide a formal explanation for the denial and consider a more transparent and consultative approach in handling such official engagements in the future," he added.
