170 Kannada teachers from CBSE schools across state honoured

Mysuru: In a proud celebration of Kannada language education, 170 Kannada teachers from CBSE schools across Karnataka were felicitated with the prestigious Pariksha Spoorthi Guru Shreshta Award–2025. The awards, instituted by the Pariksha Spoorthi Foundation in collaboration with the Mysuru Zilla Kannada Sahitya Parishat, were presented at an event hosted at the JSS Women's College on Sunday. The award recognises Kannada teachers whose students secured full marks (100/100) in the Kannada paper in the CBSE Class 10 exams of 2024. The initiative aims not only to celebrate teaching excellence, but also to ensure Kannada retains a strong presence within the national curriculum and continues to be a source of linguistic pride for future generations. Krishnaraja MLA TS Srivatsa, who presented the awards, commended the teachers for their unwavering dedication in promoting Kannada in non-state board institutions. "There is no equivalent to Kannada—it is an inspiration in itself. It's the language with the highest number of Jnanpith Awards and has a heritage that binds communities," he said. He also took pride in Mysuru's legacy as a cultural and literary hub, which he described as the cradle of grassroots journalism and several artistic movements. JD(S) MLC K Vivekananda, who inaugurated the ceremony, struck a note of concern regarding the fading presence of Kannada medium and govt schools. "At this rate, in a decade, there may be none left. The school I once attended no longer exists. Yet, in such challenging times, these teachers stand out as torch-bearers, enabling students to excel in Kannada despite systemic odds," he said. Two Kannada language resources were released—Pariksha Spoorthi (unveiled by Niranjanamurthy, deputy director, department of college education, JSS Mahavidyapeetha), and Kannada Vyakrana Sampada—was launched by Maddikere Gopal, president, Mysuru Zilla Kannada Sahitya Parishat. Dignitaries present included A Sudheendra (MD, IFEMED) and Yogesh Chunchanahalli (president, Pariksha Spoorthi Foundation). The directive came during a meeting held at the DC's office on Tuesday to review civic and infrastructure issues in the Krishnaraja assembly constituency. MLA TS Srivatsa voiced serious concerns over the delays in issuing e-khatas, citing recent Lokayukta raids at zonal offices as a fallout of such inefficiencies. In response, officials provided updates. According to that, zone 1 has no pending e-khata files, while zone 2 has around 200 applications pending due to online portal issues, and zone 9 has approximately 150 files pending, which are expected to be cleared within 2 to 3 days. On infrastructure, the MLA demanded immediate completion of long-pending roadworks at Vijaya Bank Circle, Vivekananda Circle, and Siddaganga Seer Circle on Vishwa Manava Double Road in Kuvempu Nagar, stalled for over a year. The DC acknowledged delays, particularly at Siddaganga Seer Circle, where work halted over concerns regarding the statue's visibility. He instructed officials to consult local leaders, and if no objections arise, resume and complete the project without further delay. The MLA highlighted water scarcity in areas including Narayanshastri Road, Ittigegudu, Srirampura, BEML Layout, and Mahendra Layout, urging reallocation of resources. The DC added that of the additional 30 million litres per day (MLD) sourced from Kabini, 15 MLD should be allocated to the KR Constituency. MDA commissioner KR Rakshith informed that out of Rs 9.5 crore worth of development works in the constituency, three projects were completed, and one is in progress.

BJP MLA criticises Cong for protocol violation Mys Samavesha

M ysuru: Krishnaraja MLA TS Srivatsa criticised Congress' Sadhana Samavesha held in the city on Saturday, alleging it was a "power show" organised under the guise of a govt event. Speaking to reporters here on Monday, he accused the Congress of breaching protocol and misusing taxpayer money for political gains. He said that BJP is ready for an open public debate on development. The BJP MLA said that the invitation for the event, organised in the name of the state govt, failed to mention former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, a Rajya Sabha MP, while including AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Surjewala's name. He also noted that other than Union minister HD Kumaraswamy's name, other central ministers' names were omitted, calling it a deliberate oversight. He highlighted central govt contributions to Mysuru, including Rs 2,627 crore for national highway projects, funding for railway underpasses, Rs 1,393 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission, and over Rs 10,000 crore under the Mudra Yojana, benefiting 5,38,000 people in the district. He challenged the Congress to a public debate, asserting that they falsely claimed the Centre provided no funds to Mysuru.
