My cinema chain in every house, pocket: Aamir on YouTube premiere for 'Sitaare Zameen Par'
A cinema chain in every house and pocket. That, says Aamir Khan, is the idea behind his novel move to bypass OTT platforms and instead release his latest film Sitaare Zameen Par on his YouTube channel through a pay-per-view model. It is what audiences have always done when they pay each time they visit a theatre. And now that's what they can do by paying Rs 100 to watch his newest offering on the recently launched YouTube channel 'Aamir Khan Talkies'. The channel will also stream other films under the Aamir Khan Productions banner as well as old titles produced by his father Tahir Hussain, he said. "This is my private cinema chain. Think of it like Aamir Khan Productions has opened a new cinema chain, which is in everyone's house and in everyone's pocket," Aamir told PTI in an interview about his attempt to democratise the movie-watching experience and reach out to those who can't afford multiplexes. The actor-filmmaker said he was offered good money from streamers to release his film on their platform. But with increasing internet and UPI payments in India, including rural areas, YouTube's accessibility could mean a massive change in how movies are distributed post-theatrical release.

Aamir Khan, who is trying different measures to revive the Hindi film business, has announced on Tuesday that all his upcoming films will be releasing on his YouTube Channel, titled Aamir Khan Talkies, after their theatrical releases. At a special meet and greet with media in Mumbai, Aamir Khan said all his films and films by his father Tahir Hussain will be available on this platform. Aamir Khan's last theatrical release, Sitaare Zameen Par, will release on the YouTube channel on August 1. Based on a pay-per-watch model, one has to pay Rs 100 to watch Sitaare Zameen Par on the platform called Aamir Khan Talkies. What's Happening Apart from Aamir Khan's films, his iconic television show Satyamev Jayate will also be released on this platform. Satyameva Jayate would be free to viewers. Aamir Khan also said that he wants to provide a platform to the budding directors. So, young directors, who struggle to show their films in theatres, will also get a chance to release their films on the platform. The ticket, priced at Rs 100, will be vaild for 48 hours. If you can't watch within the time frame, you have to pay more. Aamir Khan also said that this initiative is aimed at stoping piracy. He said, "No one wants to engage in piracy business in the first place. But what's happening in the last few years that we can't make our films reach the audience in the remote corners of the world. The films come to television almost a year after its theatrical release. You have to watch adverts during the show. For a clean watch, this pay-per-model has been introduced." Aamir Khan also apologised to the media for hiding his plan of releasing movies on YouTube earlier. He said had he told this before, it would have hurt the film business. Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par is one of the highest-grossing films of the year 2025. It minted approx Rs 262.75 crore worldwide as per a Mint report. Sitaare Zameen Par Apart from Aamir Khan, Sitaare Zameen Par also features Genelia D'Souza in a key role. Delhi court sets new date to begin hearing arguments in Delhi riots conspiracy case
New Delhi: A Delhi court on Friday set July 2 as the new date to begin hearing arguments on charges in the Delhi riots case on the larger conspiracy. Police, through special public prosecutor Amit Prasad, told the court of additional sessions judge Lalit Kumar that it would take five hours daily for at least five days to conclude its arguments. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The court is set to hear the arguments afresh after the transfer of ASJ Sameer Bajpai, who was hearing the case earlier last month. Prasad submitted that he would take four to five hours daily for at least five days to conclude his arguments. The court also accepted his suggestion to begin the arguments after the summer vacation so that continuity is not disturbed. The special public prosecutors and counsel for the accused said that since the chargesheet contains over 17,000 pages and it would take considerable time, the arguments should be after summer vacation for the sake of continuity. Advocate Adit S Pujari, appearing for Natasha Narwal and Devangana Kalita, submitted that there is an order of Delhi High Court of Sept 2024 which has directed that the trial court will hear the arguments, but a final order is not to be passed till the disposal of the petition. Pujari also submitted that he would argue at the end, as his two petitions are pending before Delhi High Court. Advocate Rajat Kumar, appearing for Abdul Khalid Saifi, submitted that there is a consensus that other counsel will start arguments after submission by advocate Rajiv Mohan, counsel for Tahir Hussain. On June 2, the court sought the schedule of arguments of all prosecutors and advocates of the accused to expedite the arguments on charges. The court noted that the matter was scheduled for arguments on charges and the special public prosecutor informed the court about the prosecution and five accused persons completing their arguments on charge. Twenty people, including activists Sharjeel Imam, Khalid Saifi, and former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain, were booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and several provisions of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly being the "masterminds" of the Feb 2020 communal riots that left 53 people dead and more than 700 injured.

Delhi HC seeks police response to Tahir Hussain's bail plea
The Delhi high court on Monday sought the response of the Delhi Police to a bail plea filed by former councillor Tahir Hussain in a 2020 murder case connected to the northeast Delhi riots. Hussain is one of the accused in the murder case of Intelligence Bureau (IB) staffer Ankit Sharma during the riots. At the time of the incident, he was an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor. A bench of justice Neena Bansal Krishna issued notice to the Delhi Police and fixed July 17 as the next date of hearing. The Delhi Police, represented by advocate Dhruv Pande, accepted notice on behalf of the police. The former councillor approached the Delhi high court against a city court order dated March 12, rejecting his bail. In its 10-page order, a bench of judge Pulastya Pramachala opined that the failure of three public witnesses to identify Hussain did not wash away or mellow down the evidence of other witnesses, including public witnesses. 'Thus, I am not convinced with the plea of the applicant that there is such a material change in the circumstances, so as to favour the applicant and to mellow down the evidence against application is rejected,' judge Pramachala noted in his order. Hussain's petition in the high court painted a picture that the trial court disregarded the aspect of eight co-accused being released on bail and failed to consider the account of eyewitnesses who have absolved him from the prosecution's allegations. It went on to add that he has already spent almost five years in jail, and the three public witnesses categorically exonerated him stating that they did not see Hussain at the relevant time, even as the father of the deceased — the complainant on whose basis the FIR was filed — had failed to identify him. The petition further said that the prosecution had examined all public witnesses in the case. Sharma's body was found in a drain near his home in northeast Delhi's Chand Bagh on February 26, 2020, a day after he had gone missing after the riots broke out. Following a probe, the police charged Hussain under sections of murder, rioting, criminal conspiracy, dacoity, promoting religious enmity and the Arms Act. A charge sheet was filed in June 2020 and in March 2023, a city court framed charges against Hussain and 10 other people.
