An inside look at how the 157th Belmont Stakes will shape up: 1. Hill Road Jockey: Irad Ortiz Trainer: Chad Brown Current form: Was an unimpressive third in the Tampa Bay Derby. But he's a live long shot now after closing well to win the shorter Peter Pan at Aqueduct. Worth a wager: Chad Brown winning his first Belmont Stakes only minutes from his hometown makes for a feel-good story. But his stretch runner meets better and will be hard pressed to outkick the Derby/Preakness champs. Fifth. 2. Sovereignty Jockey: Junior Alvarado Trainer: Bill Mott Current form: Fast-closing second in the Florida Derby. No one will remember that after his magical run from 16 horses back to get up and win the Kentucky Derby over a sloppy surface. 4 Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty trains at the Saratoga Race Course on June 5, 2025 in preparation for Saturday's Belmont Stakes. Getty Images Worth a wager: He's back! Bill Mott decided to skip the Preakness (not a popular decision) so the five-week rest will be beneficial. And Junior Alvarado, $62,000 lighter after a whip-abuse fine, is back to ride as well. No matter. Putting him fourth. 3. Rodriguez Jockey: Mike Smith Trainer: Bob Baffert Current form: Finished nearly a dozen lengths behind Journalism in the San Felipe. Bob Baffert shipped him east and he won the Wood Memorial wire-to-wire. Worth a wager: Slowpoke Rodriguez turned on the speed and never looked back in the Wood. Missed the first two legs of the Triple Crown due to foot issues. Dances with Crudo early. Holds off the big boys under Mike Smith. Winner. 4 Rodriguez, training on Saratoga Race Course on June 5, 2025, will win Saturday's Belmont Stakes, Vic Cangialosi predicts. AP 4. Uncaged Jockey: Luis Saez Trainer: Todd Pletcher Current form: Made his stakes debut in the Peter Pan after winning two of three. It didn't go well. Reported home sixth of seven with no excuses. Worth a wager: Stretched to nine furlongs in the Peter Pan and didn't appreciate the additional yardage. Rider change to Luis Saez who won last year's edition on Dornoch. Mike Repole in the winners circle? Happens more often than not. But we will put him seventh. 5. Crudo Jockey: John Velazquez Trainer: Todd Pletcher 4 Crudo looks on from his Saratoga barn stall on June 5, 2025 before Saturday's Belmont Stakes. Jason Szenes / New York Post Current form: Loads off a pair of handy seven-length, gate-to-wire victories. The latest in the Sir Barton at Pimlico. Worth a wager: Figs don't match up well but Bobby Flay's colt will cook early, matching strides with Rodriguez. Will be very surprised if he and Johnny V are still around when they turn for home. A tired sixth. 6. Baeza Jockey: Flavien Prat Trainer: John Sheriffs Current form: Runner up, only 3/4 of a length behind Journalism in the Santa Anita Derby. Followed that up with a fast-closing third behind Sovereignty in the Kentucky Derby. Get the lowdown on the Best USA Sports Betting Sites and Apps Worth a wager: Has proven he can compete with the best 3-year-olds. Getting better as well. Ran from the back of the pack in the Derby but he's versatile and Flavien Prat may tap his speed and get the jump on the co-faves. Strong but second. 7. Journalism Jockey: Umberto Rispoli Trainer: Michael McCarthy Current form: Looked like a winner in the Run for the Roses but he was passed deep stretch by Sovereignty. Rebounded two weeks later to take the Preakness. Worth a wager: In a word, tough. Tough beat in the Derby then tougher splitting horses in the bumper-car stretch in the Preakness. Short rest to face rival Sovereignty. Beats him, but finishes third. 4 Preakness winner Journalism works out on Saratoga Race Course on June 5, 2025 in preparation for Saturday's Belmont Stakes. Getty Images 8. Heart of Honor Jockey: Saffie Osbourne Trainer: James Osbourne Current form: Narrowly defeated in the UAE Derby at Meydan. Made U.S. debut in the Preakness and finished a respectable fifth. Worth a wager: Didn't know what to expect. Had trouble loading the gate. Picked up the pieces at Pimlico and passed tired horses. Will be just as surprised if he finishes fifth here. Last of eight.

Blue Grass Stakes 2025 Odds, Picks And Horse Profiles On The Road To The Kentucky Derby

Racing at Keeneland in Kentucky and the Blue Grass Stakes 2025 race rescheduled for Tuesday, April ... More 8, 2025. (AP Photo/Garry Jones) The horses are approaching the starting gate for the rescheduled Blue Grass Stakes 2025 Road to the Kentucky Derby race. Weather and heavy rain delayed the opening of the Keeneland meet along with the final major championship series prep race for 3-year-olds on the Kentucky Derby Trail. The Tuesday, April 8 Blue Grass Stakes provides the final opportunity for horses to received qualifying points (100-50-25-15-10) for a top-5 finish and earn their way into the May 3 Kentucky Derby and the Run for the Roses at Churchill Downs. FanDuel Racing has a Blue Grass Stakes preview with horse profiles of the top contenders in the field of seven for the 1 1/8 mile race at Keeneland Race Course in Kentucky. You can watch and wager on the $1.25 million Blue Grass Stakes on FanDuel Racing and FanDuelTV with post time for Race 10 at 5:52 p.m. ET. FanDuel Racing provides promotions, tips and added content for horse racing and the biggest races to help guide you to the winners circle. They provide horse profiles below. Along with FanDuel Racing, I also turned to the experts at Horse Racing Nation and it's Super Screener big race analysis for their picks and insight on the Blue Grass Stakes. . Super Screener notes that Chancer McPatrick will be sitting well off the pace and will have ground to make up in the shorter stretch at Keeneland. But he has stamina-rich breeding and the best turn of foot in the field having already won a pair of Grade 1 races as a 2-year-old last fall. He should be rolling fastest towards the wire with Flavien Pratt riding for trainer Chad Brown. A big move in his Form Cycle Analysis is projected having finished 2nd in the Tampa Bay Derby in his first race of the year off a layoff. That race was won by Owen Almighty, who's in this field at the Blue Grass but got a perfect trip on the front end to win the Tampa Bay Derby. Todd Pletcher-trained River Thames has moved forward in each race and now makes his fourth start after finishing a very close 2nd in the Fountain of Youth behind Sovereignty. Top jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. now takes over and while he has a shot in this race, his breeding suggests he's more of a sprinter and this is about a maximum distance for success and not a Kentucky Derby win contender. Since FanDuel became an official partner of the Kentucky Derby three years ago, America's biggest race has had between $179 million and $210 million wagered on the Kentucky Derby. Follow the remaining races on the Road to the Kentucky Derby with the points leaderboard changing following this final major prep race as the field of horses becoming finalized for the Run for the Roses on May 3. You can bet on it.
