Raichur: The women police apprehended an individual on Aug 3, concerning the sexual assault of a minor girl whom he married. According to SP G Puttamadaiah, the police took Tatappa, 22, son of Narasayya from Shaktinagar, into custody. The women police filed a case against 10 individuals, including Tatappa, on July 21, following a complaint from Ravikumar, the panchayat development officer of Devasugur, who verified the documents related to the girl's age. Taking the matter seriously, the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights directed the Yadgir police to urgently detain the father-in-law who married the minor. The FIR indicates that accused No.2 to 10 — Gaddemma, Sumangala, Geetha, Anjaneyya, Gaddeppa, Renuka, Sadanand, Mahadevi, and Ramanagouda — conducted the marriage of Tatappa with the minor girl on April 18, at Shaktinagar, fully aware that she was underage. Additionally, the FIR noted, citing the victim's testimony, that Tatappa sexually assaulted her twice at his residence, despite being aware of her minor status. The police initiated a case under sections 9 and 10 of the Prevention of Child Marriages Act, Sections 64 r/w 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita 2023, and Sections 6 and 17 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso) 2012. In his comments on the arrest, Commission member Shashidhar Kosambe stated: "To promote the education of the minor, prompt action should be taken under the applicable schemes, and a report should be sent to the commission concerning this matter."

Raichur Women Police have arrested a man in connection with sexual assault on a minor girl whom he had married in Raichur, Karnataka on August 3. According to Superintendent of Police G. Puttamadaiah, police arrested Tatappa, the 22-year-old son of Narasayya of Shaktinagar. The women police had registered a case against 10 persons, including Tatappa, on July 21, following a complaint by Gram Panchayat Development Officer of Deosugur, Ravikumar, who had checked the girl's age-related documents. According to the FIR, accused No. 2 to 10 — Gaddemma, Sumangala, Geetha, Anjaneyya, Gaddeppa, Renuka, Sadanand, Mahadevi, and Ramanagouda — performed the marriage of Tatappa with the girl on April 18, at Shaktinagar, despite knowing that she was underage. The FIR further stated, quoting the victim's statement, that Tatappa committed sexual assault on her twice at his house, despite knowing that she was a minor. The police registered a case under Sections 9 and 10 of the Prevention of Child Marriages Act, Sections 64 r/w 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita 2023, and Sections 6 and 17 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) 2012.

The Raichur Police on Thursday registered an FIR against 10 people in connection with a case of child marriage and sexual assault on a minor girl. The FIR, following a complaint lodged by Panchayat Development Officer of Deosugur in Raichur district Ravi Kumar, states that accused No 2 to 10, Gaddemma, Sumangala, Geetha, Anjaneyya, Gaddeppa, Renuka, Sadanand, Mahadevi and Ramanagouda, performed the marriage of Tatappa, who is accused No 1, with the victim, a minor girl, on April 18, 2025, at Shaktinagar, despite knowing that she is underaged. The FIR quoted the victim as saying that the accused Tatappa committed sexual assault on her twice at his house, once on the night of the marriage and thereafter one month later, despite knowing that she is a minor. The FIR has been registered under Sections 9 and 10 of the Prevention of Child Marriages Act, Sections 64 r/w 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita 2023 and Sections 6 and 17 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) 2012. Further investigation is under way.
