The 96 cr plan to transform Mumbai's Dharavi into highrises, open spaces, and transit hub Team TOI Plus TNN May 30, 2025, 17:00 IST After existing over a century, Dharavi is set to undergo redevelopment which as per the state's plan will transform it into a residential and business hub with open spaces and transit facilities. In its latest presentation, the Maharashtra government described the redevelopment of Mumbai's biggest sprawl as a project for gentrification and envisages a 'green spine' for the 2.5 sq km precinct which will include a central park, waterfront and museum. A multi-modal transit hub and mixed-use neighbourhoods supporting traditional livelihoods of artisans and homes in highrises are also part of the blueprint to transform Dharavi . The total cost of rehabilitation of existing residents has been estimated at Rs 95,790 crore. The sale component will be spread over 120 acres.

Student spends two weeks in jail for social media post: HC tells cops you are 'bent upon ruining the girl's life' Team TOI Plus TNN Updated: May 28, 2025, 19:14 IST IST A student from Jammu and Kashmir was arrested and jailed for over two weeks over the resharing of a post on Instagram. While granting her bail, the Bombay high court criticised the police for arrested. On May 7, as tensions rose between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, a 19-year-old student of Sinhagad Academy of Engineering near Pune shared an Instagram post posted by another account. After receiving a flood of threats and abuse, she deleted the post within two hours, acknowledged her mistake and apologised. On May 9, the college issued a rustication letter to the student who is in the fourth semester. The college claimed that she had brought disrepute to the institution and claimed she held 'anti-national sentiments' and posed 'a risk' to the campus and society.

The 184-metre-long container vessel MSC ELSA 3 had set out from the Vizhinjam port near Thiruvananthapuram on May 23 for Kochi, and was scheduled to dock there on May 24. However, on the afternoon of May 24 - around 38 nautical miles from its destination - the Liberian cargo ship carrying 643 containers began sending distress signals. The Indian Coast Guard were able to rescue 21 crew members on May 24 itself, and when the vessel started capsizing, Indian Navy vessel INS Sujatha rescued the three remaining senior crew who had stayed behind.
