Inno Morolong ironically honoured at GBV awards – ‘It's a victory for every woman'
She is no stranger to controversial headlines. In 2022, she was accused of brutally assaulting a friend in a club. The following year, a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) was opened against her by a fellow club hostess, Olwethu Magudumana - the niece of Dr Nandipha Magudumana's ex-husband, Dr Mkhuseli Magudumana. All the while, she was embroiled in a feud with her former friend, Tebogo Thobejane, whom she later accused of sleeping with the president in 2023. The Diamonds and Dolls reality TV star didn't stop at that. Earlier this year, Inno Morolong was sentenced to house arrest for 12 months of correctional sentence included 16 hours of unpaid community service, restrictions on leaving the jurisdiction of her residence, and mandated participation in alcohol and drug abuse programs for the duration of her sentence. Morolong was recognised for her bravery, resilience, and unwavering advocacy in the fight against gender-based violence. As a survivor herself, she's hailed for leveraging her platform to raise awareness, empower women, and support initiatives aimed at bringing justice to victims and survivors across the country. 'Being recognised tonight is not just a personal honour—it's a victory for every woman who has survived violence and found the courage to keep going,' said Morolong during her heartfelt acceptance speech. 'I stand here on behalf of all those still fighting to be heard, healed, and free. We are not alone.' Tebogo Thobejane pleas for privacy as ex-boyfriend's attempted murder bail hearing postponed
It was yet another brief appearance at the Alexandra Magistrates' Court on Monday, 19 May. Appearing for the second time in the case of his alleged plot to murder socialite and actress Tebogo Thobejane, Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala stood bold in an all-black outfit. Matlala was arrested on 14 May in Midrand by a crime intelligence unit after a two-year-long investigation into an incident that took place at a Sandton club. In October 2023, Tebogo was outside Saints Champagne Lounge with her friend and her driver when three hit-men fired multiple shots at them, leaving her unscathed but her friend wheelchair-bound. Two of the hitmen, Musa Kekana and Floyd Mabusela, were then arrested about a year later, marking a breakthrough in the case. In a recent statement by Tebogo, she laments how difficult the past two years have been. 'One of the hardest parts of this entire experience has been facing the people who were with me that night - the ones who were hurt alongside me. I've had to find the strength to express my sorrow to their families, and to live with the pain that they were affected because of a situation tied to me. It's something that stays with me everyday.' She adds that she's on a journey of healing and is thankful for the grace and support she's received. 'Despite everything, I remain incredibly grateful to the family for showing me grace, compassion and not placing blame where there is already so much hurt. I will continue to pray for them and support their healing too.' More than anything, she's hopeful that justice will prevail. Meanwhile, the man behind it all is set to remain in police custody until his formal bail hearing set to sit on 30 May. Both the state and Matlala's attorneys agreed upon this in the last appearance due to electricity problems. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirms the postponement. 'The Alexandra Magistrates' Court has postponed Vusimuzi Matlala's (49) bail application to 30 May 2025, for a formal bail hearing, following an agreement between both parties due to the unavailability of electricity.' The NPA concluded by saying that the accused will remain in custody pending his formal bail application. It was also revealed that Matlala would be represented by a new legal team. Speaking to Drum on the sidelines, Matlala's previous attorney advocate Cyril Mlotshwa confirmed that Matlala's family have appointed a new instructing attorney. 'We are from outside the jurisdiction (KZN) so we are not familiar with these surroundings, so it makes sense.'

Wife of attempted murder accused Vusi Matlala released on R20,000 bail in Tebogo Thobejane case; husband remains in custody
The fourth suspect in the alleged murder case has been granted bail at the Alexandra Magistrates Court. Tsakani, wife to business tycoon Vusi Matlala, was arrested on Thursday, 29 May, as an accomplice to the murder plot of socialite and actress, Tebogo Thobejane. The two are charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, fraud, and attempt to defeat the ends of justice, alongside Musa Kekana (35) and Tiego Floyd Mabusela (47), who are believed to have been the hitmen hired. In today's court proceedings, Matlala's lawyers prioritised the release of Tsakani, leaving Vusimuzi behind bars to await his next court appearance scheduled for Friday, 11 July at the Johannesburg High Court for an indictment. 'I never thought I'd have to live in fear after surviving an attempt on my life. But here I am, shaking because the very people who plotted to kill me may be granted bail on Tuesday. A husband and wife, both involved in a conspiracy to have me murdered, are among the accused. The woman, someone I once knew, used her power and her money to orchestrate bullying campaigns online, to break me down emotionally, and ultimately to silence me. 'They paid girls to harass me online. They tried to kill me. And now they may walk free,' she adds. Tebogo was speaking out on the back end of the justice system's consistent failure to protect victims. She pointed out that protection is minimal for victims as corruption lurks in courtrooms, and survivors are expected to move on while their abusers roam free. The court imposed strict conditions on her, including that: she hand over her passport; does not leave Gauteng; and does not make contact with the Phoko Funeral Parlour or any family member of the co-accused . The case was postponed to July 11 for a transfer to the high court. According to the provisional charge sheet, Vusi Matlala and alleged hitmen Tiego Floyd Mabusela and Musa Kekana face charges related to conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder. Thobejane's car was shot at by gunmen in October 2023 in Sandton. She escaped injury but a friend who was with her was badly wounded and was in hospital for more than a month. TimesLIVE
