Special kids shine on Independence Day stage in Hyderabad
NIZAMABAD : Isn't it true that recognising and respecting differences in others and treating everyone equally makes the world a better place? Accepting disabilities with dignity, organisers of Independence Day in Nizamabad provide a platform for mentally challenged students to showcase their talent for the first time in the state's history. An impressive 75 mentally challenged students take part in a cultural programme, dancing to the song Jai Ho and captivating the audience. S Niranjan, Chairman of the Telangana BC Commission, attends the event as chief guest and appreciates the students' outstanding performance. District Collector T Vinay Krishna Reddy and Police Commissioner P Sai Chaitanya are also present, congratulating the students from the school run by Sneha Society for Rural Reconstruction (SNESOR). The principals of the Mentally Disabled School, S Joyti and Rajeshwari, take an active role in the programme. The management of SNESOR receives a certificate of appreciation and a memento for the performance. Representatives of SNESOR say that mentally disabled individuals often face discrimination and judgement based only on appearance. They emphasise that under the society's guidance, these students acquire valuable skills. This event marks a significant milestone for the Sneha Society, giving students the honour of publicly showcasing their dance skills during Independence Day celebrations. District Collector Vinay Krishna Reddy facilitates this opportunity.

Dattareya's life is an inspiration for everyone
Hyderabad: In recognition of his lifelong commitment to public service and values, former Governor of Haryana Bandaru Dattatreya was honoured with the Mahakali Mahesh Goud Bonala Award 2025 on Thursday. The award was presented by the Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Banda Prakash, who praised Dattatreya's integrity and dedication to society. The award ceremony was held at Ravindra Bharathi amidst cultural events which are taken up during the grand Bonalu festivals. The event was graced by the presence of former Chairman of the Telangana BC Commission Dr. Vakulabharanam Krishnamohan Rao, who presided over the function. Expressing his gratitude, Dattatreya shared that the recognition holds personal meaning as he hails from the Old City of Hyderabad. He emphasized, 'Bonalu celebrates feminine divinity and reflects the deep respects for women in Telangana culture. 'Honoring women has always been my belief, and serving people remains my greatest reward'. MLC D Sravan acknowledged the development work led by Mahakali Mahesh towards the restoration of Sri Simhavahini temple. BC Commission Chairman Gopisetty Niranjan recalled the rich cultural legacy of Bonalu in the Old City and appreciated the contribution of Mahakali Mahesh, K Prakash, Venkat Swamy, and Lingam Munnagu. Former Minister V Srinivas Goud also praised Dattatreya's dedicated service to society. Department of Language and Culture Director Mangodi Harikrishna, along with Nisha Kranti, Daivagna Sharma, Maruti Yadav, and Raghavender Gopisetty, also participated in the program. Awards were presented to outstanding journalists and public servants as part of the celebrations.

Telangana BC Commission to urge Centre to include 40 castes in Central OBC list
HYDERABAD The Telangana BC Commission has decided to urge the Central government to take swift action regarding the inclusion of 40 castes in the Central list of Other Backward Classes (OBC) list. A review meeting was held at the BC Commission's office at Khairtabad, where various issues, including the collection of government employees' data, were discussed. The commission also decided to hold a review meeting with secretaries of departments that failed to submit the information within the deadline. Besides, the commission reviewed the arrangements for a public hearing scheduled for June 9, 10, and 11, regarding the 26 omitted castes. To submit a report to the Supreme Court, the commission decided to request the government to provide information from the Social Education Employment Economic Political Caste (SEEEPC) Survey such as details on population, socio-economic, and educational backwardness of these castes. The panel also reviewed a report submitted by the Nizamabad Collector regarding the social boycott of BCs in Talla Rampur village and appreciated the district administration's efforts in handling the matter. The meeting was attended by Chairman G. Niranjan, members Rapolu Jayaprakash, Thirumalgiri Surender, Rangu Bala Lakshmi, and Bala Maya Devi, along with Member Secretary Srinivasa Rao, Deputy Director Satish Kumar, and Special Officer Lakshminarayana.

BC panel to hold 3-day public hearings from June 9
Hyderabad: The Telangana BC Commission has decided to conduct public hearings on June 9, 10, and 11 over re-inclusion of 26 castes that were omitted from the Backward Classes (BCs) list following the formation of Telangana in 2014. The commission will accept representations and objections on this matter. A notification to this effect will be issued on May 15. Additionally, representations and objections could be submitted in person or by post at the commission's office between May 31 and June 13. In response to the central govt's requirement that the term 'DNT Caste' (denotified tribes) be included on caste certificates for applying to the SEED Scheme , the commission has decided to evaluate the issuance of DNT certificates and would recommend procedures to the would also gather necessary information from the relevant authorities for this purpose. The BC Commission, which is in the process of collecting details about BC employees working in various govt departments, would hold a meeting with the additional secretaries of those departments on May 19. Additionally, in response to a representation made by BC employees at Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University regarding perceived injustices in the preparation of the seniority list, the commission has decided to seek a report from the university's vice-chancellor concerning the issue.
