Telangana BC Commission to urge Centre to include 40 castes in Central OBC list

HYDERABAD The Telangana BC Commission has decided to urge the Central government to take swift action regarding the inclusion of 40 castes in the Central list of Other Backward Classes (OBC) list. A review meeting was held at the BC Commission's office at Khairtabad, where various issues, including the collection of government employees' data, were discussed. The commission also decided to hold a review meeting with secretaries of departments that failed to submit the information within the deadline. Besides, the commission reviewed the arrangements for a public hearing scheduled for June 9, 10, and 11, regarding the 26 omitted castes. To submit a report to the Supreme Court, the commission decided to request the government to provide information from the Social Education Employment Economic Political Caste (SEEEPC) Survey such as details on population, socio-economic, and educational backwardness of these castes. The panel also reviewed a report submitted by the Nizamabad Collector regarding the social boycott of BCs in Talla Rampur village and appreciated the district administration's efforts in handling the matter. The meeting was attended by Chairman G. Niranjan, members Rapolu Jayaprakash, Thirumalgiri Surender, Rangu Bala Lakshmi, and Bala Maya Devi, along with Member Secretary Srinivasa Rao, Deputy Director Satish Kumar, and Special Officer Lakshminarayana.

Hyderabad: The Telangana BC Commission has decided to conduct public hearings on June 9, 10, and 11 over re-inclusion of 26 castes that were omitted from the Backward Classes (BCs) list following the formation of Telangana in 2014. The commission will accept representations and objections on this matter. A notification to this effect will be issued on May 15. Additionally, representations and objections could be submitted in person or by post at the commission's office between May 31 and June 13. In response to the central govt's requirement that the term 'DNT Caste' (denotified tribes) be included on caste certificates for applying to the SEED Scheme , the commission has decided to evaluate the issuance of DNT certificates and would recommend procedures to the would also gather necessary information from the relevant authorities for this purpose. The BC Commission, which is in the process of collecting details about BC employees working in various govt departments, would hold a meeting with the additional secretaries of those departments on May 19. Additionally, in response to a representation made by BC employees at Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University regarding perceived injustices in the preparation of the seniority list, the commission has decided to seek a report from the university's vice-chancellor concerning the issue.

Hyderabad: Stating that the entire process of caste survey done by Telangana government was done scientifically, the Telangana BC Commission on Thursday urged the Centre to consider the Telangana State as a special case and take steps to enact the bills made in the Telangana State and include them in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution. In a press conference here, BC Commission Chairman G Niranjan, members Rapolu Jaiprakash and Tirumalagiri Surender said everyone welcomes the decision of the Union Cabinet to conduct a census of BC castes along with the population census. A scientific survey of BC castes was conducted in the state of Telangana and it was confirmed that 56.36 per cent of the total population is BC. Accordingly, two bills were passed in the Assembly on March 17, finalising 42 per cent reservation for BCs in political, educational and employment fields. Currently, the bills are awaiting the approval of the Central Government to become law. The Commission said that Gram Panchayat elections and MPTC and ZPTC elections have not been held since January 2024 with the intention of implementing 42 per cent reservations in local body elections. In this context, a survey of 1,12,15,134 families was conducted across the state by approximately 1,03,889 enumerators and supervisors. These enumerators went door to door and collected information and entered it through data entry. The BC Commission requested the State Government also to take the initiative in this matter and meet the Prime Minister along with all parties and take steps to convince him.

1 2 Hyderabad: Chairperson of the Telangana BC Commission , G Niranjan, on Thursday urged the Union govt to treat Telangana as a special case and enact the BC reservation bill without waiting for the general census . Speaking at a press conference, Niranjan emphasised the need to include the bill in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution. He also called on the state govt to take proactive steps by engaging with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other political leaders to push for its approval. Niranjan highlighted a state-wide survey conducted with the participation of 1,03,889 enumerators and supervisors, covering 1,12,15,134 families. "This door-to-door data collection was carried out scientifically, providing a robust basis for the Centre to consider the BC reservation bills," he stated. On March 17, the Telangana Assembly passed two bills proposing a 42% reservation for BCs across political, educational, and employment sectors. These bills now await the Central government's approval to become law.
