Poste Italiane Now Runs Telecom Italia, and Deals Could Follow
After a decade under French control, Telecom Italia SpA now has an Italian state-backed group as its top investor — and it's one that wants to foster mergers and acquisitions in the telecoms market. Postal service Poste Italiane SpA this weekend became the phone company's biggest shareholder with a holding of nearly 25%, after purchasing the majority of a stake held by French media conglomerate Vivendi SE. Poste says the deal will support industry consolidation.

Italy's Poste Raises Telecom Italia Stake to Nearly 25%
Italy's state-run postal service raised its stake in Telecom Italia SpA to almost 25%, overtaking Vivendi SE as the phone carrier's biggest investor. Poste Italiane, which has owned about 10% of Telecom Italia, purchased an additional holding of 15% from Vivendi for €684 million, according to a statement. The deal allows Poste to stay below a threshold that would trigger a mandatory takeover offer under Italian regulations.

Poste Aims to Raise Telecom Italia Stake to Nearly 25%
Italy's state-run postal service is planning to raise its stake in Telecom Italia SpA to nearly 25% in a bid to become the phone carrier's largest investor, replacing French conglomerate Vivendi SE, according to people familiar with the matter. Poste Italiane SpA, which currently owns about 10% of Telecom Italia, aims to buy an additional holding of as much as 15% from Vivendi, the people said. Vivendi may retain a small stake in Telecom Italia after any deal, according to the people, who asked not to be identified as the matter is private.

Telecom Italia in Talks to Amend Loan Facility, Messaggero Says
Telecom Italia SpA is in negotiations with a group of lenders over the amendment of a loan facility of as much as €3 billion ($3.25 billion), newspaper Il Messaggero reported on Sunday. The Italian carrier has mandated Credit Agricole, Intesa Sanpaolo, and UniCredit as global coordinators and bookrunners to help manage amendments to a €4 billion revolving credit facility maturing in 2026, Il Messaggero said, citing bank documents. The company aims to reduce the RCF to €3 billion, reprice it and extend it to 2030, according to the newspaper.

Vivendi Cuts Telecom Italia Stake, Starting Long-Planned Exit
France's Vivendi SE cut its stake in Telecom Italia SpA, marking the beginning of a long-planned exit. The French conglomerate, controlled by the billionaire Bolloré family, reduced its holding of Telecom Italia ordinary shares to about 18%, according to a late statement Friday. It previously held 24% as of Sept. 30, according to the Italian carrier's website.
