LR Discovery celebrates 35 years with Tempest Edition

Land Rover's Discovery line-up is refreshed for 2025. The headline act is the new Tempest Edition, the most upmarket Discovery offered yet. Thirty-five years in the making, the Tempest brings a mix of luxury design, premium materials, and rugged versatility. Tempest was the codename for the second-generation Discovery's development programme in 1998. Now revived for this new edition, it signals a move upmarket with a new identity. A distinguishing feature is the Petra Copper Gloss roof. There is also copper detailing on the grille, wing vents, lower bumper inserts and Discovery badging. The 22-inch alloy wheels feature matching copper-tinted lacquer. Narvik Gloss Black is available as a roof colour option for those wanting a stealthier look. The cabin features Ebony Windsor leather upholstery, Shadow Aluminium trim, and Tempest badging on the puddle lamps, B-pillars, and treadplates. This vehicle takes aim at active families who don't want to compromise on comfort or capability. Ben Montgomery, General Manager of Jaguar Land Rover New Zealand, said the Tempest edition is ideal for Kiwis. He said: 'It's luxurious, beautifully finished, and ready for anything. It's a vehicle that really speaks to the way Kiwi families live: active, adventurous and always on the go.' Beyond the Tempest, the full Discovery range has been updated to include three models for the New Zealand market: D250 Dynamic SE – $148,900 D350 Dynamic HSE – $164,900 D350 Tempest Edition – $184,900 All variants now benefit from enhanced specification and equipment levels. In line with this, Land Rover has introduced three new accessory packs. The Beach Days pack includes a collapsible boot organiser, tailgate and side window sunshades, all-weather mats, and a roof rack for kayaks and surfboards. For longer sorties, the Road Trip pack adds seatback organisers, a centre armrest cooler, an electric cool bag, roof cross bars and a roof box. All are designed to keep journeys calm and clutter-free. And thirdly, the Snow Days pack ensures winter-ready versatility, with ski/snowboard carriers, rubber loadspace protection, mudflaps, and a snow traction system. These join existing favourites like the For Dogs pack – featuring a portable rinse system, pet carrier, water bowl and quilted boot liner. There's also the Biking Adventures pack with rubber floor mats, side steps, and both roof- and tow-mounted bike carriers. Discovery's off-road credentials remain and all models offer a 3500kg braked towing capacity. Systems like Terrain Response 2, Advanced Tow Assist, and All Terrain Progress Control ensure drivers can tackle tricky situations with confidence. And with a wading depth of up to 900mm, rivers and flooded roads should not prove an obstacle. Joelle Taylor, Head of Discovery Strategy, Product and Services said: 'Discovery is the perfect choice for those who enjoy spontaneous adventures with the whole family. With its vast, versatile, seven-seat interior and exceptional capability, I know we will reach our destination in comfort and with everything we need.'

Land Rover has lightly updated the Discovery and unveiled two new special editions

Land Rover has lightly updated the Discovery and unveiled two new special editions Tempest and Gemini Editions arrive to remind us that the Disco 5 is still on sale Skip 16 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Turn on Javascript to see all the available pictures. 1 / 16 The Land Rover Discovery 5 was first unveiled just moments after the extinction of the dinosaurs, and yet it remains on sale today. In fact, Land Rover has just updated it once again and launched a couple of special editions, because not everybody wants a Defender… The Discovery Tempest is a new top-of-the-range model with a matte protective film over the paint and contrasting 'Petra Copper Gloss' roof and accents. The same blingy colour also adorns the 22in diamond-turned wheels, while inside there's special badging, aluminium detailing and loads of black leather. The Gemini also delves into the Disco archives for its title, because it was once the codename given to the 2.5-litre Tdi diesel engine in the original 1989 Discovery 1. The new special edition is apparently available in six different exterior colours, but the 'Sedona Red' option is unique to the Gemini. A contrast black roof is standard, as are 21in silver wheels and the obligatory badging. On the inside we're told that it's prepped for 'family adventures' with a fridge between the front seats, 'media holders' for rear seat passengers and three-zone climate control. All Discos are now only available with a mild hybrid 3.0-litre straight-six diesel that's badged D350 and makes 345bhp and 516lb ft of torque. Along with these new specials, the standard S, Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE and Metropolitan Edition cars get enhanced spec. Discovery prices now kick off at £64,810 in the UK, with the Gemini costing £72,505 before options and the flagship Tempest a hefty £83,720. Land Rover also has a range of new accessory packs, including a Beach Days pack with rubber floor mats, sunshades, a roof rack and a collapsible organiser for the boot. The Road Trip pack adds organisers to the backs of the front seats, a roof box on top and wind deflectors on the windows, while the Snow Days pack allows you to carry skis up top and adds a 'snow traction system' for when things get really wintery.
