Denied a Final Goodbye Adnan recently appeared on Aap Ki Adalat with Rajat Sharma, where he opened up about a deeply personal moment. When asked if he had tried visiting Pakistan after becoming an Indian citizen in 2016, Adnan revealed he had made the attempt in October 2024, after his mother unexpectedly passed away. He shared that her death came as a shock, as she had no known health issues. Adnan added that Indian authorities were compassionate and quickly understood the urgency of the situation. After receiving clearance from Indian authorities, Sami applied for a visa to Pakistan to attend his mother's funeral. However, his request was denied despite explaining the reason for his visit. As a result, he was unable to travel and had to witness his mother's final rites through a video call on WhatsApp. Not about money, but growth In the same interview, the singer addressed the common claim that he chose Indian citizenship for financial gain. He clarified that money was never a motivating factor, as he came from a well-off family and never faced financial struggles. Instead, he emphasized that his decision was driven by personal growth and artistic fulfillment. Adnan said he left behind property worth crores in Pakistan to start afresh in India, where he felt a stronger connection with his audience and saw more opportunities to grow as an artist. Singer Adnan Sami has shared that a few citizens of Pakistan recently told him that he left the country 'in good time', adding that they also want to change their citizenship. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Adnan also said that they said they hate the Pakistani Army as it has destroyed their country. Adnan was earlier a Pakistani citizen who moved to India years ago. He is an Indian national now. Adnan tweeted, "Met some very sweet Pakistani boys while walking on the beautiful streets of Baku, Azerbaijan…They said, 'Sir, you are very lucky.. You left Pakistan in good time.. We also want to change our citizenship…WE HATE OUR ARMY…They have destroyed our country!!' I replied, 'I knew this long ago!'" Adnan, who was born in London, was granted Indian citizenship in December 2015. Recently, Adnan slammed former information and broadcasting minister of Pakistan, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, after he raised questions about the singer's citizenship. This was after the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Terrorists struck Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 persons, most of them tourists, were killed. The Centre had said all Pakistani nationals in India must leave the country before their visas expire. Fawad had shared a post on X by an Indian journalist about the Centre's decision and captioned it, "What about Adnan Sami?" Adnan had said, "Who's going to tell this illiterate idiot!!" Adnan, known for songs such as Kabhi To Nazar Milao, Tera Chehra, Lift Kara De and Bhar Do Jholi, first arrived in India on March 13, 2001, on a visitor's visa with a validity of one year, which was issued by the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. His visa was extended from time to time. His Pakistani passport, issued on May 27, 2010, expired on May 26, 2015, and his passport was not renewed by the Pakistan government, which led him to approach the Indian government with the request to legalise his stay in India on humanitarian grounds.

Singer Adnan Sami recently hit back after someone questioned his Indian citizenship. It was former Pakistani minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain who called Adnan Pakistani indirectly and questioned whether the singer would also go back to Pakistan after India began sending back Pakistani nationals as a result of a terror attack in the Pahalgam region of Kashmir. The war of words began on X, formerly Twitter, after Hussain referred to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's decision to ensure the prompt return of Pakistanis from India by 27 April. A post highlighting the direction read: '#BREAKING: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday called up the Chief Ministers of all the states and asked them to ensure that no Pakistani stays in India beyond the deadline set for leaving the country. All Pakistanis to be shunted out of India.' Reacting to the development, Fawad wrote, 'What about Adnan Sami?' Responding to him, the Tera Chehra singer posted, 'Who's going to tell this illiterate idiot!!' Adnan Sami reacts to Chaudhry Fawad Hussain's post. After Fawad further linked Sami to Lahore, the singer blasted, 'My roots are from Peshawar- Not Lahore!! To think that you were Minister of (Mis) Information and have no knowledge about any information! (sic)' Following this, a user claiming to be from Pakistan further questioned Adnan Sami regarding his culture. (sic)' Adnan Sami was born in England to Pakistani parents. He obtained Indian citizenship in 2016. He continues to reside in Mumbai with his family. It took him 18 years to obtain his Indian citizenship. He previously said that he was stateless for a year and a half. He had said that he felt threatened in Pakistan. Tuesday witnessed one of the deadliest terror attacks in Kashmir since the Pulwama strike in 2019. 26 people were killed after gunmen attacked tourists in Pahalgam. Reacting to the incident, Adnan Sami had posted: 'My heart shatters into a million pieces as I grapple with the devastating news & chilling visuals of the Pahalgam attack. A land so divinely beautiful, blessed with majestic mountains and serene valleys, has been desecrated by the brutal hands of hatred & senseless political agendas.
