Qatar is gearing up for a grand musical celebration as the highly anticipated World Music Festival 2025 is all set to take place on July 3 and 4 at the Aspire Ladies Hall in Doha.
The two-day extravaganza, presented by Qatar Calendar and organised by MirchiOne 89.6 FM and Qabayan 94.3 FM, promises to bring together an exceptional lineup of global artistes in a celebration of diversity, culture, and unity through music.
Details of the festival were officially unveiled at a press conference held on Wednesday at the Steigenberger Hotel Doha, where members of the media and key stakeholders gathered to hear from the organisers and artistes themselves.
The highlight of the press conference was the presence of none other than Padmashree Adnan Sami, the acclaimed singer, composer, and performer, who will headline Day 2 of the festival on July 4.
Adnan Sami, often referred to as the 'Sultan of Music,' expressed his excitement about performing in Doha once again.
Addressing the media, he said, 'Doha holds a very special place in my heart. The love and warmth I've received here have been overwhelming. I'm looking forward to sharing an unforgettable evening of music with all of you.'
His heartfelt remarks were met with enthusiastic applause, further heightening anticipation for his upcoming performance.
Known for his timeless classics such as 'Kabhi Toh Nazar Milao,' 'Lift Karade,' 'Tera Chehra,' and 'Sun Zara,' Sami's concert is expected to draw fans of all ages from across Qatar's diverse communities.
He also hinted at including new arrangements and surprises in his setlist, promising a magical and soulful musical journey.
Day 1 of the festival today will feature performances by the internationally renowned Filipino band December Avenue, whose emotionally rich songs have captivated millions of fans across the world. The band — comprising Zel Bautista, Gelo Cruz, Jet Danao, Jem Manuel, and Carissa Ramos — will be joined by Filipino rap icon Gloc-9, bringing a dynamic blend of melody and lyricism to the opening night.
The festival is being powered by iPay, Vodafone's cutting-edge e-wallet solution, and driven by GWM, presented by Teyseer Motors.
The organisers emphasised that the World Music Festival 2025 is not just a concert, but a celebration of multiculturalism, shared heritage, and the power of music to bring people together. Get to Know the Men Behind the Mic In an exclusive interview with Qatar Tribune, MYK opened up about their humble beginnings, the spark that brought them together, and the dreams that continue to fuel their journey. From personal stories to backstage wins, the interview sheds light on what drives their passion for music. Born from Competition, Fueled by Chemistry Before they became a trio, Marlon, Yousef, and Kelvin were competitors in a 2023 singing contest in Qatar. But instead of rivalry, what emerged was a rare blend of musical synergy and onstage magic. 'People saw a natural chemistry between us when we were invited to co-host the next season,' they shared. 'That's when MYK was born!' The group reflected on their individual journeys: 'We took different paths to get to Qatar, but we were all driven by the same goal – to seek better job opportunities abroad. As they say, the grass is greener overseas, and Qatar offers a promising environment for personal and professional growth.' 'Each of us brings a unique vocal texture and style to the group, and while we're currently focused on vocals, we complement each other well on stage,' they shared. Marlon, from Batangas, is dubbed the RNB and Balladeer Prince of Doha and also works as a gym instructor. He often performs his own renditions, such as 'Babalik Ka Rin' and 'Please Don't Ask Me' alongside Maestro Dexter Tumang. Kelvin, from Pampanga, is the group's charming spirit, known for his spontaneous humor and strong vocal leads. His humorous moments, often captured in viral reels, give fans a good laugh. Yousef, from Misamis Occidental, balances his career as a jewelry advisor by day and a music artist by night. In 2022, he joined the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in California, USA, representing Qatar and gaining international recognition. He later won the first season of Qatar's Royal Clash competition. The Big Break On July 11, 2025, MYK made their biggest splash yet – opening the 'Sarili Nating Mundo' concert for Filipino icons KZ Tandingan and TJ Monterde at the Qatar National Convention Centre. Their 30-minute pre-show set didn't just warm up the crowd – it ignited it. Their performance was a highlight of the night as they delivered OPM with a punch of soul, sincerity, and stage presence as seasoned pros. From their cover of Beyoncé's 'Listen' to original Filipino love songs, MYK delivered powerhouse vocals, emotional depth, and undeniable chemistry. 'It was our first major performance as MYK and being given that platform meant a lot to us. Despite the jitters, everything clicked once we hit the stage. The audience's applause made all the hard work and rehearsals worth it,' the group recalled. From Covers to Originals Starting with cover songs – from OPM classics to international hits – MYK has carved a musical niche rooted in emotional storytelling and community connection. 'We naturally gravitated toward genres like pop and ballad, which we all love,' they shared. But now, the trio is stepping into uncharted territory with original music. 'As OFWs, we draw inspiration from shared experiences – stories of hope, dreams, friendship, and even heartbreak. We aim for our music to connect emotionally, especially with those living and working far from home. Influences and Inspirations When asked who inspires them, they all answered in unison: Regine Velasquez-Alcasid. 'It was a huge honor to front act for her 2023 Qatar concert–a surreal moment that motivated us to grow as performers,' the group recalls. 'Her vocal mastery left a lasting impact on us.' MYK cites performances at Philippine Independence Day and other cultural events as career-defining highlights. The group also serves as the resident trio of Sinag Digital Media Studio – a community talent platform they've had the privilege of hosting. 'One of our most memorable milestones was hosting Sinag Sessions, which featured Filipino artists in Doha – from vocalists to instrumentalists and bands,' the group shared. 'It validated not just our music but our ability to connect and inspire. Working with talented artists who share our passion motivates us to keep growing,' they added. What's Next? The trio is dreaming big: A full album, more original songs, and a potential tour back home in the Philippines. 'We're currently working on our first original single, and we're excited to share that it will be released soon on major music platforms,' they revealed. The group is also looking forward to releasing more original tracks on platforms like Spotify, YouTube, among others. 'We're working hard behind the scenes, and we can't wait to bring our music to more people,' they said. 'We hope to inspire others to keep dreaming.' The group is also open to collaborations and excited to share the stage with other artists in the OPM diaspora – locally and internationally. This August, Qatar Calendar presents a dynamic mix of events that invite families, children, and visitors of all ages to make the most of the summer season. From engaging educational programmes and workshops to exciting camps and immersive exhibitions, the month is packed with opportunities for fun, creativity, and exploration across the country. Family-Friendly Festivals and Summer Camps A wide selection of activities has been curated with children and families in mind. Qatar Toy Festival continues at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center until August 4, offering themed zones, entertainment, and interactive attractions. Running alongside it at the same venue is the Doha Summer Trade and Shopping Exhibition, open until August 4, featuring a variety of retail experiences, exclusive offers, and seasonal shopping opportunities. Mall of Qatar hosts the Kids Art Club through August 16, while Hello Summer at Ezdan Mall Wakra runs daily until August 22 with shows, games, and character meet-and-greets.
