Buccaneers Labeled Closest Team to a 'No Skip' Draft
From their first pick in the first round with Ohio State Buckeyes wideout Emeka Egbuka to the last pick of Oregon receiver Tez Johnson at No. 235 overall, Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht had what some analysts consider one of the best drafts of 2025. Licht added an offensive weapon in the first round when many thought he would focus on defense. It shows his ability to draft the best player available rather than for a specific need. And Licht continued that trend through all seven rounds. Advertisement CBS Sports draft analyst Mike Renner thinks the Bucs were the closest team to a "no skip" draft. "The Bucs were the closest any team came to a 'no skips' draft where every player was ranked higher on my board than where they got drafted. Only Emeka Egbuka was lower and by just 4 spots (pick 19 vs. 23 on my board)," Renner posted on X. Maybe one of the more impressive selections by the Bucs was their last one in the seventh round, Oregon wideout Tez Johnson. After being drafted, Johnson opened up about his excitement to head to Tampa Bay, where he already has some friends. 'When I answered the phone, I was like, 'What took them so long?" Johnson said. 'Obviously it's a blessing, I'm excited to get there, immediately thought of my boy Bucky [Irving] as soon as I got the call. 31 teams, we going to be there kryptonite the whole time. So it's going to be crazy experience, I can't wait to get there, I'm excited, got a few of my buddies down there with Jay McMillan. So we got some really good weapons to use for Baker Mayfield for sure.' PFF sees a Bucs day three draft pick making a big impact as a rookie
PFF sees a Bucs day three draft pick making a big impact as a rookie Pro Football Focus, or PFF, has released the names of Day 3 picks from the 2025 NFL Draft, which that it believes will significantly impact their teams despite the late selections. On that list is Bucs seventh-round pick Tez Johnson out of Oregon. The former Duck has the most yards after the catch of any player since 2023 with 1,342 yards. PFF believes Tez Johnson may not immediately crack the starting lineup, but they have faith in him. Max Chadwick writes, "While the Buccaneers have one of the most loaded receiving corps in the NFL, Johnson has the potential to make a surprising impact as a seventh-round pick. He is historically small for the position (5-foot-9 and 156 pounds), but he's an elite route-runner and tallied the most yards after the catch in the nation over the past two seasons. He won't start in Tampa Bay immediately, but don't be surprised if he cracks the rotation. " His style of play resembles that of a player he's now reunited with, Bucky Irving. Neither are very big nor have breakaway speed, but their short-area quickness and feet work make them a nightmare for opposing teams. Johnson will also look to impact the return game as the Bucs have struggled mightily to flip the field. Johnson, like Irving, looks to state the case that physical measurements can be evaluated, but not the heart.

Breaking: Bucs select Tez Johnson with the 235th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft
Breaking: Bucs select Tez Johnson with the 235th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft Just when you thought there was no more room in the Bucs' wide receiver room, Jason Licht found just enough room for one more player. With the 235th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Bucs selected Oregon wide receiver Tez Johnson in the seventh round. The Oregon wide receiver fell to the seventh round, most likely due to his size. Otherwise, he had no business being there. He has good footwork, nice body control, and strong hands to attack the ball in the air. Johnson transferred to Oregon after starting his college career at Troy and played in a total of 64 career college games. He was Second-Team All-Big Ten in 2024 and was the MVP of the 2024 Big Ten Championship Game. Johnson will be ready for the NFL life as he has the inside track from his adopted brother, Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix. The Bucs will get a talented, hard-working wide receiver who should be able to carve out a fun role on an explosive Josh Grizzard offense.

Oregon WR Tez Johnson selected with No. 235 pick in 2025 NFL draft
Oregon WR Tez Johnson selected with No. 235 pick in 2025 NFL draft Dreams really do come true. Oregon receiver Tez Johnson just had his dreams realized when he was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 7th round of the 2025 NFL draft, with pick No. 235. At 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds, Johnson may not be the prototypical NFL wide receiver, but he still gets the job done, which is exactly what he's done for his entire college career, whether it be at Troy or Oregon. Johnson was a good player for Troy. He tied for the ninth-most catches in program history with 141 and 10th with 1,809 receiving yards as a sophomore. Johnson was named honorable mention All-Sun Belt by coaches and media that year. But when he came to Oregon and teamed up with his adoptive brother Bo Nix at quarterback, Johnson exploded on the scene in the Pac-12 as a junior. He made history in his first season as a Duck, breaking the Oregon single-season record for receptions with 86 while racking up 1,182 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. Johnson ranked fifth in the Pac-12 and tied for 16th nationally in receptions as well as No. 4 in the Pac-12 and No. 12 in the country in receiving yards. Johnson was on the coaches' All-Pac-12 honorable mention list and on the Associated Press All-Pac-12 second team. Johnson solidified his NFL draft status in 2024 as he was on the All-Big Ten Second Team (coaches and media) and was named as the Big Ten Championship Game Most Valuable Player. It'll be interesting to see how Johnson fits in with Tampa Bay's plans going forward. He could be a possession-type receiver as as well as a deep threat. He also has special teams experience as well.
