PFF sees a Bucs day three draft pick making a big impact as a rookie
Pro Football Focus, or PFF, has released the names of Day 3 picks from the 2025 NFL Draft, which that it believes will significantly impact their teams despite the late selections. On that list is Bucs seventh-round pick Tez Johnson out of Oregon.
The former Duck has the most yards after the catch of any player since 2023 with 1,342 yards. PFF believes Tez Johnson may not immediately crack the starting lineup, but they have faith in him.
Max Chadwick writes, "While the Buccaneers have one of the most loaded receiving corps in the NFL, Johnson has the potential to make a surprising impact as a seventh-round pick. He is historically small for the position (5-foot-9 and 156 pounds), but he's an elite route-runner and tallied the most yards after the catch in the nation over the past two seasons. He won't start in Tampa Bay immediately, but don't be surprised if he cracks the rotation. "
His style of play resembles that of a player he's now reunited with, Bucky Irving.
Neither are very big nor have breakaway speed, but their short-area quickness and feet work make them a nightmare for opposing teams. Johnson will also look to impact the return game as the Bucs have struggled mightily to flip the field. Johnson, like Irving, looks to state the case that physical measurements can be evaluated, but not the heart.

CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz reported the Volunteers hired defensive assistant coach Marion Hobby. Advertisement An ex-Tennessee first-team All-SEC player, Hobby will serve as a defensive analyst for the Volunteers. "Hobby, a former All-SEC player at Tennessee, has coached in four NFL conference championship games (Saints, Jaguars, Bengals 2x) and a Super Bowl," Zenitz posted on X. "Hobby was also part of Clemson's 2016 national championship team." Hobby spent the past four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals as their defensive line coach. The longtime assist had been an NFL defensive line coach since 2017. From 2017-18, he coached the Jacksonville Jaguars defensive line. Before joining the Bengals, Hobby coached for the Miami Dolphins from 2019-20. The defensive end began his coaching career as a strength and conditioning coach for the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks in 1995. Hobby was an assistant strength and conditioning coach with Tennessee's 1998 national championship team. He received his first opportunity to coach a defensive line unit with the Ole Miss Rebels in 1999. Hobby coached at Ole Miss for five years and then spent one season with the Clemson Tigers before jumping to the NFL with the New Orleans Saints. After two seasons with the Saints, Hobby returned to the college ranks with the Duke Blue Devils. He then became co-defensive coordinator at Clemson from 2011-16 before going back to the NFL. Former Ohio State tight end Jeremy Ruckert responds to being reunited with Justin Fields Former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields seems to have found himself a new opportunity to seize a major role in the NFL with the New York Jets after signing a two-year deal with the club. A byproduct of that is that he gets a chance to reconnect with a couple of other former Buckeyes that he played with in Columbus. We've already heard from receiver Garrett Wilson on his excitement to play with the former Heisman Finalist and first-round NFL draft pick, but the electric receiver isn't the only former OSU player donning a Jets uniform. Former tight end Jeremy Ruckert, who played for Ohio State from 2018 to 2021, got to block for and catch passes from Fields on the banks of the Olentangy for two years. So yeah, he too has some history with the guy the Jets' brass hopes turns around the fortunes of the J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets. Ruckert was asked by the New York media what it means to be playing with his college teammate again, and was excited more for the team than himself. "Any time you get a chance to reconnect with one of your teammates, whether it's in the League or college, it's great,: Ruckert told reporters. "I'm excited where we're going as a team and the culture we're setting, and I think he's (Fields) perfect for that role, and just these last couple of weeks to get back on the same page and get our timing right with all the guys. It's been special to be a part of that, but also kind of get the other guys rolling and continue to grow as a unit." If you are an Ohio State fan, there aren't too many storylines that jump out more than what Fields does in New York. If he can use his athletic gifts the right way and still find a way to stay poised and present in the pocket, we could see a budding star coming to light just a little later than we thought. However, with the compact schedule at the Texas High School Rodeo Finals, one group is catering to the schedule during the lunch hour with rodeo professionals for inspiration. 'Definitely a first' Texas high school rodeo competitors shelter through Sunday storms It is a serene space to escape from the chaos that's outside, something rodeo professional Trey Johnson knows all too well. Johnson said he remembers his old high school competition days. 'When you're competing the same day, you only have a couple of hours to go and eat a meal, get back, and then you've got to prepare again,' Johnson recalled. 'When I was in high school, there weren't very many people who would show up. Usually, it was early in the morning, like 7:00, 7:30 in the morning.' With the small window of time that contestants sometimes face, Crossroads Rodeo Ministries is offering a compromise: a good meal and something that is deeply rooted in rodeo culture – church. Founder Robert Till said that most of the time, contestants do not realize just how significant the church's influence is. 'There are 60 church services going on and 60 [rodeo competitions], they think, in their region. 'I go to my next rodeo and there will be a church service there,' but nobody's thinking how big this thing is,' Till said. 'It's different than the pressure in the arena. They were fishing for words, I just said an oasis. And they said, yes, it's just a place where they can come and let down, which for us makes them open. They hear the message.' Texas teen follows in sister's footsteps on Day 1 of State High School Rodeo Finals Johnson attended services all the time growing up in the competitive environment, but he said it wasn't until his adult life that he took them seriously. 'I had a car accident; I woke up and was going 70 miles an hour on a four-way highway with a truck and a horse trailer. It jumped a water corridor,' Johnson said. 'That night in that upside-down horse trailer, I just made a decision. I just want to know God, I don't want to be religious. I don't want to know just church.' Gunner Link was born with just one hand, but that isn't slowing him down Now, he and Till bring in big names in the rodeo world to help inspire competitors during their small break from the competition. Johnson said they cater to the lunch hour, one of the only times competitors can get a break. 'It lets you kind of stay. You can let down your guard, eat lunch, learn something, but then you dial back in and you're ready. You don't feel like you're rushing or behind the ball,' Johnson said.
