Shaquille O'Neal Reveals How He Squashed Beef With Dwight Howard

Shaquille O'Neal and Dwight Howard are no longer beefing after 17 years of animosity between the two legendary centers. Their career trajectories have more similarities than some would like to admit, although O'Neal collected more championship rings than Howard. After starting their careers in Orlando, becoming two forces to reckon with, both O'Neal and Howard continued their journey in Los Angeles. Shaq signed a seven-year, $121 million contract with the Lakers in 1996 free agency, while Howard was traded from Orlando in 2012 to create what turned out to be one of the worst super teams in NBA history alongside Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, and Steve Nash. O'Neal was previously called "Superman" during his active days, and seeing people calling Howard that didn't sit well with him. Nearly 20 years have passed since the start of their rivalry. Even after retiring, O'Neal kept firing shots at Howard now and then. Advertisement It all changed after Howard requested O'Neal to walk him out at the 2025 Hall of Fame ceremony. The four-time NBA champion accepted the request and called Howard his boy. After many years of beefing with each other, they sat to talk in the latest episode of O'Neal's "The Big Podcast with Shaq." A clip shared on Friday (via Legion Hoops on X) shows how these two buried the hatchet and ended the seemingly never-ending beef after they were at the same bar. "You surprised me at the bar," O'Neal said. "I'm at the bar and he just got his jersey retired. I'm sitting there and everybody think we were going to (expletive) fight. Advertisement "I'm sitting there and I got my back to the door. My boy with me, he's smoking. Dwight come up with this big swole, muscled dude and they stand behind me... I turn, I see Dwight and I'm like, 'Oh (expletive), we about to tear this (expletive) up. "He's like, 'Hey, big fella, can I talk to you?' So we go in the back and before he started talking I said, 'Hey, man, what makes you think I don't like you?'" Since that moment, their relationship and interaction have changed completely. O'Neal agreed to walk out Howard during the Hall of Fame ceremony, they had a long conversation on this podcast and perhaps this will be the start of many other collaborations between them. Advertisement They found success with the same team, became first-time champions with the same organization, and were more similar than they liked to admit. After almost two decades, the two Supermen aren't going against each other. Related: Shaquille O'Neal's Clear Message to Dwight Howard After Hall of Fame Request

Former NBA star Shaquille O'Neal makes surprising statement after purchasing 3 Cybertrucks: 'Struggling'

Not too long ago, NBA great Shaquille O'Neal was a vocal fan of Tesla's Cybertruck — which is why the basketball legend's recent admission that he sold two of the three electric vehicle models he owned came as a surprise to fans. Celebrities like O'Neal wield a significant level of influence over consumer trends like EV adoption, and his recent remarks about why he soured on the embattled Cybertruck might — but shouldn't — discourage drivers who are considering the switch to eco-friendlier vehicles. Back in August, O'Neal frantically contacted Tesla dealerships in Atlanta to locate an available backup model to purchase, as his beloved Cybertruck was being stored in Las Vegas. His decision to subsequently offload two of his three Tesla Cybertrucks was one topic du jour on the April 18 episode of his show, The Big Podcast with Shaq. The discussion turned to cars, and O'Neal explained why his initial enthusiasm for the EV model had waned. Actor and comedian Karlous Miller was a guest on O'Neal's podcast when the basketball icon said that he "used to be into" the Cybertruck — and he cited range anxiety as the main reason his love for the model was expressed in the past tense. "They don't get enough … charging mileage," O'Neal said. Automotive magazine Car and Driver echoed O'Neal's disappointment with the Cybertruck's range in its tests of the model. Although Tesla estimated the Cybertruck's range at between 320 and 350 miles per charge, Car and Driver found it "fell 70 miles short" of that figure in the magazine's fuel economy testing. Particularly when taken out of context, O'Neal's comments had the potential to exacerbate consumer range anxiety — one of the most common worries among those in the market for their first EV. It's true O'Neal found the Cybertruck's range insufficient for his needs compared to another EV he drives, lamenting that he'd be "struggling to get back [home]" from work due to what he considered insufficient range on a full charge. Coupled with Tesla's broader sales woes, a prominent celebrity's mixed experience with a popular model's range could turn away buyers who are on the fence, slowing consumer adoption of EVs despite a slew of new sales incentives offered to potential Cybertruck buyers. It's worth noting that O'Neal contrasted his experience with the Cybertruck with that of another EV model — and he was absolutely thrilled with its range. In fact, his frustrations with the Cybertruck's range appeared to stem from his acquisition of another luxury EV Cadillac makes. In the same breath as his range complaint, O'Neal continued, explaining he'd just acquired a Cadillac Escalade EQ with an unbelievable range. According to Cadillac, the model can go 460 miles on a full charge. O'Neal didn't mention mileage, but he said his Cadillac could go "for four days" without a charge. Shaq agrees to walk Dwight Howard into Hall of Fame, settling years-long feud: ‘That's my guy'

Former NBA centers Dwight Howard and Shaquille O'Neal are burying the hatchet on their years-long feud with a little pomp and circumstance at Howard's induction to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame later this year. After Howard's inclusion in the hall was announced during the men's NCAA Final Four on April 5, he shared via X that he wanted Kevin Garnett, O'Neal and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to walk him out as part of a traditional presentation done at every induction ceremony. Howard later added in an X post that he also wanted Hakeem Olajuwon and Dennis Rodman to be a part of his induction. Advertisement O'Neal, who was elected into the Hall of Fame in 2016, immediately agreed. 'That's awesome. I'll do it,' he said Thursday in response to Howard's social media post while speaking on 'The Big Podcast with Shaq.' When co-host Adam Lefkoe expressed a bit of shock at O'Neal's reaction, the legendary big man doubled down. 'I'll be there. … Of course. That's my guy.' Shaq has agreed to walk @DwightHoward out at the Hall of Fame 👏@bigpodwithshaq | — Playmaker (@playmaker) April 10, 2025 Howard extending an olive branch is surprising given the two have had beef since 2008 when O'Neal took offense to Howard donning a Superman cape and wearing a shirt with the character's 'S' logo to perform in that year's Slam Dunk contest. Howard won the event with an iconic dunk and received a perfect score in the final round, but in the days and years that followed, O'Neal repeatedly insisted that he was the sole owner of the Superman nickname in the NBA. O'Neal continued to rib Howard about his play and demeanor through social media posts and while speaking on his podcast. In November, Howard playfully suggested that the two should face off in a boxing match to profit from their conflict. 'Shaq wassup,' he wrote in a post to X with a boxing glove emoji. 'Let's make bread,' he added, followed by a crying laughing emoji. But O'Neal didn't take kindly to the offer. 'Gotta have more than one (NBA championship) ring to get in the ring with me,' he wrote on X. 'You can have the Superman belt, all yours buddy.' Howard addressed the animosity during an appearance on 'The GAUDs Show' in January, explaining that he tried to reach out to O'Neal to sort out the issue because he didn't understand the continued disrespect. 'There are so many things that we could do together. There are so many people that we could bring together, but yet you got an attitude about what?' Howard said. 'I have no issue with you. But you continue to talk about me. I'm gonna have to come to you.' Advertisement Howard added that even though neither he nor O'Neal is currently playing in the NBA, 'we still going on with the pettiness.' 'At what point does it stop, and do you have a real issue? Because if you do have a real issue, let's move past it.' O'Neal responded to Howard's comments with a long post to X the same day. Still don't care nice move I see what you doing, your legacy is your new podcast that's how u will be remembered and u need views, dam I taught you well, great job hall of fame podcaster. But still don't care. You need the sit down, u need my validation,I don't need yours, how… — SHAQ (@SHAQ) January 7, 2025 'I won't ever bring your name up again sensitive big man, a jokester that can't take a joke. Won't ever say your name again ever again,' he wrote. Howard fired back, writing that O'Neal had 'always been jealous' and telling him to 'grow the hell up and move on.' Despite saying he wouldn't bring up Howard's name again, O'Neal replied by saying that Howard's legacy is his podcast and pointing out that he wasn't a Hall of Famer yet. Three months later, Howard is awaiting his induction into the hall and will have O'Neal by his side for the enshrinement ceremony on Sept. 6. After O'Neal agreed to partake in the ceremony, Howard wrote an X post expressing his appreciation. 'It will be an honor to have you, KG, DROD, Hakeem and Kareem walk me into the Basketball Heavens.' Shaq appreciate you man it will be an honor to have you KG, DROD , Hakeem and Kareem walk me into the Basketball Heavens #hof 🙏🏾 — Dwight Howard (@DwightHoward) April 10, 2025 Maybe the two players — whose careers followed similar paths from being selected No. 1 by the Orlando Magic to winning championships with the Los Angeles Lakers — will find peace after all.
