Shaq details why ‘I f–king hate' Rudy Gobert in wild rant as bad blood intensifies

New York Post5 days ago
Shaquille O'Neal's longstanding feud with Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert took an even more drastic twist Thursday.
The NBA Hall of Famer has traded barbs with Gobert for years, but this time it got personal.
'I f–king hate Rudy Gobert,' said O'Neal on his podcast 'The Big Podcast with Shaq.'

'Because that motherf–ker making $250 million, [and] he don't deserve it, dawg. F–k that. As the president of The Big Man Alliance, you making big money, play like a f–king big man. That's it. Throw some [elbows], knock some people out, don't be letting little white dudes from Denver dunk on you and talk s–t to you.'
Gobert, a four-time defensive player of the year, has averaged 11.7 rebounds, 12.6 points, 2.1 blocks and 0.7 steals per game in his 12-year career.
O'Neal is hoping those accomplishments aren't enough to make the two Hall of Fame counterparts.

'If Rudy Gobert gets into the Hall of Fame, I'll wear this dress to the motherf–king ceremony,' said O'Neal while holding up a picture of Charles Barkley wearing a dress in a WeightWatchers commercial.
O'Neal has targeted Gobert since at least 2021, when he made fun of his lack of offensive ability.
Shaquille O'Neal is not a big fan of Rudy Gobert still.

'I'm not gonna hate, but this should be an inspiration to all the little kids out there,' O'Neal said. 'You average 11 points in the NBA, you can get $200 million.'
His opinion of Gobert is so low that he even had rival Draymond Green's back when Green was suspended for putting Gobert in a headlock in 2023.
Last season, O'Neal told Complex that Gobert was the worst NBA player of all time, along with Ben Simmons, whom he called 'another bum.'

Gobert responded to that diss on social media.
O'Neal previously said he doesn't like Gobert because he averages 12 points per game.

'It is sad to see someone that has accomplished as much as you did @SHAQ both in sport and business still be triggered by another man's finances and accomplishments,' Gobert said. 'I get the entertainment part but unlike other folks, you don't need that stuff to stay relevant.'

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Aside from LeBron James' future and Luka Doncic's contract extension, one of the biggest offseason questions surrounding the Los Angeles Lakers is what role Bronny James will play in 2025. There's no question the 20-year-old guard experienced a steep learning curve during his rookie season, in which he averaged 2.3 points, 0.8 assists, 0.7 rebounds, and 6.7 minutes per game across 27 contests. Bronny split time between the NBA and the G League, where he played in 18 games between the regular season and tip-off tournament for South Bay Lakers, averaging 18.6 points, 4.8 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per night, and he saw his playing time with the Lakers increase slightly toward the end of the regular season as the team battled injuries down the stretch. More Basketball: Warriors' Steph Curry Reveals Surprising Bronny James Revelation The former second-round pick showed some small flashes at different points last season, which included his nine-point game against the Utah Jazz on Feb. 12 and the 17-point, five-assist, three-rebound performance he had against the Milwaukee Bucks on March 20 — all career highs. So heading into Year 2 as a pro, many eyes will be on Bronny to see if he does, in fact, take the next step in his development and possibly carve out a role for himself with many expecting his father, LeBron, to move onto a new team in 2026. Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick talks to Bronny James #9 during the first half of their preseason game against the Golden State Warriors at Chase Center on October 18, 2024 in San Francisco, California. MoreAs Bronny finished up his second Summer League stint, Lakers head coach JJ Redick offered him a bit of advice on what to work on. "The biggest thing for Bronny is that he has to get in elite shape," Redick told ESPN's Dave McMenamin. "That's the barrier of entry for him right now. And if he does that, I think he's got a chance to be a really fantastic player in the NBA." Redick also name-dropped two other NBA players he wants Bronny to model his game after — Miami Heat point guard Davion Mitchell and Indiana Pacers point guard T.J. McConnell — both of whom Redick says are shining examples of strong two-way play plus optimal stamina and physicality. More Basketball: Fever Predicted to Trade for WNBA Champion After Caitlin Clark News In three Summer League appearances, Bronny showed signs of improvement from the same point last year, averaging 16.3 points, 4.3 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per outing, and seemingly taking a step forward as a scorer. His performance even landed him a spot on Jerry Jiang's top five sophomore standouts from the Summer League for "The biggest difference was confidence — James simply looked more comfortable running the offense and continued to shoot the 3-point shot well," Jiang wrote.

Luka Doncic's offseason transformation reportedly set before Mavericks trade

Luka Doncic's weight-loss journey has become a major storyline this offseason, as the Los Angeles Lakers point guard set out to improve his conditioning in pursuit of an NBA title alongside LeBron James. Doncic was traded to the Lakers last season in a blockbuster deal that sent Anthony Davis to Dallas. The move drew widespread criticism, with Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison publicly citing concerns over Doncic's conditioning as justification for parting ways with the franchise cornerstone. Despite the noise, the five-time All-Star has remained focused on his wellness program this summer, even landing on the cover of Men's Health magazine. While Harrison's comments may have added some extra motivation, Doncic's commitment to his fitness reportedly began well before the trade, according to Dan Woike of The Athletic. "Some sources in Doncic's inner circle believed he was on the path toward this kind of physical transformation whether or not Dallas general manager Nico Harrison had bet against him,' Woike wrote. MORE: NBA analyst offers update on LeBron James' future after cyptic post Doncic started working with his current physical wellness team in 2023 and has fully bought into a new training regimen following an injury-riddled 2024-25 campaign, during which he missed an extended period due to a left calf strain. Reports indicate that the 26-year-old adopted a strict diet and spent the early part of the offseason prioritizing strength and conditioning. Entering his eighth NBA season, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft looks ready to showcase the results of his hard work as the Lakers' top option. Doncic holds career averages of 28.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, 8.2 assists and 1.3 steals per game. After a slight dip in production last season, he'll look to reestablish himself as one of the best players in the world.
