Riverwood Plantation businesses prepare for busiest two weeks of the year
EVANS, Ga. (WJBF) – With the Augusta National Women's Amateur on the horizon, local businesses are getting ready in the Riverwood Plantation area.
Riverwood Plantation is just a few minutes from Champions Retreat Golf Club.
Business owners say excitement is building for one of their busiest weeks of the year.
Brinley Walden is an employee at Ironwood Tavern.
'We're pretty excited, getting geared up. We have a crazy week—I think I have 54 hours scheduled, but we'll probably end up at a little bit more. There's a lot of prep to do, but we're excited,' said Walden.
Customers start walking through the doors at 11 AM at Ironwood Tavern.
Walden says they're looking at more foot traffic with Masters-themed specials for the entire month of April starting this week.
'We have a pizza that's called 'The Birdie on the Green'—a little play on the golf. We've got a chicken salad sandwich we're running for the specials, and we have a new peach ice cream waffle dessert. So it's kind of Georgia, Masters–themed specials,' Walden said.
At Woody's Spirits, manager Joshua Willis is stocking up on the top liquor brands that he only sells this time of year.
'Definitely the big name brands. Woodford, Bakers, trying to build up on those. All your high-end wines, Caymus, Prisoner, all these other things that we really sell during the Masters week. Not so much during the rest of the year—a few bottles here and there—but we're getting cases and preorders,' said Willis.
Of course, you can't forget your coffee.
Rooted Coffeehouse is hiring more staff to have all hands-on deck. They say it's the time of year they truly shine as a local business.
'We do a lot more specials, especially to the themes of the Masters. We're going to have a lot of specialty drinks, specialty foods. We're going to have lunch boxes to go for the Masters. It's just the personality of your local baristas versus the chain baristas,' said Carmella Schreffler.
The first practice round for the Augusta National Women's Amateur starts tomorrow, with the tournament officially kicking off this Wednesday.
Business owners say while they're excited for ANWA traffic this week, they anticipate a lot more next week for the Masters.
