Roman Reigns WWE return: 'OTC' to replace controversial star in Money in the Bank match and teach Seth Rollins a lesson?
Roman Reigns WWE return: The Money in the Bank Premium Live Event (PLE) is almost upon us. The show will be held in Inglewood on June 7. It will feature the titular match in which six men from Raw and SmackDown will lock horns to secure the coveted briefcase that guarantees them the right to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship or the Undisputed Championship at a time and place of their choosing. The participants are LA Knight, Solo Sikoa, El Grande Americano, Andrade, Seth Rollins, and Penta. One of these stars, however, may not make it to the match if Roman Reigns has his way. Roman Reigns to give Seth Rollins the shock of a lifetime? Reigns has not been seen on WWE programming since the Raw after WrestleMania 41 when Bron Breakker speared him through the barricade. In doing so, 'The Unpredictable Badass' aligned with the OTC's arch-rival Seth Rollins. Rollins, who has since then been joined by Bronson Reed, plans to capture the briefcase and change the landscape of the company forever. His plans may, however, go for a toss if Reigns finds a way to insert himself into the marquee match and win it. Hypothetically, he could do so by taking out and replacing El Grande Americano in the contest. The 'legendary luchador' has been a nightmare for masked wrestlers ever since his debut a few months ago. Many believe that Raw's Chad Gable is under the mask, which makes this character all the more controversial. As such, taking out such a notorious re-establish Reigns as a face (good guy) and add some much-needed star power to the marquee ladder match. Going down this route will help Reigns reignite his personal rivalry with Seth Rollins and possibly teach his faction a lesson. Inserting Reigns into the match will also allow the WWE to revisit (even if briefly) OTC's chequered past with his cousin Solo Sikoa, who had him removed from The Bloodline. That said, this angle is purely speculative as things stand. Why does Roman Reigns hate Seth Rollins? Reigns and Seth Rollins were once part of the group called The Shield, which ruled the WWE. 'The Visionary', however, betrayed him many years ago. This led to the downfall of their relationship. Things hit rock bottom at WrestleMania 41 when Paul Heyman– the former Big Dog's 'Wiseman'-- betrayed him on Rollins' orders. Heyman also stabbed his 'friend' CM Punk in the back on that fateful night. Stay ahead of the game with the latest updates, match highlights, and insider stories from IPL, cricket, WWE, and more! Does WWE star JC Mateo or Jeff Cobb belong to the Samoan family? Find out
The WWE universe was taken aback when Jeff Cobb, rebranded as JC Mateo, made a dramatic entrance at Backlash 2025. Aligning himself with Solo Sikoa's Bloodline faction, he played a pivotal role in assisting Jacob Fatu during his United States Championship defense. This unexpected alliance raised eyebrows and sparked questions about Mateo's heritage and his connection to the illustrious Anoa'i family. Who is Jeff Cobb? Before his WWE debut, Jeff Cobb was a renowned figure in the wrestling world. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, he represented Guam in the 2004 Summer Olympics as an amateur wrestler. Transitioning to professional wrestling in 2009, Cobb gained prominence in promotions like Lucha Underground, where he portrayed the formidable Matanza Cueto, and New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), securing multiple championships over an eight-year tenure. His departure from NJPW in April 2025 fueled speculation about a potential WWE signing, which materialized at Backlash. Heritage and WWE alignment Despite his association with the Samoan-centric Bloodline, JC Mateo is not of Samoan descent. He is of Filipino heritage and has no familial ties to the Anoa'i lineage, which includes prominent figures like Roman Reigns and The Usos. His inclusion in the faction appears to be a strategic move by WWE to introduce fresh dynamics and narratives within the group. It ain't no ghost from your past, I see you UCE, we gonna run this place 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽 At Backlash 2025, Mateo made his presence felt by aiding Jacob Fatu in retaining the United States Championship, attacking LA Knight during a critical moment in the match. This intervention, orchestrated by Solo Sikoa, hinted at internal tensions within The Bloodline, especially given Fatu's visible discomfort with the interference. The storyline progressed on the May 16 episode of SmackDown, where Solo Sikoa formally introduced JC Mateo as the newest member of The Bloodline. Tensions escalated between Sikoa and Fatu, with the latter questioning the need for loyalty displays. The segment culminated in LA Knight attacking Mateo, setting the stage for an impromptu match later that night. In his in-ring debut, Mateo showcased his prowess, securing a victory over Knight with his signature "Tour of the Islands" finisher. While JC Mateo may not share the Anoa'i bloodline, his integration into the faction introduces compelling narrative possibilities. His presence could signify a shift in The Bloodline's dynamics, emphasizing loyalty and shared objectives over familial ties. As WWE continues to evolve its storylines, Mateo's role could be pivotal in shaping the future of this iconic faction.

WWE is Planning Major Match for Saturday Night Main Event: Report
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. WWE's upcoming Saturday Night's Main Event television special is rapidly becoming a must-see show, with the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reporting a major World Heavyweight Championship match is scheduled. The event is already experiencing significant fan interest, as evidenced by strong ticket sales. According to the latest figures, 9,224 tickets have been distributed for the Tampa show, which boasts an $83 get-in price for the remaining seats. This strongly suggests a sold-out atmosphere as the venue's television setup accommodates 9,762 attendees. Adding to the blockbuster feel, current Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena is a central figure in the event's advertising. This prominent marketing has fueled widespread anticipation that Cena himself will be competing, potentially putting his own championship on the line. That hasn't been confirmed yet. Per the report, "Main Event" Jey Uso is set to defend his World Title against Logan Paul in Tampa. Should both Jey Uso and John Cena defend their respective World Titles, this Saturday Night's Main Event would feature a championship density typically reserved for Premium Live Events. This booking strategy indicates WWE's intent to make the television special a monumental broadcast. SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - JANUARY 25: Jey Uso aims an Uso Splash at Gunther during Saturday Night's Main Event at Frost Bank Center on January 25, 2025 in San Antonio, Texas. WWE/Getty Images WWE News: Steve Austin Reveals Real-Life Vince McMahon Confrontation Uso's 2025 has continued his remarkable rise as a premier singles competitor. Having captured the World Heavyweight Championship, he has solidified his status as a main event player on either Raw or SmackDown. Throughout the year, Jey's connection with the WWE Universe has remained exceptionally strong. His "YEET" catchphrase resonates with fans and got him over in the first place. Regarding Jey Uso's history with Saturday Night's Main Event, the modern iteration of these specials began in 2022 as infrequent, high-profile television broadcasts. While Jey has likely been a prominent feature on these shows, given his consistent main event presence first with The Bloodline and now as a singles champion, specific defining moments or title changes for him on SNME might be less frequent compared to major PLEs. The challenge from Logan Paul presents a fresh and intriguing matchup for the World Heavyweight Champion. While Paul has rapidly ascended in WWE with his impressive athleticism and mainstream appeal, a one-on-one World Championship encounter with Jey Uso is a new dynamic. With the Jey Uso vs. Logan Paul title match locked in and the strong possibility of John Cena also competing, the Tampa edition of Saturday Night's Main Event is poised to be a big show. WWE presents its Backlash PLE this Saturday, where Cena will headline while defending the World Title against Randy Orton. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.

WWE Raw takeaways: CM Punk returns, spoils Seth Rollins' title shot
WWE Raw takeaways: CM Punk returns, spoils Seth Rollins' title shot WWE Monday Night Raw on May 5 took place at CHI Health Center in Omaha, Neb., and featured a World Heavyweight Championship match between Jey Uso and Seth Rollins. The go-home episode for Backlash saw Rusev compete in his first match since returning, Sheamus was also back in action against Austin Theory, Penta picked up a win over JD McDonagh, and Pat McAfee went at Gunther on the mic. Check out the top takeaways from this episode: Paul Heyman goes deep into his promo bag Kicking off this week's episode was the champ, "Main Event" Jey Uso, looking for a face-to-face with Logan Paul. Instead, get was greeted by another Paul, The Bloodline's former Wiseman, Paul Heyman. It didn't take much for Uso to set Heyman off, but boy, oh boy, did he go off. Uso said he had "a lot of balls" entering the ring with him after betraying his family. Heyman went from zero to 100 as he vented about how his "best friend" CM Punk put him in an impossible position at WrestleMania. He then addressed Roman Reigns, who he called a "stray Big Dog on the Island of Irrelevancy" and turned him in to the "Tribal Chief." Heyman blamed Reigns for leaving him alone with The Bloodline while he sulked after losing the title to Cody Rhodes. Heyman then nearly gave himself a heart attack as he went off about being right in this whole situation. It was an intensely passionate moment. Oscar-worthy acting, some would say. Uso simply quipped, "Are you OK?" Uso then asked what all of this has to do with him. That's when Heyman said he came out to announce Seth Rollins was challenging him for the World Heavyweight Championship, and would give him the choice of which night he would lose the title. Uso replied that if it was to be anytime, anyplace, then that time and place would be tonight. In a backstage segment with Rollins and Bron Breakker, Heyman said Uso "fell for it." Heyman then explained the whole plan to Breakker, who was either confused about what just happened, or was upset it wasn't him getting the title shot. It was legitimately difficult to read what he was going for there. This was a fantastic opening promo segment. Heyman's intensity was amazing, and Uso's immediate call for Rollins to step up later in the show was the best response he could have offered. More on the main event match later. Dominik Mysterio to defend IC title vs. Penta Everyone's favorite Intercontinental Champion, Dominik Mysterio found out that he will be putting his title on the line at Backlash against Penta, the man who defeated his Judgment Day stablemate JD McDonagh. Mysterio didn't seem to sweat it, but AJ Styles barged into the Judgment Day room to announce he was coming after whoever holds the IC title after Backlash. Lyra Valkyria checks Becky Lynch, again Becky Lynch took to the ring to talk about taking out the trash (Bayley) and the recycling (Lyra Valkyria). She was building a clever promo before Valkyria appeared to question her about being labeled as recycling when all Lynch does is recycle everything about her character. The two went back and forth on the mic, and it felt like Valkyria once again took the upper hand. When Lynch was done exchanging words, she took a swipe at Valkyria, and after a little scuffle, ended up laid out on the ground with the women's IC champ holding the title high. Lynch returning to the women's IC title picture has been a fantastic decision. The promos with Valkyria have been great every time, creating arguably the best of the very short builds to Backlash. IYO SKY beats Roxanne Perez, gets jumped after For no reason other than just putting a banger of a match on the lineup, IYO SKY faced Roxanne Perez in a non-title match. Non-title matches so the winner can earn a title shot is the most ridiculous concept, but I'll look past it here since IYO SKY has been on fire with the fans lately. The match was unsurprisingly good. After IYO SKY pinned Perez in a fun ending sequence of rollups, the champ shook hands with Perez. IYO SKY attempted to get the crowd to clap for Perez, but in doing so, she was attacked from behind by Giulia. Unlike last week, Rhea Ripley was unavailable to run out to help. It'll be interesting to see how this whole thing develops in the coming weeks once Perez and Giulia get some promo time to really see where this is heading. CM Punk returns to spoil Seth Rollins' title shot The main event between Seth Rollins and Jey Uso closed the show, and to be honest, it was turning into the best match Uso has had in recent memory. It was certainly better than the WrestleMania match against Gunther. However, being a randomly announced match on a Monday night, you just knew that this finish wouldn't be clean. Sure enough, Bron Breakker got involved, which prompted Sami Zayn to come out to assist. After things were evened out, it seemed like Uso was going to pull off a pin anyway, but then CM Punk made his return, costing Rollins his title opportunity by attacking him with a chair. It's kind of funny Uso's best match took place on a Monday before a PLE instead of at a big event, but then again, he wasn't facing Rollins in any of his recent PLE matches. The story of the new faction wanting Uso's title is intriguing, though. Hopefully it continues after Backlash, where Uso should defeat Logan Paul – who, ended up blindsiding Uso after the show went off the air.

WWE's Bloodline legacy unfolds as Roman Reigns opens up on Samoan Dynasty
Image via ESPN Roman Reigns and his family, famously known as The Bloodline - have long ruled WWE storylines. But as ESPN's latest episode of Stephanie's Places reveals, their real story is rooted far beyond the squared circle, tracing back to backyard barbecues, youth football games, and deep family traditions. A legacy rooted in heritage WWE veteran Stephanie McMahon recently joined Reigns, Jey and Jimmy Uso, Sami Zayn, Solo Sikoa, Jacob Fatu, and other members of the Samoan wrestling dynasty for an gathering that felt more like a family reunion than a wrestling feature. The setting? A sunny yacht, a full spread of traditional Samoan dishes, and memories that spanned generations. The heart of the conversation was The Bloodline's enduring bond - both personal and professional. 'This is how we do it,' Reigns told McMahon, pointing to their shared meal and laughter. 'We gather, we break bread, and we keep the family strong.' From there, the legacy passed to the Wild Samoans - Afa and Sika, who trained the next generation, including Yokozuna, Rikishi, and eventually Reigns himself. Many of them grew up in the same neighborhood in Pensacola, Florida. 'Every weekend we got together,' Reigns recalled. 'Football games, barbeques, music, swimming - it was always a celebration of family.' The Bloodline's dominance in WWE Today, the influence of The Bloodline is felt across WWE. Reigns remains one of the longest-reigning world champions, while Jey Uso recently won the 2025 Men's Royal Rumble and captured the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 41. Jacob Fatu claimed the United States title on the same night. Solo Sikoa has also stepped into the spotlight, especially during last year's high-stakes storyline that saw him challenge Reigns over the title of Tribal Chief - a narrative mirroring real-life tensions and generational shifts within the family. Stephanie McMahon later shared her reflections on social media, calling the experience 'precious memories' and praising the family's unique mix of cultural pride and professional excellence. In a world where wrestling stables often fade, The Bloodline stands out - not just as a faction, but as a family built on legacy, loyalty, and love.
