Panthers GM Dan Morgan likens owner David Tepper to 'misunderstood' movie villain

Panthers GM Dan Morgan likens owner David Tepper to 'misunderstood' movie villain The Carolina Panthers, and owner David Tepper, are ready to turn the corner. President of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan was a guest on Wednesday's episode of The Pat McAfee Show. After covering some on-field items, primarily the team's exciting 2025 draft class, host Pat McAfee asked Morgan about his experience working with Tepper. "He is definitely misunderstood," Morgan replied. "He is somebody that you can talk to, hang out with, laugh with, have a good time with. He just wants to win—just like I want to win, just like Coach [Dave] Canales wants to win. He's gonna supply everything that we need to win. "We're getting a new indoor facility outside, stadium renovations are on the way. So things are changing around here, things are looking really positive—and that's a testament to David and Nicole Tepper." Tepper hasn't built up the most pristine résumé during his near-eight-year run as team owner. From his drink-tossing episode in Jacksonville to his hat-snatching incident at a local bar in Charlotte, the bold billionaire is not a stranger to controversy. (Plus, when it comes to the gridiron itself, the Panthers have not even sniffed the playoffs in any of his seven seasons at the helm.) But according to Morgan, Tepper really isn't the "big bad wolf" some may perceive him as. "It's like a villain in a movie that you think they're a certain way—but then you're actually here, you're with 'em every day and they're the total opposite of what you thought," he later added. Along with investments for the team's new practice facility and the upcoming upgrades to Bank of America Stadium, Tepper has also turned his resources towards the community. David and his wife Nicole, as noted by McAfee, made an initial $3 million commitment towards relief efforts following Hurricane Helene—the tropical cyclone that caused devastation throughout the Southeastern United States this past September. He'd then go on to help raise over $24 million for the cause after hosting an all-star country music benefit concert at the stadium in October. As for the football—the Teppers, Morgan, Canales and the Panthers are hoping to snap what's currently a franchise-record playoff drought (seven seasons) in 2025. Panthers signing son of franchise legend

Panthers signing son of franchise legend The Carolina Panthers may be trying to build their own small herd. According to NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, the Panthers are signing wide receiver Muhsin "Moose" Muhammad III, son of franchise great Muhsin "Moose" Muhammad, as an undrafted free agent. Little "Moose," a Charlotte, N.C. native, played at Texas A&M University from 2020 to 2024. The 6-foot-1, 195-pounder, over those five seasons, amassed 81 receptions for 1,163 yards and 12 touchdowns. Muhammad also served as a punt returner for the Aggies, fielding 27 total attempts for a combined 194 yards (7.2 yards per return). His father, the big "Moose," played 11 of his 14 NFL seasons in Carolina—where he was named a first-team All-Pro and a two-time Pro Bowler. He still stands as the franchise's second all-time leading receiver (9,255 yards) and is one of eight members of the organization's Hall of Honor. Panthers announce major update on their upcoming training camp

Panthers announce major update on their upcoming training camp The Carolina Panthers will be wearing their hard hats this summer . . . and the next. As announced on Wednesday, fans will not be permitted to attend the team's training camp practices for both the 2025 and 2026 seasons due to construction at their practice fields. The team released the following statement on the matter this morning: Due to ongoing construction at the Carolina Panthers practice fields, the team is unable to host fans onsite throughout the 2025 and 2026 Carolina Panthers Training Camps. The Panthers will host fans during Fan Fest at Bank of America Stadium on Saturday, August 2, 2025. Per Joe Person of The Athletic, the construction relates to the Panthers' new indoor practice facility—which will be completed in phases to maximize field space for the team. Person also noted that the organization did not consider returning to Wofford College, the site of their training camps from 1995 to 2023, for their upcoming sessions. The Panthers, starting in 2024, moved their training camp to the practice fields across from Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. Panthers taking their time deciding on LT Ikem Ekwonu's 5th-year option

Panthers taking their time deciding on LT Ikem Ekwonu's 5th-year option The Carolina Panthers aren't in a hurry to make the obvious decision on starting left tackle Ikem Ekwonu. May 2 will be the final day where teams can officially exercise the fifth-year options on their 2022 first-rounds picks. And when it comes to Ekwonu's future, the Panthers feel like they don't have to get that paperwork in right away. "We're just taking our time with that," president of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan said on Tuesday. "There's no rush. We still have, I think it's May 2nd. So we're not rushing that. We're taking our time, and we'll have a plan in place." Carolina selected Ekwonu, a Matthews, N.C. native and North Carolina State University standout, with the sixth overall pick in 2022. In the three seasons since, he's started each of his 49 games for the team on their blindside. 2024 marked Ekwonu's best pro campaign, at least according to Pro Football Focus. The 24-year-old earned career-highs in his overall offensive grade (71.7) and his run-blocking grade (80.5) while posting a 95.9-percent efficiency rate in pass protection. Given Ekwonu's performance and the value of the left tackle position, the Panthers should be expected to trigger that fifth-year option in the coming weeks. Frontrunner for Panthers' 2025 1st-round pick reportedly suffers setback in training

Frontrunner for Panthers' 2025 1st-round pick reportedly suffers setback in training The Carolina Panthers, and the rest of the NFL, will have to continue to wait on University of Georgia linebacker Jalon Walker. According to ESPN NFL draft and college football analyst Jordan Reid, Walker sustained a quad strain during training and is not expected to participate in Georgia's upcoming pro day on Wednesday, March 12. The Salisbury, N.C. native, per Reid, is planning to hold a private workout for NFL teams on April 17. Walker also did not participate in the on-field workouts at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine this past week. He was, however, a brief topic of discussion for Panthers president of football operations/general manager Dan Morgan—who was asked if he sees the All-American defender as more of a pass rusher or an off-ball linebacker. "Yeah, I don't know how most teams see him," Morgan told reporters last Tuesday. "I know he's a talented player, there's a lot of talented players in this draft. He's just one of many." Morgan then stated that he would keep his thoughts on Walker's positional fit "close to the vest."
