Can you imagine The Office without John Krasinski? 5 actors who almost quit acting before their big break

What if Jim Halpert wasn't played by John Krasinski? Or Sookie St. James wasn't Melissa McCarthy? It's a Black Mirror-level thought experiment - one that reminds us how close we came to losing some of Hollywood's most iconic characters. Can you imagine The Office without John Krasinski as Jim Halpert smirking across the desk from Dwight Schrute?(x/@krasinskiupdate) Believe it or not, many of today's biggest names in film and TV once stood on the edge of giving up acting altogether. The rejections, the failed auditions, the bills - it was all becoming too much. But just before they walked away for good, fate threw them a lifeline. Here are five stars who almost quit before catching their big break: John Krasinski as Jim Halpert in the hit sitcom The Office.(x/@krasinskiupdate) John Krasinski Before becoming everyone's favorite paper salesman on The Office, Krasinski had decided to quit acting. In a now-viral story, he revealed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that he called his mom from New York, ready to give up and head back to Massachusetts to become an English teacher. She encouraged him to stick it out until the end of the year - and three weeks later, he booked The Office. The rest is sitcom history. That quirky, lovable chef launched her into the mainstream - and laid the foundation for a blockbuster comedy career. Henry Cavill as Superman in Man of Steel.(x/@Starman6986) Henry Cavill He looked the part, but casting directors told Cavill he wasn't 'a big enough name.' Not bad for someone Hollywood nearly overlooked. Amy Adams as Giselle in Enchanted.(x/@TheCinesthetic) Amy Adams By her early 30s, Amy Adams had been grinding through auditions and indie roles with little payoff. She had just wrapped Junebug and gave herself a final push - one last round of auditions. That decision led to Enchanted, and as she filmed, Junebug earned her an Oscar nomination. From burnout to breakthrough in a heartbeat. Each of these stars stared down failure and rejection - and nearly walked away. But they stayed just a little longer. And thank god they did. Their stories are a masterclass in perseverance - and proof that sometimes, the big break is just one audition away.

Why Jesse Eisenberg rejected 'Social Network 2' role? Who will play Mark Zuckerberg now

'The Social Network Part 2' will see a major casting upset with Jesse Eisenberg not reprising the role of Facebook co-founder, Mark Zuckerberg. Jesse Eisenberg played Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network, the 2010 biopic of the Facebook co-founder.(X/@TheCinesthetic) The movie is a sequel to David Fincher's Oscar-winning 2010 biopic about Mark Zuckerberg and how Facebook came to be. Aaron Sorkin, who wrote the first scrip, returns to lend his talent to the sequel as well. Why Jesse Eisenberg won't return as Mark Zuckerberg? Eisenberg, known for movies like Now You See Me, has passed on the chance to play Zuckerberg, The Hollywood Reporter said, but suggested that this may be a 'negotiation tactic'. Eisenberg, meanwhile, is 41, and would have to play a character at least a decade younger than him. The film, announced to be in active development in June, is set to take place years after the ending of The Social Network and follow the exposure of Facebook's inner workings and the harm the company has caused. This would mean the movie is likely set in 2021, when Horowitz's The Facebook Files articles, came out. The movie could also take a look at the years leading up to it. Zuckerberg, in real life, was in his mid thirties at the time. Anora's Mikey Madison and The Bear's Jeremy Allen White are reportedly in talks to play Frances Haugen, the whistleblower, and Wall Street Journal tech reporter Jeff Horowitz, respectively. Who could play Mark Zuckerberg? As per Deadline, Jeremy Strong of Succession fame could be tapped to play Zuckerberg. However, this casting doesn't make much sense, because Strong is 46 – older than Eisenberg, who passed up on the chance to step into the shoes of Zuckerberg. Having said that, Strong's experience from works like The Apprentice, set him up nicely to portray the Meta chairman.

Ana de Armas wants kids ‘soon': As Tom Cruise romance rumors soar, Cuban actress opens up about love, life and longing

Amid rising rumors of a romance with Tom Cruise, Ana de Armas has opened up about her desire to become a mother soon. In an interview with F Magazine, she emphasized that love and relationships are unpredictable, stating her protective instincts toward children fuel her longing for family life. (Images: X/@TheCinesthetic, @TCNews62) In a heartfelt revelation that has added fuel to swirling rumors about her relationship with Tom Cruise, Ana de Armas recently opened up about her desire to start a family. The Cuban-Spanish actress, known for her fierce performances and striking vulnerability on screen, told F Magazine , 'Yes, I would like to have children and a family, soon if possible.' But, she added with poignant realism, 'It doesn't just depend on me. As we know, love is unpredictable. You never know when true love will come. Relationships can't be controlled: life is not a movie.' Yet, as life imitates art, her real-life narrative has all the markings of a dramatic romance. The Ballerina star has been seen on multiple occasions with Tom Cruise, sparking speculation about a blossoming love affair. From helicopter rides to dinner dates in London ahead of Ana's 37th birthday, the duo's quiet appearances have spoken louder than any official confirmation. De Armas' yearning for motherhood isn't just about starting a family—it's rooted in her instinct to protect. 'I feel an immense instinct to protect children,' she said, 'because they are defenseless and innocent beings who need adults to feel safe.' Her words speak to a deep emotional preparedness for the journey of parenthood, but one grounded in the awareness that it takes partnership and timing. In recent interviews, Ana has been candid about how misunderstood age-related expectations for women can be. Her longing for a child, coupled with her views on love, present a picture of someone grounded in hope, not fantasy. 'Many men have told me I have puppy dog eyes,' she mused in The Daily Mail . 'I give the impression of being a sweet and innocent creature, but then they're surprised, because deep down…pure and wild passion governs my choices.' — tomcruisse62 (@tomcruisse62) While Cruise and de Armas haven't confirmed their relationship, industry insiders have hinted that their bond has been growing steadily. A Blast report suggests that the duo was introduced by Penélope Cruz, who reportedly spoke highly of both. Since then, Tom Cruise has publicly praised Ana's performance in Ballerina , calling it 'incredible' at the Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning London premiere. 'It just kicks -ss,' he said, 'You're going to love it.' Ana has also confirmed that she is working on multiple projects with Cruise and directors Doug Liman and Christopher McQuarrie. 'It's not just one, but a few projects,' she teased on Good Morning America , hinting at a deepening professional and perhaps personal bond between the two. Yet, unlike her past relationships, Ana is taking a more guarded approach to her rumored romance with Cruise. Her brief but public relationship with Ben Affleck in 2020, and the intense scrutiny it brought, left a lasting impression. The same applies to her short-lived romance in 2024 with Manuel Anido Cuesta, the stepson of Cuba's president. The experience shaped her decision to keep her private life as protected as possible. Ana's previous relationship with Ben Affleck was marked by deep affection, but also irreconcilable differences. According to a PEOPLE report from 2021, Ana's desire to have children became a key point of divergence. 'She broke it off,' the source said. 'Their relationship was complicated. Ana doesn't want to be Los Angeles-based and Ben has to since his kids live in Los Angeles.' Affleck, already a father of three, wasn't ready for more children—a dealbreaker for Ana. Despite the split, sources close to the couple insisted it ended with mutual respect. 'They are both happy with where they are in their lives,' one insider said at the time. Ana's acting career continues to scale new heights. Her acclaimed portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in Netflix's Blonde won her admiration from the Monroe estate itself. Marc Rosen, President of Entertainment at Authentic Brands Group, praised her ability to embody Monroe's glamour, vulnerability, and enduring legacy. 'She knows she has big shoes to fill,' Rosen said, 'and she does so with grace.' For Ana, every role is not just a performance—it's an immersion, a commitment to living fully. As she once said, 'I want to live every moment to the fullest.' That mantra seems to echo through her personal life as well—whether it's flying under the radar with Cruise or dreaming of a future filled with love and children.

'I don't know how many times I have to correct the record': Magda Szubanski debunks 19-year-old Heath Ledger myth as viral video resurfaces

Magda Szubanski has stepped in to correct the record after an iconic red carpet clip featuring herself and the late Heath Ledger was mistakenly shared as a real-life fan encounter. The video, from the 2006 Australian Film Institute Awards (now the AACTAs), resurfaced online this week and quickly went viral after being reposted by popular pop culture accounts Internet Hall of Fame and The Cinesthetic. In the clip, Ledger, nominated that year for Candy, is mid-interview when Szubanski appears in character as Sharon Strzelecki from Kath & Kim. Spotting the Hollywood star, Sharon goes into full fangirl mode, screaming and fainting after Ledger responds by planting a kiss on her mouth. While fans of Kath & Kim recognised the bit instantly, others were less familiar- with some social media users mistakenly thinking the woman in the clip was a random fan being ambushed by the actor. "Never forget the time Heath Ledger sexually assaulted a fan," one person wrote, while another added, "Woah that's assault brotha!" Szubanski, 64, quickly took to social media to set the record straight. "I don't know how many times I have to correct the record and tell people it's not some rando fan!!" she wrote on X. "It's me, @MagdaSzubanski as my character Sharon Strzelecki from Aussie sitcom Kath and Kim!! "That said, Heath had no idea 'Sharon' was gonna scream like that and he responded like a true Sharon fan. "He pashed her! I'll describe this incident in detail another time Beautiful #heath." Support quickly poured in for the beloved comedian, with fans praising her for her humour and fondly remembering the moment. "You are so wonderful Magda. Thank you for the many, many, many laughs. This one brought tears of laughter," one fan wrote, while another added, "This will go down in history as one of the funniest moments on TV." Others paid tribute to Ledger, who tragically died on January 22, 2008, less than two years after the skit was filmed. "What a loss, thank you for sharing," one fan wrote, adding a broken heart emoji. Another said: "I love this so much. He was such a beautiful young man." The AFI Awards red carpet moment also featured Dannii Minogue, with Szubanski posing between the Aussie singer and Ledger, both women wearing matching green dresses. Sharon's infamous "pash rash" was also on full display- a staple of her character's love life mishaps. The sports-obsessed second-best friend of Kim had no shortage of iconic love interests over the years, including the late Aussie cricket legend Shane Warne, who appeared in the final episode as a Warnie impersonator who ends up marrying Strzelecki.
