Roger Waters Rocks Back Onto The Charts With A Highly-Anticipated New Album

Roger Waters' The Dark Side of the Moon Redux live edition returns to four U.K. charts, driven by a ... More Record Store Day vinyl exclusive. LONDON, ENGLAND - JUNE 06: Roger Waters performs on stage at The O2 Arena during the 'This is Not A Drill' tour, on June 06, 2023 in London, England. (Photo by) Roger Waters surprised many in the music industry when he announced plans to re-record The Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd's defining masterpiece. As the former member of the pioneering rock outfit reimagined the iconic project, fans were understandably curious — and many were more than a little skeptical. The result, dubbed The Dark Side of the Moon Redux, dropped in October 2023, offering an altered, introspective take on one of rock's most celebrated collections. That version became a quick hit in the United Kingdom, and now, Waters is back on the charts thanks to a live rendition of the effort. The Dark Side of the Moon Redux reemerges and jumps back onto four charts in that country. While not everyone loved the reworking, this week's success is a clear sign that there's still considerable interest in Waters's updated take on the legendary set. While it's not new to any of the rankings it sits on at the moment, it also wasn't present on any of them just days ago. The live version lands highest on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart, where it returns at No. 4. That placement represents the redux set's strongest showing this frame. It manages to reach No. 36 on the Official Vinyl Albums ranking and narrowly misses the top 40 on two additional rosters. The Dark Side of the Moon Redux reenters at No. 44 on the Official Physical Albums tally and No. 45 on the Official Albums Sales list. The Dark Side of the Moon Redux previously reached No. 1 on all four of the charts it revisits this week. Of the quartet, the Official Rock & Metal Albums ranking has been the most welcoming. Waters's revision of the classic collection has now appeared on that tally 14 times – more than any of the others. Its showing on the Official Vinyl Albums chart is less impressive. This latest appearance marks just its fourth frame on that particular list, which tracks the bestselling vinyl titles in the U.K. The latest version of The Dark Side of the Moon is more than just a reissue — it's a live recording, pressed on eye-catching neon pink wax and released for Record Store Day. The performance featured on the vinyl comes from Waters' two sold-out concerts at the London Palladium in October 2023. At the time, the album was still brand new, and fans were eager to experience it in person. This wax pressing constitutes the only live version of Redux currently available.

Roger Waters And Pink Floyd Battle It Out On The Charts

Pink Floyd's legacy is almost unparalleled in the rock world. The group has remained a staple on charts in the U.K. for decades, with several of its most iconic albums consistently ranking among the bestselling in its genre. One list in particular, the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart, almost always includes at least one of the band's full-lengths. This week, Pink Floyd isn't the only act from the group's storied history that appears. For the first time in a while, one of its members is also present — and in a surprising twist, the soloist wins. Both Roger Waters and Pink Floyd appear on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart this frame, and it's the soloist who earns the higher position. Waters is present with one release, while his former band finds success with two separate titles, including a new winner. Still, the band lags behind the musician who helped build its reputation, and the powerful sellers are more closely connected than casual fans might expect. Waters returns to the U.K. genre-specific ranking this week with The Dark Side of the Moon Redux. The album is a reimagined version of Pink Floyd's legendary The Dark Side of the Moon, and reenters the chart at No. 4. The artistic reinterpretation, which has previously climbed all the way to No. 1, is now up to 13 total frames spent somewhere on the tally. Even as Waters brings his updated edition of the title back to the ranking, the original continues to hold on. The Dark Side of the Moon – the version that helped establish Pink Floyd as one of the most inventive names in rock music – only dips slightly this week. It slips from No. 13 to No. 14 on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart. That's barely a major decline, and with 652 weeks now spent on the list, it's clear the set isn't going anywhere anytime soon. In addition to appearing with The Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd also scores a new hit with a different, just-released title. To Control Space - Live 1969 opens at No. 28 on the same ranking, giving the group its fiftieth placement on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart.

Roger Waters Is Back As Fans Can't Get Enough Of His (Former) Band's Masterpiece

Roger Waters' The Dark Side of the Moon Redux returns to four U.K. charts, while the original album ... More continues its own impressive run. GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - JUNE 02: Roger Waters performs on stage at The OVO Hydro on June 02, 2023 in Glasgow, Scotland. (Photo by Roberto Ricciuti/Redferns) Pink Floyd has never faded away on the charts, thanks primarily – but not exclusively – to one of the bestselling albums of all time. This week, the legendary band is once again found on the U.K. rankings. Decades after the group reshaped rock music, its most iconic release is climbing the ranks once more — alongside a newer take from one of its founding members. While The Dark Side of the Moon continues to sell and stream well, Roger Waters celebrates his own chart wins with his reinterpretation of that same classic, The Dark Side of the Moon Redux. This week, The Dark Side of the Moon Redux is back on four different rankings across the U.K., proving there's still major demand for any version of Pink Floyd's legendary album. Among the four rankings it appears on this frame, The Dark Side of the Moon Redux climbs into the top 10 on half of them. It performs best on the Official Rock & Metal Albums list, where it rockets back to No. 4. The release also returns to the Official Vinyl Albums tally, coming in at No. 9. The same release also makes it into the top 20 on two other U.K. rankings focused on purchases. The Dark Side of the Moon Redux settles at No. 17 on the Official Physical Albums chart and appears just behind that at No. 18 on the Official Album Sales roster. While its current success is impressive, it's worth noting that The Dark Side of the Moon Redux has already reached the top of each of the four charts it returns to this week. The set has now spent 13 frames somewhere on the Official Rock & Metal Albums ranking, seven periods on both the Official Album Sales and Official Physical Albums lists, and just three on the Official Vinyl Albums chart. A super deluxe box set of The Dark Side of the Moon Redux dropped on March 14. The expanded edition includes the studio recording, live renditions of every track from Waters' October 2023 performances at the London Palladium, exclusive Blu-rays, a gold vinyl pressing, and even a track-by-track interview. All of that has clearly enticed collectors and superfans, many of whom are eager to experience every facet of the ambitious project. Waters released The Dark Side of the Moon Redux in October 2023 to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the original album's release. While some fans and critics questioned the need for a solo reinterpretation, the numbers show there's still a huge appetite for his take. This week, the original version of The Dark Side of the Moon is also present on four U.K. charts, as both editions have carved out meaningful space with listeners.
