West Virginia commit Treysen Eaglestaff withdraws from 2025 NBA draft

West Virginia commit Treysen Eaglestaff withdraws from 2025 NBA draft North Dakota junior transfer Treysen Eaglestaff will reportedly withdraw from the 2025 NBA draft and return to school next season, according to Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68. Eaglestaff was named to the All-Summit League second team this past season, averaging 18.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals on 35.9% shooting from 3-point range. He ranked second in the conference in points (623) and third in 3s (84). The 6-foot-6 guard set a Summit League tournament record with 51 points on March 7 in a win over South Dakota State. He was the first player to score at least 50 points in a game since Houston Baptist guard Darius Lee had 52 points on March 5, 2022. Eaglestaff entered the transfer portal last month while also declaring for the draft. He was among the 106 players who filed as early entry candidates for the draft and attended one team workout with the Portland Trail Blazers earlier this month. He initially committed to South Carolina after a brief time in the portal. He eventually changed course and opted to play for new coach Ross Hodge and West Virginia after three years with the Fighting Hawks, a pact that was announced on April 22. Eaglestaff will now be able to move to the Big 12 and continue his career. He projects to be a key addition for the Mountaineers as they begin a new era under Hodge.

Longhorns QB Arch Manning asks new Texas basketball coach Sean Miller for a favor

Longhorns QB Arch Manning asks new Texas basketball coach Sean Miller for a favor Sean Miller has been the head basketball coach at the University of Texas for a couple of a months now. He's still getting to know everyone on campus ... including Arch Manning. Manning ran into the new coach and ask for a perk. In a recent podcast interview with Jeff Goodman, Miller said after the usual pleasantries, Manning asked for some 'special treatment.' The new Longhorns starter wants to play pick-up basketball games on the Longhorns practice court. "I was walking across the street last week and somebody yelled my name: 'Coach Miller! Coach Miller!' I turned around, and it was Arch Manning," Miller told Jeff Goodman on The Field of 68. "He's a huge basketball fan. We came together, and he said, 'Welcome to Texas. I'm a big basketball fan.' He was with a couple of his friends. He said, 'Hey, do you mind if we sneak in and play pickup once in a while?' That was his question for me, and I said, 'Anytime, anytime. Whatever you do, don't get hurt.' I'm really excited about watching SEC football live at Texas. There's a lot of excitement here at Texas for the next six months." A two-sports athlete in high school, Manning played three years of varsity basketball at Isidore Newman in New Orleans. He also was a four-year starting quarterback for the football team. On the court, the 6-foot-4 forward averaged 2.7 points and 2.8 rebounds in 25 games off the bench as a junior in 2021-22, his final season of high school ball. Isidore Newman won Division III boys basketball state championship at the end of Manning's junior season, beating Lafayette Christian 56-47. In the state final, Manning came off the bench and scored zero points, had one turnover and one foul. Newman didn't win the football Louisiana state title while Manning as the QB. Manning was seen at several Texas Longhorns basketball games last year with teammate/friend Michael Taaffe. And while Manning has basketball in his background, it's a good bet new football teammate Jonah Williams will be the only two-sport star at Texas this year. Follow us on X/Twitter at @LonghornsWire.

Florida basketball's Thomas Haugh expected to start at small forward in 2025 season

Florida basketball's Thomas Haugh expected to start at small forward in 2025 season Florida basketball head coach Todd Golden made it clear during a Monday appearance on The Field of 68 podcast: Thomas Haugh is stepping into a major role for the Florida Gators next season. Golden revealed that Haugh is expected to start at the three-spot for the Gators next season–provided forward Alex Condon returns for his junior year. "Tommy (Haugh) is the consummate teammate, the consummate winner," Golden said. "He came off the bench for us, and then when Condo (Condon) went down with an (ankle injury) in the middle of the year, he stepped into a starting role and played fantastic. And obviously, Tommy didn't start for us but he finished most games for us." Haugh, a 6-foot-9-inch forward from New Oxford, Pennsylvania, averaged 9.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 40 games played during the 2024-25 season. He shot 48.5 percent from the floor and 34 percent from three-point range. Haugh also logged incredible performances late in the season, including a career-high 20 points and 11 rebounds against Texas Tech during the NCAA Tournament. Golden noted that if Condon returns, the Gators plan to start Haugh at the three, Condon at the four and rotate on of their bigs at the five to create matchup problems for opponents. "We hope that we get (Tommy's) running mate back (Condon), and if we do, we'll start Tommy at the three, Condo at the four and of the other bigs at the five, and try to overpower people a little bit," Golden added. "Tommy, he's a definite NBA player. I'm really glad and fortunate that he's coming back for sure for the Gators next year." Haugh, who posted double figures in 22 games this season and recorded five double-doubles, is expected to be one of Florida's top two-way players next season as the Gators push for another deep NCAA Tournament run.
