Civil servants watch porn & Netflix on SNP government laptops ‘while WFH'

The number of times staff tried to view porn sites has been revealed SOME of Scotland's civil servants have been watching Netflix and accessing porn websites on their official government laptops, new figures reveal Government staff - most of whom were working from home - have streamed their favourite Netflix shows so many times in the past six months that officials say the number of attempts to log onto the streaming channel is too high to calculate. 3 Civil servants have tried to view porn and Netflix on Scottish Government laptops while working from home Credit: Alamy 3 Figures revealed staff were trying to stream shows on Netflix Credit: Alamy Since November, there have been six attempts to access Pornhub, six attempts to access Betfair and four attempts to access Paddy Power on Scottish Government devices, the Mail on Sunday reports. The shocking figures emerged days after a row over a new drive to get Scottish civil servants back into the office. First Minister John Swinney said he approved of making officials work at least two days at their desks to boost productivity. However the plan for an average 40 per cent attendance provoked a backlash from staff working from home. The latest revelations follow Health Secretary Michael Matheson having to resign after he racked up an £11,000 bill on his work iPad while abroad on a family holiday - and charged it to the public purse, before he resigned his position and agreed to pay it back. The latest revelations have been blasted by critics who said staff should be 'sacked' if caught accessing porn on government devices. Benjamin Elks, of the TaxPayers' Alliance said: 'Scottish taxpayers will be rightly disgusted to see what their civil servants have been up to. 'It's clear that these pen-pushers have too much time on their hands as they work at home, failing to deliver for hard-working Scots. 'Anyone caught using government devices to access pornography should be sacked without hesitation.' The new statistics, obtained by the Scottish Conservatives, follow public backlash over the number of civil servants still working from home despite the pandemic ending years ago. Netflix to rival ITV's The Fortune Hotel as it launches brand new game show with an eye-watering prize Some workers have been told they only need to attend their offices one day a week, although the official expectation is for them to attend for two. The work from home culture has had a major impact on the vitality of town centres, with many shops, bars and restaurants reliant on trade from office workers. A Scottish Government spokesman said: 'Any attempt to access, download, display, store or distribute pornographic, racist or other offensive material, or material relating to illegal activities is considered a disciplinary matter, as outlined in the Scottish Government's IT Code of Conduct. 'Action is taken in line with Scottish Government disciplinary policy where concerns are identified. 'Scottish Government staff can use devices for personal use if this is within their own time, for example during the weekend or a lunch break. 'This is subject to restrictions on certain activities such as running a personal website or attempting to access inappropriate material online. 'The Scottish Government has in place recruitment and workforce controls to reduce its workforce size.'

ITV's Genius Game in huge shake up just weeks after launch as episodes are pulled from schedules

ITV show Genius Game has found itself hit by a huge schedule shake-up after bombing in the ratings. The programme, fronted by David Tennant, launched to much fanfare and hype but has become one of ITV's lowest-performing shows in recent years. 3 Genius Game has been pulled from screens after being a ratings flop Credit: ITV 3 The show will now air just once a week Credit: ITV Originally scheduled to air every Wednesday and Thursday in the primetime 9pm slot, ITV execs have now stripped the Thursday episode in order to air it just once a week. It means the programme will now continue on just Wednesdays over the next six weeks. Last week, a mere 800,000 people tuned into the programme - one of ITV's lowest 9pm figures. Another of ITV's latest commissions, The Fortune Hotel, managed to bring in just shy of 2.5million viewers for one episode last year - a stark difference to the seemingly doomed fortune of Genius Game. Over on the BBC, Race Across The World, which airs in the same timeslot as Genius Game, thrashed the programme when it came to viewers - achieving a new series peak of 5.9million viewers. Fan complaints were rife from the start with many arguing the show's format was too complicated. One viewer said "bye bye" just 10 minutes into the show. As another person said: "I MUST stop giving up on things too quickly but honestly, ten minutes in and I'm getting annoyed by #GeniusGame." Before a third then penned: "Bit boring, very confusing, turned it off." The new series is adapted from a South Korean format as it brings together a few of the country's most clever and sharp minds. Mortified Alex Jones apologises to David Tennant on The One Show after he calls her out for dropping huge spoiler In the show, contestants participate in a selection of never-before-seen games. The games are "all designed to not only test their intellectual acumen but encourage them to carefully and creatively use the art of manipulation to outfox their opponents and win a cash prize". With 11 players who are all extremely intellectual and clever, the game comprises of 12 rounds before a winner is crowned. Each round consists of a main match and a death match. And each player takes part in the main match before a winner and eliminated player is determined. Those who win the main match receive a Token of Life, which grants them immunity from the death match. The player who places last in the main match will then choose another player to face in the death match. The Sun has contacted ITV for comment.

Big budget reality show returning to screens this summer despite sparking explosive fakery row and string of fan complaints

A big budget reality show is set to return to screens this summer despite sparking a fakery row and a string of complaints from fans. The Fortune Hotel, presented by Stephen Mangan, 56, sees its participants lie to each other and figure out who the betrayers are as they stay in a luxury Caribbean resort and try to win a whopping £250,000. It will make a TV comeback this summer with eight episodes scheduled to air across four weeks. However, the ITV show was hit with backlash during the previous season when viewers questioned if some scenes were 'scripted'. During the show, contestants were given an Early Checkout Card if they are at risk of leaving. They can switch cases with their competitors by completing challenges, meaning they hand over the card to someone else, and even get hold of the luggage that carries the huge prize fund. But some viewers noticed that in a couple of instances, the players with the card won a daily task, which they argued could be 'staged', according to The Sun. Fans took to social media last year to share their theory and posted: 'I noticed this a few nights ago. 'This is beginning to seem very scripted & staged. I think to spice the show up in the future they should some nights force all contestants to swap cases regardless. It's becoming boring.' 'So YET AGAIN everything that happens, happens to the people with the card and the money. Come on now, it's way beyond a coincidence now.' 'This is starting to feel scripted.' The show was also hit with complaints from fans who accused it of being 'boring' and a 'carbon copy' of BBC's hit The Traitors. Last year, just three episodes into the series, TV buffs were left less than impressed and took to X to share their disappointment. One penned: 'I'm beginning to lose interest if I'm honest #FortuneHotel' 'It's a bit s*** innit #FortuneHotel Fans took to social media last year to share their theory on X 'Sorry managed 2 1/2 episodes switched back to race across the world #FortuneHotel' 'This programme should be electric on paper, so why am I just a bit bored? #FortuneHotel #TheFortuneHotel' 'just can't get on board with #FortuneHotel, it's SO me but nah' The Fortune Hotel airs on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
