ITV's Genius Game in huge shake up just weeks after launch as episodes are pulled from schedules

Scottish Sun07-05-2025
ITV show Genius Game has found itself hit by a huge schedule shake-up after bombing in the ratings.
The programme, fronted by David Tennant, launched to much fanfare and hype but has become one of ITV's lowest-performing shows in recent years.

Originally scheduled to air every Wednesday and Thursday in the primetime 9pm slot, ITV execs have now stripped the Thursday episode in order to air it just once a week.
It means the programme will now continue on just Wednesdays over the next six weeks.
Last week, a mere 800,000 people tuned into the programme - one of ITV's lowest 9pm figures.
Another of ITV's latest commissions, The Fortune Hotel, managed to bring in just shy of 2.5million viewers for one episode last year - a stark difference to the seemingly doomed fortune of Genius Game.
Over on the BBC, Race Across The World, which airs in the same timeslot as Genius Game, thrashed the programme when it came to viewers - achieving a new series peak of 5.9million viewers.
Fan complaints were rife from the start with many arguing the show's format was too complicated.
One viewer said "bye bye" just 10 minutes into the show.
As another person said: "I MUST stop giving up on things too quickly but honestly, ten minutes in and I'm getting annoyed by #GeniusGame."
Before a third then penned: "Bit boring, very confusing, turned it off."
The new series is adapted from a South Korean format as it brings together a few of the country's most clever and sharp minds.
Mortified Alex Jones apologises to David Tennant on The One Show after he calls her out for dropping huge spoiler
In the show, contestants participate in a selection of never-before-seen games.
The games are "all designed to not only test their intellectual acumen but encourage them to carefully and creatively use the art of manipulation to outfox their opponents and win a cash prize".
With 11 players who are all extremely intellectual and clever, the game comprises of 12 rounds before a winner is crowned.
Each round consists of a main match and a death match.
And each player takes part in the main match before a winner and eliminated player is determined.
Those who win the main match receive a Token of Life, which grants them immunity from the death match.
The player who places last in the main match will then choose another player to face in the death match.
The Sun has contacted ITV for comment.

Rescue of Scots paddleboarder, ten, to feature in BBC documentary

The rescue of a ten-year-old boy by North Berwick lifeboat crews is to feature in a BBC series. Saving Lives at Sea showcases the work of RNLI crews throughout the UK and Ireland as they respond to everything from sinking ships to tidal cut-offs and kayakers in distress. In the forthcoming episode, which will be broadcast on BBC Two, a ten-year-old boy is swept out to sea on a paddleboard in North Berwick. His parents rush out to try and save him, but all three of them begin struggling in the water. Volunteer helm, Fraser Fulton, along with sibling crew members Steven and Vikki Selby, race to their rescue. Vikki, a volunteer crew member at North Berwick, said: 'I'm thrilled that North Berwick features again in such a long-running and respected series alongside our fellow lifesavers from across the RNLI. 'For my family, it'll be an extra exciting episode as my brother Steven was also on the lifeboat for this rescue, so we'll both be on the TV. 'When the public visits the station, we hear how much they appreciate a chance to see how their generous donations are used to help save lives. We are incredibly grateful for their support, as it is what we rely on to save lives at sea.' The episode will air on Thursday, August 7, 8pm on BBC Two and iPlayer. Jack Osbourne's relatively unknown siblings as he returns to TV

Jack Osbourne's relatively unknown siblings as he returns to TV As the Osbourne family mourn the loss of their beloved husband and father, Ozzy Osbourne, we take a look at his relationships with his six children The Osbourne family is mourning the loss of their beloved patriarch, Ozzy Osbourne, who sadly passed away at the age of 76 on 22 July. ‌ The cause of death has not been confirmed, but it's known that the Black Sabbath frontman had been battling Parkinson's disease since February 2019, which significantly impacted his health in recent years. ‌ As they grapple with their loss, Ozzy's youngest son, Jack, is set to return to television just days after his father's passing, as he competes in the fifth series of ITV's celebrity cooking competition, Cooking with the Stars. ‌ The show, hosted by Emma Willis and Tom Allen, was pre-recorded before Ozzy's untimely death. Jack will compete against a host of celebrities including Love Island star Ekin-Su, EastEnders actress Natalie Cassidy and former footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips. Each celebrity is paired with a culinary expert who guides them through each round. However, those with the lowest scores face a cook-off and receive no help from their mentors, who can only watch from the sidelines. In a cruel twist, the mentors of those in the bottom two will have to participate in a blind taste test to decide who progresses to the next round, potentially sending their own protege home. Throughout Ozzy's life, unbeknownst to many, the rockstar actually fathered six children, meaning that Jack has five other siblings - not just Kelly, who is widely recognised as his sister from their time together on MTV's At Home with the Osbournes. Before Sharon and Ozzy tied the knot, the Black Sabbath legend had been previously married. He met his first wife Thelma Riley in a Birmingham nightclub before they exchanged vows and welcomed two biological children together, Jessica, 53, and Louis, 50. Sharon and Ozzy are parents to Aimee, Kelly and Jack (Image: Getty) ‌ Thelma was also the mother of five year old Elliot from a previous relationship when she met the lead singer. Ozzy would later adopt Elliot and raise him as his own. However, the three children do not have fond childhood memories with their daredevil father and in a 2011 documentary (produced by Jack Osbourne) when Ozzy is asked about Louis and Jessica's birthdays, he fails to remember when each of them were born. In the same series, Louis revealed details about growing up with Ozzy: "When he was around and he wasn't [drunk], he was a great father. But that was kind of rare, really. I just have a lot of memories of him being drunk, random s**t like driving cars across fields and crashing them in the middle of the night and stuff like that. "It's not good for family life, really," he explained in the documentary. His elder sister, Jessica also remarked: "I don't remember being put to bed or having a bath by dad or anything like that. I wouldn't say he was there for us, no, never on sports day, school trip, parents' evening. He wasn't like that, no." ‌ The Osbourne family is actually much bigger than most would think (Image: Getty) In 1982, Ozzy and Thelma divorced and that same year he wed Sharon, who was his manager at the time. Twelve months later, they had their first daughter Aimee on September 2nd 1983, followed by their second daughter Kelly on October 27, 1984. They eventually had their youngest child, Jack on November 8, 1985. Whilst many admirers know two of Sharon and Ozzy's offspring - Jack and Kelly - Aimee chose to stay out of the spotlight when the former X Factor panellist decided to allow MTV's cameras into her house. Refusing to participate in filming, she left the family residence in the early 2000s to follow her own musical ambitions, performing under her initials ARO. ‌ In a previous chat with the Independent, she looked back on her choice to step away. She confessed to the magazine: "Back then, I still felt I was trying to figure out who I was in the chaos of family life, so why on earth would I want that portrayed on television? I wanted to protect myself, my parents, my siblings, too. They were very young, very impressionable." In a 2008 interview with the same publication, Aimee defended her decision, saying: "I'm not some weirdo depressed daughter that's afraid of the world and locks herself in her room all day. I just didn't choose to do the show. I want to be a singer, and I felt if I'd stayed with the Osbournes and done the whole thing I would have been typecast right away. "[Sharon] was hurt, and we definitely had a tough time with disagreements. I'm more reserved and my private life is very important." Article continues below In 2021, it emerged that Sharon's two daughters were actually estranged from one another. Discussing her relationship with Aimee on the Dax Shepard podcast, Kelly admitted: "We don't talk. We're just really different. She doesn't understand me and I don't understand her." Despite the tension between the two sisters, it appears that Aimee has a much stronger bond with her younger brother Jack, as they both co-run the production company Osbourne Media together. Cooking with the Stars kicks off on Sunday, August 3 at 8pm on ITV1.

But cancer shifts your perspective. "This year I've been incredibly lucky with new job opportunities which have been full on but so rewarding and I can't wait to share all to you very soon. So having time to slow down isn't just okay – it's essential. ‌ "These past few days have been the perfect reset and I'm heading into the new season feeling recharged, happy, stronger, and HEALTHIER than ever." Amy went on to share some good news about her twin sister as she told her followers: "Also bursting with pride for my sister @becky_dowden – she was accepted into her master's program in midwifery while we were away (yes, while still working full-time in the NHS!). "I'm so proud of her and loved treating her to a well-deserved break." She concluded her lengthy caption by sharing her excitement for the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing. Amy gushed: "Feeling grateful, grounded, and SO excited for @bbcstrictly rehearsals to start tomorrow. Year 9 – let's go."
