New York Giants' Theo Johnson addresses 'unfinished business' with Abdul Carter
Former Penn State teammates, tight end Theo Johnson and edge rusher Abdul Carter, were reunited when the New York Giants took the latter at No. 3 overall in the 2025 NFL draft back in April.
At the time, Johnson credited Carter with bringing "a lot of juice" along with his elite athleticism.
"I can say the same for him," said Carter of Johnson after being drafted. "We used to go at it at practice all the time and in the games. Us two going at it, we both dominated in the game. He's in New York now, I'm going to meet him there. We're going to be going at it in practice. It's going to be all love. It's going to be dope."
Whatever happened between the two at State College has left both players ready to resume their friendly and fiery competition.
"We got into it a lot being on different sides of the ball," Carter said during the pre-draft process. "But my last game, he just came up to me and gave me his respect. He has my respect. I like Theo.
"But wait until I see him again, though. We've got some unfinished business."
Johnson, not one to shy away from a challenge, welcomed Carter to the locker room and then picked up right where they had left off.
"It's just two high-level competitors going in every day. We both took practice very seriously, and we were both alpha dogs on opposite sides of the ball, so things can get tense; can get heated," Johnson said on The Giants Huddle Podcast. "But at the end of the day, we're both competitors (and) we both respect each other as competitors. We pushed each other."
Like Carter, Johnson expressed a respect for his teammate and credited the edge rusher for making him a better player.
"We've definitely gotten into it, but I have a ton of respect for him, for sure," Johnson said.
Iron sharpens iron, and the competition between Johnson and Carter can only mean good things for the Giants.
