New York Giants' Theo Johnson addresses 'unfinished business' with Abdul Carter

USA Today14 hours ago
Former Penn State teammates, tight end Theo Johnson and edge rusher Abdul Carter, were reunited when the New York Giants took the latter at No. 3 overall in the 2025 NFL draft back in April.
At the time, Johnson credited Carter with bringing "a lot of juice" along with his elite athleticism.
"I can say the same for him," said Carter of Johnson after being drafted. "We used to go at it at practice all the time and in the games. Us two going at it, we both dominated in the game. He's in New York now, I'm going to meet him there. We're going to be going at it in practice. It's going to be all love. It's going to be dope."
Whatever happened between the two at State College has left both players ready to resume their friendly and fiery competition.
"We got into it a lot being on different sides of the ball," Carter said during the pre-draft process. "But my last game, he just came up to me and gave me his respect. He has my respect. I like Theo.
"But wait until I see him again, though. We've got some unfinished business."
Johnson, not one to shy away from a challenge, welcomed Carter to the locker room and then picked up right where they had left off.
"It's just two high-level competitors going in every day. We both took practice very seriously, and we were both alpha dogs on opposite sides of the ball, so things can get tense; can get heated," Johnson said on The Giants Huddle Podcast. "But at the end of the day, we're both competitors (and) we both respect each other as competitors. We pushed each other."
Like Carter, Johnson expressed a respect for his teammate and credited the edge rusher for making him a better player.
"We've definitely gotten into it, but I have a ton of respect for him, for sure," Johnson said.
Iron sharpens iron, and the competition between Johnson and Carter can only mean good things for the Giants.

Arizona Cardinals DC Nick Rallis doesn't rave about Josh Sweat's pass-rush skills first

The Arizona Cardinals' biggest offseason addition in free agency was outside linebacker Josh Sweat, signing him to a four-year, $76.4 million deal. It was dubbed as the move to help fix the Cardinals' paltry pass rush. However, defensive coordinator Nick Rallis, who also was Sweat's position coach with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021-2022, Sweat's two best NFL seasons, did not cite his ability to rush the passer first when he was asked about him. Advertisement What did he note first? "I love Sweaty," he said. "He's a phenomenal person, phenomenal teammate, but the player, he's gonna bring violence in the run game, and that's ever since I've been with him. "I put on the tape when we got to Philly of the year before and I said, 'Holy cow, this guy can set an edge.'" Yes, the Cardinals need better pass rushing. However, they were a bad against the run. Fellow outside linebacker Zaven Collins, who has become a great run defender, now is joined by Sweat, about whom Rallis raved. But Sweat gives the Cardinals more. Advertisement "On top of that, he can get after the passer," Rallis said. "So that's ultimately what you want out of that position. You want a guy who collapses edges in the run game and gets after the passer in the pass game. So I'm excited to link back up with him." Team USA and Jasper Johnson dominate Jordan at FIBA U19 World Cup

Team USA is on fire at the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup, showcasing an electrifying performance that leaves fans buzzing. With an unblemished 3-0 record in the group stages, they stormed into the Round of 16, taking on Jordan in a game that was nothing short of spectacular. From the opening tip-off, it was clear: this was going to be a one-sided affair. The final score? A jaw-dropping 140-57 victory for Team USA. Jordan briefly flirted with the lead at 3-2, but that fleeting moment was quickly extinguished as Team USA unleashed a relentless barrage of scoring and athleticism. The game featured highlight-reel dunks and dynamic plays that had spectators on their feet. In fact, the Americans shattered records left and right, setting new all-time highs with 59 field goals made, including 52 two-pointers, alongside an astonishing 31 steals and a staggering efficiency rating of 212. They also broke their own scoring record with 140 points—the second-highest total in U19 World Cup history—while racking up 41 assists and forcing 37 turnovers, both standing as the second-best marks ever recorded in the tournament. Among those dazzling on the court was Kentucky's Jasper Johnson, who returned to action looking sharp and confident after nursing a minor shooting hand injury during the latter half of Tuesday's matchup. In just 16 minutes, he tallied 8 points, 2 rebounds, an assist, and a block—shooting an impressive 3-of-6 from the field, including two three-pointers that had fans roaring. Johnson's standout moment came when he executed a half-court steal that transitioned beautifully into an assist for a teammate's score. The game belonged to Team USA as every player contributed to the scoreboard—each of the twelve players notched at least three points. Leading the charge was blue-chip forward and one of Kentucky's top prospects, Tryan Stokes, who made history as he recorded the first-ever triple-double in U19 World Cup history with an eye-popping stat line of 19 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists, and seven steals. Joining him in making significant contributions were fellow five-star prospects Jordan Smith Jr., Brandon McCoy, and Caleb Holt—each adding 13 points to this remarkable offensive display. Looking ahead, Team USA has their sights set on the quarterfinals against Canada—who recently defeated Mali with a solid performance of their own (100-75). The Canadians will bring their own star power to Lausanne Arena in Switzerland, led by SEC standout and Florida Gator, Olivier Rioux, towering at an impressive 7-foot-8. The quarterfinal showdown is scheduled for Friday at 11:15 AM ET and can be streamed live on the FIBA YouTube Channel. With Team USA riding high off this monumental win against Jordan, basketball enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating what promises to be another thrilling matchup.
