SUPERMAN Reportedly Playing It Safer After Test Screenings; and Is James Gunn Butting Heads With HBO? — GeekTyrant
Things are reportedly shifting behind the scenes at DC Studios, and Superman seems to be at the center of it. According to a recent report, the film has gone through a major structural change after recent test screenings, and it sounds like director James Gunn might be facing unexpected friction with HBO over the DCU's future on television. Let's start with Superman . On The Hot Mic podcast, insider Jeff Sneider shared that Superman originally had a bold, episodic structure where the story unfolded across different days of the week. That idea has apparently been scrapped. As Sneider puts it: "It sounds like [DC Studios is] playing it a little safe." This lines up with earlier reports that the movie was undergoing changes in the editing room and possibly bringing in a second composer. While it's not unusual for blockbusters to evolve in post, the decision to ditch the experimental format might reflect some hesitation on the studio's part. Gunn was clearly swinging for something new, but with the weight of the DCU reboot on his shoulders, it looks like the priority is now on mass appeal. You get one shot at winning back audience trust after the chaos of the last DC era, so it makes sense that the studio would want to play it safe. I'd still love to see Gunn just be Gunn and do his thing, but there is a lot riding on this film Sneider and co-host John Rocha also floated a fun casting rumor: The Batman 's Colin Farrell could be in the running to play Brainiac. With the delay of Sgt. Rock, he may have an open slot, and Farrell's transformation in The Penguin proves he's more than capable of disappearing into a larger-than-life DC role. That's a hard pill for me to swallow because Farrell is not a fan of the the makeup process. He was very voval about how ard it was for him to shoot The Penguin series. But here's where things get really interesting. Sneider added this little bombshell: 'HBO [is] blocking Gunn's ideas for TV shows.' Apparently, HBO isn't thrilled about having shows like Lanterns , Waller , and Booster Gold pushed onto its lineup. HBO's legacy is built on prestige programming, Watchmen got the full treatment, and even The Penguin was great. I'm not sure why they'd be giving him grief over these projects. This could explain why Peacemaker Season 2 is sticking with the 'Max Original' label. The original plan was for all DCU shows to land on HBO, but that may be shifting. If the network isn't on board with superhero content flooding its roster, Max might end up being the long-term home for the DCU on TV. Gunn has ambitious plans for the DC Universe and there's still a lot to be excited about, I just hope that these reports aren't true because I want to see Gunn make the big swings and creative risks that he wants to make with the DC Cinematic Universe.

Avengers: Doomsday Rumor: Ghost Rider Could Join Cast With New Actor
Industry insiders claim that a version of Ghost Rider could potentially appear in Avengers: Doomsday. These speculations come after Disney and Marvel Studios delayed the release of Doomsday to December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars to December 17, 2027. Scooper and journalist Jeff Sneider speculated on The Hot Mic podcast that Marvel was looking for an actor to play Ghost Rider. 'I have heard this week that Marvel is casting the role of Ghost Rider,' Sneider said. After his co-host John Rocha expressed his surprise, Sneider added, 'And that's for Doomsday. I am hearing Ghost Rider is going to be in Doomsday.' This prompted Rocha to ask whether this appearance would be a fan service and Nicolas Cage would return as Johnny Blaze after portraying the character in Ghost Rider (2007) and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance (2011). Rocha also wondered whether this Ghost Rider would alternatively be a different version who would take over the mantle and eventually be part of the Midnight Sons storyline, along with Blade and others. Sneider subsequently clarified that Marvel was casting a new actor and wasn't bringing back Nicolas Cage. He explained, 'That would just be a phone call, right? This is a search.' When Rocha asked if Sneider knew whether this iteration of Ghost Rider would be Blaze or some other version, the latter admitted that he didn't. 'Ghost Rider to me is Johnny Blaze,' he elaborated. 'Are there other Ghost Riders?' After Rocha laughed and said yes, there were, Sneider responded, 'I have no idea what you're talking about right now. To me, Johnny Blaze is Ghost Rider.' As Rocha said, there have been several Ghost Riders in Marvel Comics. A gunslinger named Carter Slade was known as Ghost Rider. After the debut of the motorcycle-riding character, Slade's alias was retroactively changed to Phantom Rider. Sam Elliott portrayed the character in the 2007 movie. Besides those two, Daniel Ketch, Alejandra Jones, and Robbie Reyes have also been Ghost Rider in the comics. The Last of Us actor Gabriel Luna portrayed Reyes in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. New Spider-Man: Brand New Day Rumor Makes Wild Claim About Sadie Sink's Role, But It Would Also Make A Lot Of Sense For Post-Avengers: Doomsday
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. When Tom Holland's Peter Parker swings back into our lives next year in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, he'll have a Strangers Things star in tow. Sadie Sink was cast in the upcoming Spider-Man movie in March, and almost right out the gate, it was theorized that she might be playing Mary Jane Watson or Jean Grey. However, now there's a new Brand New Day rumor out there making a wild claim about Sink's role, and honestly, I could buy this happening in a post-Avengers: Doomsday landscape. If a source who spoke to The Hot Mic co-host John Rocha is to be believed, Sink is playing May 'Mayday' Parker, who is Peter Parker's teenage daughter from another universe in the comics and goes by Spider-Girl. But it gets even wilder, as this source claims this version of Mayday will be the daughter of Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker, who teamed up with Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield's versions in Spider-Man: No Way Home. If this information is accurate, then this would be Mayday's second theatrical appearance, as she was presented as the infant daughter of Jake Johnson's Peter B. Parker in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. While this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt for now, Sadie Sink playing Mayday Parker wouldn't be the most farfetched thing to happen. Even ignoring how Tom Holland's Peter has already dabbled with multiverses craziness, just look at the upcoming Marvel movie's title: Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Day… Mayday… wink, wink, nudge, nudge. More Spider-Man Stories Spider-Man: Brand New Day's Director Told The Cutest Story About How He's 'Brainwashing' His Young Son Into Becoming A Marvel Fan Ahead Of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, The Franchise's Flash Thompson Actor Shares One Hope For The Character (And I Have Mixed Feelings) More importantly though, let's remember that Brand New Day is coming out two months after Avengers: Doomsday's May 2026 release. While Marvel Studios opted to have Ant-Man and the Wasp and Captain Marvel take place before the events of Avengers: Infinity War (minus their end credits scenes), there's a good chance that the next Spider-Man movie could build off what goes down in Doomsday. If that's the case, then having Mayday Parker meeting a younger variant of her father would be rather fitting, as it might become easier for travel between realities after the fifth Avengers movie. Now none of this is to say we'd also see Tobey Maguire back as his Peter or Kirsten Dunst back as Mary Jane Watson for the first time since Spider-Man 3, although I certainly hope this would happen, too. What's more important to me is that we see Sadie Sink's Mayday as Spider-Girl rather than just a powerless civilian. Let's see how she does helping our main protagonist fight whoever the villain is (Jeff Sneider, The Hot Mic's other host, claims it's going to be Mister Negative), and maybe we could then see her return in Avengers: Secret Wars. Spider-Man: Brand New Day spins its web in theaters on July 26, 2026. The Bear's Liza Colón-Zayas recently joined in an undisclosed role, and Destin Daniel Cretton is directing the feature. We'll keep our eyes and ears out for any details that verify or debunk that we'll be seeing Sadie Sink as Mayday Parker.

All about Stranger Things star Sadie Sink role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Since its announcement in March, fans are buzzing with excitement about Sadie Sink potentially joining the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. But not much was disclosed about Sadie's on-screen character. Destin Daniel Cretton will direct Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is scheduled to premiere in theaters on July 31, 2026. But a recent update has shifted the conversation's focus. Apparently, Sadie is not going to play a villain. Rather, she might be taking on the role of a superhero. Industry insider John Rocha revealed on a recent podcast, The Hot Mic, that Sadie Sink is portraying Mary Jane Watson and Peter Parker's daughter, Mayday Parker. Making new plot work in Spider-Man: Brand New Day The possibility that Spider-Man: Brand Recent Day will be based on the multiverse premise, which was already tampered with in the previous Spider-Man: No Way Home, has increased by this recent update. It is conceivable that the blending of histories will also guarantee Mayday Marker's encounter with Peter Parker from Earth-616, which would inevitably lead to Avengers: Secret Wars, given that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's versions of Spider-Man have crossed into Tom Holland's universe. Who is Mayday Parker? In 1998, Mayday Parker made his Marvel Comics debut in What If…? #105. She is referred to as Spider-Girl or Spider-Woman in various comic runs. She becomes a hero in her own right after inheriting her father's abilities. In 2023, her character appeared in animated episodes of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. However, this would be her debut appearance in a live-action movie. The remaining cast members are still being assembled by director Destin Daniel Cretton. Liza Colón-Zayas from The Bear is among the newest additions. However, her part in the movie is also still being kept a secret. Filming for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is anticipated to start later this year, following Tom Holland's completion of The Odyssey, directed by Christopher Nolan.

Sadie Sink in Spider-Man: Brand New Day; Here's everything you need to know about her role
Stranger Things fame Sadie Sink became the latest addition to Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Fans have been eagerly speculating about her role amid several reports about her possible role in the film. Although no official details about her character were released by the makers following her casting announcement in March, a new update has seemingly shifted the narrative. Previously, several theories around her role were reported. It included speculations about Sadie playing iconic X-Men character Jean Grey, while others guessed Firestar or even Mary Jane Watson herself. A rumour also suggested that she might portray Lily Hollister, aka the villain Menace. Amid this, industry insider John Rocha, speaking on a recent episode of The Hot Mic podcast, revealed what Sadie Sink may not be seen as in the upcoming film. Rocha claimed that Sadie Sink is set to portray Mayday Parker, the daughter of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson. It this is true, then a major plot twist in the film franchise is guaranteed for the films. In the episode, Rocha also revealed that the upcoming version of Mayday Parker won't be tied to Tom Holland's Spider-Man. She is reportedly part of a different timeline, connecting her to Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker. It would make her the daughter of Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane Watson. 'My source heard Sadie Sink is playing Mayday Parker. So, connecting to the Tobey universe. She's his daughter,' Rocha said. This leaves room for the film to explore a multiverse storyline and even bring Sadie's Mayday face-to-face with Tom Holland's Spider-Man, bridging different cinematic Spider-Man universes. This revelation has fueled further speculation that the film could explore a multiverse storyline, potentially bringing Sadie as Mayday face-to-face with Tom Holland of Spider-Man. The character, to be played by Sadie, Mayday Parker, first appeared in What If...? #105 by Marvel Comics. In the comics, she eventually inherits her father's powers and carves her own path as Spider-Girl or even Spider-Woman. While the character made an appearance in the animated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Sadie Sink essaying the role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day would be the first time Mayday is portrayed in a live-action film. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. Besides Sadie, the film saw another addition of The Bear star Liza Colón-Zayas. It is scheduled to start filming later this year after Tom Holland wraps up filmmaker Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. The film will be released in theatres on July 31, 2026.
