Hilarious footage reveals why Aussie's hotel room is turned upside down in Bali
An Australian traveller was enjoying a massage in Bali on Monday when she was shown an alarming video by hotel staff. Little did she know that as she was relaxing, her hotel room had been taken over by an intruder, and complete chaos was unfolding.
The footage from the hotel worker revealed the aftermath, with Jazz Walsh and her boyfriend's belongings strewn messily across their hotel room in The Korowai in Uluwatu. The culprit? An opportunistic monkey.
"Hello, good afternoon, Madam. I think monkeys have come into your room earlier through this window," the voice behind the camera can be heard, while clothes, makeup and even a surfboard are lying on the floor.
Jazz told Yahoo News she believes just one monkey was responsible for the mayhem. She initially panicked about her passport and travel money, and rushed back to the hotel room, but those items seemingly weren't of interest to the intruding primate.
"We thought it was funny and quite cute... The monkey was obviously just inquisitive, it's hard to be annoyed at the situation. Just a little bit stressed about our passports and wallets in the room initially, but all were accounted for when we checked," the Sydney woman told Yahoo.
She explained there were only two things the monkey seemed to take an interest in — her toiletries and her AirPods.
"The main bags the monkey took interest in were the toiletry bags that had my skincare in them, and also my travel medicine bag. Took a liking to cold and flu hot drink sachets.
"The lovely hotel hosts saw the monkey drop some AirPods from our balcony so went in to investigate what had happened... only one AirPod was missing, we found the case and the other AirPod," she explained.
Cheeky monkeys continue to keep travellers on their toes in Bali
Jazz isn't the first tourist to run into thieving monkeys while visiting Bali, with many visitors having their belongings stolen by monkeys at temples and other tourist sites.
The Uluwatu Temple — located just over six kilometres from The Korowai — is notorious for monkey theft, with roughly 600 of the animals residing in the area. Often, the only way travellers get their belongings back is when the monkey handlers intervene and negotiate with food.

During one incident in October 2023, a tourist in Bali was seen bargaining with a monkey after it stole her phone. In the viral footage, the woman is seen holding out a bag of suspected grapes, to which the monkey refuses and grips her phone tighter. She then puts the grapes back in her bag, rummages around before revealing a brown fruit, which the monkey takes, before a second is handed to it and the monkey snatches them both, dropping her phone.
