With a second series already commissioned, "Bookish" combines clever crime solving with faithful period drama in a bid to become the new streaming obsession of anybody who likes their murder mysteries at a pedestrian pace. Here's how you can watch "Bookish" online around the world and from anywhere with a VPN. All six episodes of "Bookish" will be available to stream from Wednesday, July 16.• U.K. — U&Alibi• Aus — Max• Watch anywhere — try NordVPN risk-free Cosy crime is certainly having its moment in the sun, with shows like "Ludwig" and "The Marlow Murder Club" winning over fans, and the star-studded big screen adaptation of Richard Osman's "The Thursday Murder Club" expected to enjoy big box office numbers when it premieres next month. "Bookish" is created by small screen favorite Mark Gatiss ("League of Gentlemen"). He also plays protagonist, Gabriel Book — an eccentric bookseller in 1940s London, who has a nose for sleuthing and encyclopaedic knowledge of literature to help him crack crimes. With a cast that includes appearances from familiar faces such as Paul McGann ("Doctor Who"), Daniel Mays ("Vera Drake") and Joely Richardson ("Lady Chatterley"), these three whodunnit mysteries look an ideal antidote to grittier boxsets. Read on and discover how you can watch "Bookish" online and from anywhere in the world. "Bookish" will be broadcast on the U&Alibi channel in the U.K. Episodes will drop in the form of three double-bills, going out on consecutive Wednesdays from July 16 at 8:10 p.m. BST. However, all six episodes will be made available on demand at the same time from Wednesday, July 16. U&Alibi is a premium channel in the U.K. and is available as part of Sky TV and Virgin Media packages. Alternatively, You can also use Now to gain access to the channel by purchasing the entertainment package — prices begin from £6.99/month. Traveling abroad? You can use a VPN to watch "Bookish" as if you were back home. NordVPN is our top pick of the options and we'll show you how to use it below. Head to your usual streaming service and watch "Bookish" online just as you would at home. It's been confirmed that "Bookish" will be shown on PBS in the U.S. However, at the time of writing, no air date has been announced. We would expect it to arrive at some point in the next few months, so be sure to keep an eye out in the PBS schedules for "Bookish". Traveling to the States from the U.K. Australia and don't want to wait? You'll need to use a VPN to unblock your usual streaming service when overseas. Aussies will be able to watch "Bookish" on the recently launched Max streaming service Down Under. Episodes are due to become available on the same day as they do in the U.K. — Wednesday, July 16. The Max price in Australia costs from $11.99/month, with pricier options available to add extra devices, enable downloadable content and upgrade to 4K and Dolby Atmos. Note that if you're an existing Foxtel subscriber, you get online access to the Max Basic with Ads plan for free. Although the rights for "Bookish" have been sold to parts of the world ranging from Scandinavia to Latin America, we have not seen that it will be shown in Canada. If you're travelling to Canada and still want to watch, you can use one of the best VPNs to log in to your home streaming service and watch as usual. Our favorite is NordVPN. Below is the U&Alibi broadcast schedule for "Bookish" in the U.K. Note that all six episodes will land for streaming on demand on Wednesday, July 16. We test and review VPN services in the context of legal recreational uses. For example: 1. Accessing a service from another country (subject to the terms and conditions of that service). 2. Protecting your online security and strengthening your online privacy when abroad. We do not support or condone the illegal or malicious use of VPN services. Coronation Street newcomer Ollie's past TV roles as he makes move on Dee-Dee
Coronation Street fans were introduced to new character Ollie in tonight's episode, as he insisted on buying Dee-Dee a drink, but where have fans seen actor Raphael Akuwudike? There was another new face introduced in the cobbles tonight, as Coronation Street fans were introduced to new character Ollie, played by actor Raphael Akuwudike. Ollie was a regular punter in the Rovers, who came over to Dee-Dee Bailey and insisted on buying her a drink. As he tries to chat her up, Dee Dee can't help being charmed, although reluctant to get to know him at first. Is happiness finally on the horizon for Dee-Dee or could Ollie be bringing even more trouble into her life? Although Dee-Dee may not have seen Ollie before, many Coronation Street fans would have, as it's not Raphael's first soap, or TV role. Although his roles may have been small, fans may be scratching their heads as they wonder where they've seen him before. Murder mystery fans may recognise the new character for his role as Kit Harcourt in The Marlow Murder Club. The star played the role as Kit Harcourt, alongside stars including Samantha Bond, Jo Martin and Cara Horgan. In the small role earlier this year, Kit's was found at the Marlow Yacht Club, and he was killed by a blow to the head. Coronation Street isn't his first soap role however, as he starred in an episode of Doctors in 2019, as he starred as Beni Cameron. The actor has also starred in a number of theatre shows, including The Player Kings (The Noel Coward); Beautiful Thing (Stratford East); Romeo and Juliet (The Almeida) and Sons of the Prophet (Hampstead Theatre). It's been a tough ride for Dee-Dee this year - and she's certainly not had the best of luck in her love life. She thought she found the love of her life with fiancé Joel Deering, however, his sick crimes came to light last year and he was killed shortly after. While with Dee-Dee, Joel attempted to kill Lauren Bolton, before she went on the run for months - only to return pregnant with his child. Lauren later got her own back as it was revealed she was the one who pushed Joel into the river. However, Dee-Dee's nightmare didn't end there, as she later found out she was pregnant with Joel's child. Will she ever find her happy ever after?

Death in Paradise-style "cosy" detective show confirms exciting new-season update
The Marlow Murder Club will return to screens with an all-new series. UKTV has announced that the detective show starring Jo Martin and Samantha Bond has been renewed for a third season, with filming already underway on the follow-up outing. Cara Horgan and Natalie Dew will reprise their roles as Becks Starling and detective Tanika Malik, alongside fellow series regulars Holli Dempsey, Phill Langhorne and Tijan Sarr. "Now an established part of newly promoted DI Tanika Malik's (Dew) crime solving team, retired archaeologist Judith Potts (Bond), dog walker Suzie Harris (Jo Martin) and vicar's wife Becks Starling (Horgan) are back and bringing their unconventional methods to a string of high-profile murders," teases the official show synopsis. The recommission follows in the wake of season 2 which arrived on screens in April this year. The third season of The Marlow Murder Club will comprise of six episodes, with three new murder mysteries to solve, that will unfold over two episodes each. Related: "From the sudden death of the nicest man in Marlow, the town's beloved Mayor, to a celebrity chef found dead at the launch of his cookbook with half the town in attendance, the team will be working under the watchful eye of the Marlow community," the synopsis continues. "They'll also be called to action at a university reunion in an eerie manor house where in a surprising twist, Becks finds herself amongst the suspects. Could this case threaten our amateur sleuths' roles as civilian advisors?" The Marlow Murder Club is based on the bestselling book series of the same name by Robert Thorogood, who also created Death in Paradise and co-created its spin-off shows Beyond Paradise and Return to Paradise. Related: Season three will be based on the third book in the franchise, Queen of Poisons, with Thorogood having also co-written the first two episodes of the next instalment with Daniel Rusteau. The Marlow Murder Club has been described as "cosy" in reviews by Decider and The Daily Telegraph, while Digital Spy awarded three stars to season 2, praising the finale which left viewers with "the desire to know these women more". No release date has been shared yet, but viewers can expect the new season to arrive on U and U&DRAMA in 2026. The Marlow Murder Club seasons 1 and 2 are available on U now. This genteel riverside town is the A-list's best-kept secret
Tree-lined roads festooned with bunting, a coxless four gliding along the Thames, a lively cricket match in the sunshine: the opening scenes of The Marlow Murder Club's second season, aired in March 2025, paint the picture of a sociable, laid back town emanating countryside charm and community spirit. And, for once, fact is not so far from fiction. With its hanging baskets, neat streets, lush riverbanks and Georgian architecture, Marlow was last year officially deemed 'Best Kept Village' in Buckinghamshire – a hotly contested title vied for annually since 1957. Add Michelin stars, upmarket shopping and excellent pubs to the mix, and you have the perfect spot for an exceptionally genteel weekend break. Here, we help craft the perfect sojourn in this quaint, picturesque corner of Buckinghamshire, set between Henley and Maidenhead on the River Thames – complete with Michelin stars, meandering strolls and even a dash of retail therapy. A rich pedigree Tucked away on the border of South Bucks, Marlow is a town with a history that dates back to the Domesday Book. By 1227, it had received a market charter from King Henry III, adding Chipping to its name to signify market town status (though – unlike Chippings Campden and Norton of the Cotswolds – it has since dropped this qualifier). If Marlow's suspension bridge seems familiar, that's because it served as a prototype for designer William Tierney Clark's later, grander project, the striking Széchenyi Chain Bridge in Budapest. Look out, too, for a blue plaque identifying the house where Mary Shelley finished Frankenstein, and for a bronze statue in Higginson Park; the UK's most decorated rower, Sir Steve Redgrave, was born in this riverside town where rowing heritage runs deep. Unexpected culinary credentials Marlow's charms have lured various high-profile names – including residents Ricky Gervais and Chris Evans – but there's a case to be made that it's celebrity chef and restaurateur, Tom Kerridge, who has most shaped its current identity. His four Marlow restaurants – all opened within the last decade – are widely credited with helping the town achieve its current status as a honeypot for destination-diners, while his brainchild Pub in the Park, the UK's largest touring food and music festival, has provided plenty of street cred. The two Michelin-starred Hand & Flowers – a cosy, unassuming pub opened by Kerridge 20 years ago – is still the star of the show, though The Coach (another, more affordable Michelin-starred pub), private dining room The Shed, and The Butcher's Tap (a traditional butcher's with, no surprise, another pub) have helped to cement Kerridge's influence. Others have followed suit. Atul Kochhar, another established local chef, serves up excellent Northern Indian food at Vaasu, and Southern dishes at Sindhu. For Mediterranean fare, there's Lavvin on West Street (its garden is particularly lovely), while Brvtvs on Spittal Street is all pizzas, cocktails and DJs playing vinyl, and – just down the road – you'll find Vietnamese at Suum Kitchen alongside the popular Oarsman gastropub. Locals will also tell you to stop by Strawberry Grove for its excellent cakes; The Vanilla Pod, run by chef-proprietor Michael Macdonald, for its tasting menus; M Café; The Duke pub; and Rebellion Beer Co, a local brewery with popular Members's Nights and a great shop. Get outdoors If you prefer a buzz, plan your visit to coincide with one of Marlow's many popular annual events: Pub in the Park, for example, which takes place in May; the Henley regatta and festival in June; the Marlow Carnival in September; or even the Santa Fun Run fundraiser and Christmas lights. This is, however, a delightful place to be when all is calm and quiet, particularly on a warm summer's day, when locals are going about their business or messing about on the river. It is a town made for riverside strolls, and there's even a lovely circular 10km route which takes in Higginson Park, Temple Mill Island, Hurley (stop at The Olde Bell, one of England's oldest inns, for a drink) and Bisham Woods. In spring, much of the way is blanketed with resplendent bluebells, and is said to have been the inspiration for the wildwood in Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows. Take to the boutiques There is no shortage of opportunities for shopping here, between the neatly curated roster of high-end high-street brands (Missoma, The White Company, Mint Velvet, Jigsaw, Space NK) and impressive line-up of independent spots (most of which exist largely to court the well-heeled weekender). Cases in point include Un Dimanche a Paris, which also has boutiques in Henley and Barbados, Susie Watson Designs's quintessentially English interiors – which can also be found in the likes of Salcombe and Tunbridge Wells – and cult Aussie brand R.M. Williams, worn by Margot Robbie, Cillian Murphy and Alexa Chung. It's all very quiet luxury – even if you haven't hit double digits yet (I defy any parent to leave Angel & Rocket or Scamp and Dude empty handed). Leave time for a stop at Home Barn, a rustic furniture and homeware haven, with an equally enticing farm shop next door. Spend the night If you want to be able to meander home on foot after an evening feast, The Hand & Flowers has 15 rooms across four cottages in town (from £325 per night, including a full cooked breakfast at the restaurant). If proximity is a less pressing concern, opt for the impossibly grand Danesfield House Hotel & Spa – where George and Amal Clooney threw their post-wedding bash – three miles up the road (from £249 per night).
