Jet lag, jazz hands & joy: Jonathan Roxmouth's life on the musical road

Which city has the best theatre audiences — and what makes them so good? Hands down, it's Johannesburg. The audiences are warm, receptive and don't watch theatre as if it is on a screen. They get involved and when they enjoy something they make it very clear. When you think 'Broadway', what's the first image, sound or memory that comes to mind? The smell of the food carts in Times Square. They are mostly Middle Eastern so there is coal, spices and grilled meat everywhere. It's intoxicating. Which musical number are you most excited to perform again — and in which city, if you had to pick? Send in the Clowns is such a deeply personal song for me so being able to sing it again in Joburg is very special. The last time was during Back in Lights and I was shocked that it resonated with so many people. What's the most jaw-dropping theatre or concert hall you've ever performed in? The Dubai Opera House is extraordinary. The walls and floor can be moved and adjusted depending on the acoustic mix you'd prefer. It's ultra luxurious and it was a real treat to walk onto the fountain piazza after the performance. Do you have a pre-show ritual when you're in an unfamiliar city? It's always drinking way more water than I think is necessary and then an endless amount of Pei Pah Koa tea for throat health. What's your ultimate tour survival hack — for flights, hotels or backstage life? Take. Your. Own. Pillow. Have you ever had to go on stage after a travel disaster or no sleep? Tell us. That's the story of my life. Touring means jet lag. I remember going into a technical rehearsal in New Zealand after a 17-hour flight. I was hysterical and began giggling to which the choreographer uttered a now famous phrase: 'Keep it together, Jonathan!' Image: studio13lights / What's the first thing you do when you get a day off in a brand-new city? I try to find local street food and then a decent coffee. You really begin to understand the culinary culture through what the locals eat. If you could teleport to see one Broadway show, any era, any cast, what would it be? Robert Preston in The Music Man on Broadway in 1957. What city or moment on tour recently made you stop and think, 'This is why I do this'? We performed the Indian premiere of The Phantom of the Opera in Mumbai this March. During one of the performances, a little boy in the front row had come dressed as the Phantom. I winked at him and his smile is something I remember when I'm having a tough day. I WAS that little boy in 2004 so it was a full circle moment for me.

As actor Hugh Jackman and his wife of three decades, Deborra-Lee Furness, finalize their divorce, the former couple has started to put some of their assets up for sale — including a vast 11,000-square-foot New York triplex, just listed for $38.9 million, according to The Real Deal. The couple purchased the sprawling West Village home, which boasts views of the Hudson River, in 2008 for $21 million. However, they have not lived in it for some time, instead renting it out for $125,000 per month, The Real Deal reports. The couple previously attempted to sell the home in 2022 for the same price it is now listed for, before deciding to rent it. The West Village condo is the first of their assets to be sold following their divorce agreement but it might not be the last. In 2015, Jackman and Furness purchased a 7,300-square-foot, three-bedroom, five-bathroom home in East Hampton, New York for $3.5 million, a year before buying a $5.9 million home in Australia, which reports Jackman is believed to be taking over. Rather than play out a messy divorce in public, Jackman and Furness chose to go through the process behind closed doors. The Daily Mail estimates that the couple had a net worth of $250 million to divvy up in the divorce, the details of which have now been resolved. Jackman's star appeal has proven invaluable to Broadway, too. He starred in "The Music Man' alongside his current partner, Foster Sutton, from December 2021 through January 2023. Jackman has been involved in several business ventures outside his career. He founded Laughing Man Coffee Company, a fair-trade coffee business with two cafés in downtown New York. He is, however, no longer involved in the enterprise. 'I did not set out to make a coffee company. I saw an opportunity to make a difference in the world with an exceptional coffee that gives back to the communities that grow it,' he told CEO World in 2021. Along with his "Deadpool & Wolverine" co-star Ryan Reynolds he is a co-owner of Australia's three-time SailGP champions, now known as the BONDS Flying Roos SailGP Team. According to the U.K. The Independent, the team has secured a multiyear partnership with BONDS underwear. It is the first time the Australian SailGP team has adopted a sponsor's name. Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness finalise divorce

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness have officially divorced, after nearly three decades of marriage, with court records showing the case was finalised this week. People magazine reported overnight that online court records from New York's Suffolk County Supreme Court show that a judgment of divorce was filed on June 12. The case status is now listed as 'Disposed'. Furness, 69, filed for divorce from Jackman, 56, on May 27, with the filing showing terms of the divorce were uncontested and would only need a sign-off from a judge. The pair initially announced their separation in September 2023 after a relationship spanning 27 years, beginning when they met while starring in the 1990s ABC drama Correlli. In the statement, they said their 'journey now is shifting' and they had 'decided to separate to pursue our individual growth'. Loading While Jackman has made no public comment since, Furness issued an emotional public statement in May amid rumours of Jackman's involvement with fellow actor Sutton Foster, with whom he starred in The Music Man on Broadway in 2022. Neither has commented publicly about the rumours of their relationship, but the pair has been photographed in public holding hands and kissing over the past six months. 'My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal,' Furness said in a statement in May, when she spoke publicly for the first time.

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness Finalize Divorce

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness are officially single—legally speaking. The two reportedly finalized their divorce this week, just one month after Deborra-Lee filed for divorce. Neither Hugh nor Deborra-Lee have commented on the news, but People reports that online court records mark their divorce case status as 'Disposed,' which means the court is essentially done with the case. One month might seem speedy for a divorce, but the two were separated for about 2 years before the official filing, and People reports that the terms in Deborra-Lee's filings were uncontested. The exact terms of the divorce have not been reported. Previous reports claimed that the divorce was at an 'impasse' over the division of their reported $250 million estate. However, The Daily Mail cited a source who claimed that the two were both able to come to an agreement for a 'handsome spousal support payment.' The source also claimed that Deborra-Lee was 'pleased' with the settlement, adding, 'She got what she believed she deserved.' (What she deserved, according to The Daily Mail, is around $100 million.) It's also unclear whether or not the divorce settlement includes any kind of non-disclosure agreement. Celebrity divorces have included these clauses in the past (see: Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez), and it wouldn't surprise me if there was something in the terms that forbid Deborra-Lee from writing a tell-all memoir about her 27-year marriage to Hugh, especially as reports have claimed that she's been getting a lot of lucrative offers to do so. As for what's next for the exes, Hugh has already moved on. Hugh and Sutton Foster made their relationship public in January—nearly 3 years after the two starred in Broadway's The Music Man revival—and are reportedly still going strong. Meanwhile, Deborra-Lee is reportedly taking her time before re-entering the dating pool. 'She is just not interested in this right now,' a source told The Daily Mail. That's not to say she hasn't gotten any offers, the insider said she had 'turned down dates from some incredible guys' and was just waiting to settle her divorce before putting herself out there. Perhaps now that the divorce has been finalized she can do just that.
