Oregon Department of Emergency Management activates level 3 response for flooding
The Oregon Department of Emergency Management on Monday activated the State Emergency Coordination Center to level three in response to widespread flooding in western Oregon. Heavy rain has caused flooding of small streams, creeks and rivers, particularly in the south Willamette Valley, an OEM news release said. The rain has caused urban flooding and increased risk of landslides in areas with steep terrain, the release said. Multiple flood warnings have been issued and a flood advisory remained in effect, according to the release. Rain is expected to continue throughout the week. Level three signifies regional response, and local emergency operation centers are also activated, the release said. The activation "allows OEM to maintain situational awareness, facilitate information-sharing, and help fulfill resource requests." OEM advised Oregonians to check its flood dashboard for updated information. The agency also advised people to avoid travel if possible but to check for road conditions if they have to travel.
