The Orchid Show, with vibrant blooms and stunning displays, is one of the city's most anticipated springtime events, attracting over 150,000 visitors annually. This curated hotel package couples a pampered city stay at the hotel with an immersive experience at the 250-acre botanical garden, a National Historic Landmark. The Palm Court at The Plaza New York The Plaza/Richard Mandelkorn Since its opening in 1907, The Plaza has welcomed presidents, royalties, celebrities and dignitaries —including Frank Lloyd Wright, F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Beatles, Liza Minellii, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and Frank Sinatra. The hotel has been portrayed in TV and film, appearing in Funny Girl, Plaza Suite, Home Alone 2, Seinfeld and The Great Gatsby. It also set the scene for the world-famous children's book Eloise. The 282 elegant guest rooms and 102 suites feature classic decor and modern amenities. Both a New York City landmark and a National Historic Landmark, the chateau-style property is now operated by Fairmont Hotels and Resorts. The Plaza has served Afternoon Tea in The Palm Court since the hotel's opening. Now helmed by Culinary Director Geoffrey Zakarian, the opulent setting resembles a greenhouse with palm trees, lush greenery, trellises and marble columns under a soaring stained-glass dome. Guests can choose from 25 varieties of Palais des Tea teas, served with sandwiches, snacks and fine pastries. This phenomenal show has become more exciting each successive year. Each edition has a different focus. This year's theme, 'The Orchid Show: Mexican Modernism,' is a fusion of tradition and contemporary design. The bold, multicolored designs of Mexican architect Luis Barragan inspired the exhibition. Barragan, awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1980, is considered the foremost figure in modern Mexican architecture. The NYBG installation was conceived as a tribute to him. The Enid A. Haupt Conservatory will be filled with thousands of flowers, including 30,000 orchid species, representing the diverse ecosystems of Mexico displayed against the backdrop of agave, cacti and bougainvillea. The bright pink and orange hues and rich scents evoke the feeling of entering a tropical Paradise. Speaking to The New York Times, Joanna L. Groarke, the garden's vice president for exhibitions and programming, said the show aims to deliver a 'shot of color when people really need it.'
