Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson flex comedy muscles in The Pickup

Actor-comedians Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson team up for The Pickup, a heist movie that sees them sparring as a pair of incompatible armoured truck drivers. Starring opposite Murphy, 64, was "a bucket list thing" for Davidson, 31, who had admired Murphy's work since he was seven. Unlike their characters, the two had much in common. "Pete comes from SNL (Saturday Night Live). He's a standup comic. We're both from the East Coast," said Murphy. "I love to get into a scene with somebody else that's funny, improvise with them, and start playing. I love it." On a routine round of cash pickups, Murphy's Russell and Davidson's Travis are targeted by criminals. Things get personal when Travis discovers that the thieves are led by his one-night-stand from the night before, played by Keke Palmer, and the life of Russell's hot-headed wife, played by Eva Longoria, comes under threat. The duo must pull together to save the day. The script, by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider, served as their blueprint, and director Tim Story encouraged them to go off it, the two said. "We would do one as written, and then Tim and everyone was, (sic) like, 'Just go nuts', and we would end up just trying to one-up each other. We were just trying to make each other laugh," said Davidson. "They were improvising constantly, and it was really sweet to see. It's so cool because you see two different generations," added Palmer. The generational differences also seeped into the scenes, with the fighting taking its toll on Russell's body. "Usually in these types of movies or my early movies like the Beverly Hills Cop and 48 Hrs, I was the young maverick, and now I'm the older guy," said Murphy. Murphy has been making movies for 43 years and said new challenges were few and far between. "I've played different ethnicities and different genders. I've been inanimate. I've played spaceships. I've played every type of role you could possibly imagine," he said, but added he was working on "something fresh and new". "We're doing George Clinton, Parliament Funkadelic, we're doing his life. And there's no one like George. So I'll be in uncharted waters."

Eddie Murphy who voiced Donkey in Shrek is finally getting his own spin-off film; everything to know

Donkey is finally getting his time in the spotlight, sans ogre. Eddie Murphy just revealed that everyone's favourite foot-in-mouth sidekick from Shrek is getting his own movie. In an interview with ScreenRant while promoting his film The Pickup, Murphy said, 'We're still doing about two years into Shrek 5,' adding that he begins recording for the Donkey spinoff this September. The standalone film will be released three years from now. Eddie Murphy who voiced Donkey in Shrek Following in the footsteps (paws?) of the successful Puss in Boots (2011) spinoffs, this Donkey-centric film promises a whole new adventure, this time focusing on his 'dragon wife' and their six adorable 'Dronkey' kids. 'Donkey's going to have his own movie, own little story with his dragon wife and his kids that are half-dragon and half-donkeys,' Murphy shared, adding that the team has come up with a 'funny story.' The film will delve deeper into Donkey's chaotic domestic life, building on his relationship with Dragon Elizabeth the Dragoness — first seen in Shrek as a fire-breathing villain turned unexpected lover. Fans have long speculated about the future of the Dronkeys, and this might be our first real glimpse into their wild family dynamic. Expect fire-breathing tantrums, donkey jokes, and a whole lot of heart. Meanwhile, Shrek 5 is also underway and set to release on December 23, 2026. OG cast members Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz are back as Shrek and Fiona, and joining them is Zendaya, who will voice their teenage daughter Felicia. Between a royal teen ogre and a half-dragon family, the swamp is about to get very, very busy.

Eddie Murphy hails Pickup co-star Pete Davidson

Eddie Murphy has "a lot in common" with Pete Davidson. The 64-year-old actor stars alongside Pete, 31, in The Pickup, the new action-comedy movie, and Eddie has revealed that he relished the experience of working with the former Saturday Night Live star. Speaking to Extra, Eddie explained: "I was looking forward to working with him. "I was a fan already from SNL, and we have a lot in common now. We both started doing stand-up when we were really young, and we both started Saturday Night Live when we were really young, and we both lost our dads when we were really young. So, we had a lot in common, and he's a new-generation SNL. So, it was exciting. "I love working with SNL alumni. I feel like a kinship to all of them." Pete is actually expecting his first child with Elsie Hewitt - but Eddie hadn't offered him any parenting advice. The Hollywood star said: "I didn't give him any parenting advice. "You know, being a parent is kind of, you know, every kid is different ... You kinda just have to go in there and figure it out on your own. The good thing is that nature has wired us to do the right thing. I think it takes more effort to be a bad parent. "If you love your child, you gotta go out of your way to be a bad parent. And doing the right thing just comes natural. So, I didn't give him any advice.' Meanwhile, Pete recently claimed that his impending fatherhood has given him a new perspective on life. The movie star explained that he's experienced a "weird sense of calmness" and is no longer looking to his career for fulfilment. The comedian - who shot to stardom on Saturday Night Live, before turning his focus towards the movie industry - told People magazine: 'I'm just excited to take care of the little one. The second I found out the news, I was like, 'Oh wow, what I do is just a job.' "I realised I was kind of basing my happiness on work, which is ridiculously unhealthy. So it gave me this weird sense of calmness, where this is just a job and now I have someone to do it for." The King of Staten Island star is looking forward to his child enjoying playdates with four-month-old Saga, the daughter of his friend Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox. He said: 'We're going to have awesome play dates. Yeah, that's [going to be] a cool play date."

Elsie Hewitt Subtly Shows Off Her Baby Bump in a Classic Black Maxi Dress

"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." Pete Davidson and Elsie Hewitt looked so in love as they attended the red-carpet premiere of The Pickup last night for a glamorous Los Angeles date night on Sunday. The evening marked the first public outing for the couple since they confirmed they are expecting their first child together. For the occasion, the model went simple and classic in a black sleeveless maxi dress with a high bateau neck, which she paired only with black pumps. Hewitt wore fresh, rosy makeup and had her hair down in easy waves. On the red carpet, Davidson wrapped his arm around her waist, wresting it on her growing baby bump. The comedian went the street style route with his look, which consisted of an elevated sweatsuit from Telfar: a colorblock jacket in caramel brown, mocha mousse, and butter yellow, and matching light brown pants. Davidson completed his outfit with white-and-silver dad sneakers, a silver watch, and oval sunglasses. Davidson and Hewitt began dating earlier this year, but have already hit several milestones, including going Instagram official and making their red-carpet debut. Now, they are getting ready to become a family. Last week, the former Saturday Night Live cast member went on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and opened up about his happy news. 'I did it!' Davidson said with a smile as host Jimmy Fallon brought up Hewitt's pregnancy. 'Anybody who knows me… it's my dream to be a dad. So I'm so excited. Elsie's excited. I'm excited to see her be a mom. So we're stoked,' Davidson continued. 'Everything else doesn't really matter anymore. It's nice.'
