Raiders O-Lineman Calls Out Steelers DT Cameron Heyward: ‘He Didn't Beat Me'
Las Vegas Raiders offensive lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson hopes to get another crack at Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward. Las Vegas Raiders offensive lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson allowed the first sack of his NFL career against Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward last season. However, Powers-Johnson doesn't think it had anything to do with Heyward's talent. Advertisement 'I'd say playing against Cam Heyward and giving up my first sack – ever, in my entire life,' Powers-Johnson said on 'The Rush' podcast. 'I would have to say that. He didn't beat me, I beat myself. I beat myself, I overset. And he got me, and said some choice words after, and I really hope he comes back for another year. That's all I'm gonna say.' Unfortunately for Powers-Johnson, the Steelers and Raiders aren't scheduled to play in 2025, so he won't get that opportunity unless the two teams meet in the postseason. The 36-year-old's football future seems to be up in the air heading into every offseason, too. Heyward does have two more years left on the three-year, $45 million contract extension he signed last offseason, so he could choose to play it out. He also showed no signs of slowing down last season. Advertisement In 2024, he recorded 71 tackles (35 solo), eight sacks and 11 passes defensed, keeping himself in the conversation as one of the best interior defensive linemen in the NFL. 'I think you don't really think about passing the torch right now,' Heyward said at OTA's last week. 'I think it's about, 'How can we make this team the best it can be?' It's not about holding secrets or anything. It's about making sure we're all growing at a pace that, by Week 1, we're ready to kick this thing up.' Pittsburgh Steelers' Cameron Heyward Takes Shot at Raiders' Offensive Anchor Jackson Powers-Johnson
Pittsburgh Steelers' Cameron Heyward Takes Shot at Raiders' Offensive Anchor Jackson Powers-Johnson originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Pittsburgh Steelers captain and defensive standout Cameron Heyward is stuck in a childish war of words of sorts. Advertisement The Steelers star is entering his 15th season in 2025, while Las Vegas Raiders offensive lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson will embark on just his second. During an appearance on his teammate Maxx Crosby's "The Rush" podcast, Powers-Johnson described his "Welcome to the NFL" moment in his rookie season. He said it stems from a Week 6 matchup between Pittsburgh and Las Vegas. "I'd say playing against Cam Heyward and giving up my first sack ... ever ... in my entire life," Powers-Johnson said. "I would have to say that. He didn't beat me, I beat myself. I beat myself, I overset. And he got me, and said some choice words after, and I really hope he comes back for another year. That's all I'm gonna say." Heyward took to his own podcast, "Not Just Football," to provide the proverbial slap back to reality for Powers-Johnson. Advertisement "Hey man, I was close a lot of times. I just, you know, I delivered the baby at that moment," Heyward said. "I don't remember what I said. You know, I tend to black out in those moments, but that wasn't the only time he got beat. I'm gonna be honest. "I'm gonna be honest too, this is the other thing," Heyward said. "He's saying this, and we don't even have him scheduled this year. That's kind of funny. So now you're talking stuff when you had all this time to even bring this up." It was one of just two sacks that the former Oregon Ducks offensive lineman gave up last season during his rookie campaign. And the fact that he wants another shot at Heyward is admirable, but it won't happen in 2025 unless one of them is traded to another team. The Steelers and Raiders aren't on each other's schedule next season. So we may have to wait a while before we see how this thing ends. Cam Heyward Has Strong Response to Raiders OL Jackson Powers-Johnson
Cam Heyward Has Strong Response to Raiders OL Jackson Powers-Johnson originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There could be an unlikely rivalry brewing in the AFC. The Las Vegas Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers have been rivals for decades, but there's apparently some bad blood between players from each team. Advertisement Recently, second-year offensive lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson revealed that he's eyeing his next matchup with Pro Bowl defensive lineman Cameron Heyward. "I'd say playing against Cam Heyward and giving up my first sack-ever, in my entire life," Powers-Johnson said on a recent episode of "The Rush." "I would have to say that. He didn't beat me, I beat myself. I beat myself, I overset. And he got me, and said some choice words after, and I really hope he comes back for another year. That's all I'm gonna say." Cam Heyward sacking Aidan O' R. Sylvanie-Imagn Images Heyward has been in the NFL for 14 years, and he's faced hundreds of offensive linemen. He had a chance to respond to Powers-Johnson and suggested that he beat him more than once. Advertisement "Hey man, I was close a lot of times. I just, you know, I delivered the baby at that moment," Heyward said on the "Not Just Football" podcast. "I don't remember what I said. You know, I tend to black out in those moments, but that wasn't the only time he got beat. I'm gonna be honest." Heyward is an interesting player for Powers-Johnson to start beef with. He's very likely going to be a Hall of Famer one day and is still one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL. The 2025 season will be the first time since 2020 that the Raiders and Steelers don't play in the regular season, so it could be a while before Heyward and Powers-Johnson get another shot at each other. Jackson Powers-Johnson Seeks 'Retribution' Against Raiders' Hated AFC West Rival
The Las Vegas Raiders had arguably the worst roster in the NFL last season, which led to an abysmal four-win campaign under head coach Antonio Pierce. Still, somehow, the team had a chance to take down the AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs in Week 13. Trailing by just two points in the waning seconds of the contest, the Raiders were prepared to run one more play before calling a timeout and letting kicker Daniel Carlson win the game for them. However, a botched snap between quarterback Aidan O'Connell and rookie center Jackson Powers-Johnson gave the Chiefs the ball back, and just seconds later, the victory. Las Vegas Raiders OL Jackson Powers-Johnson (58).Kirby Lee-Imagn Images Powers-Johnson and O'Connell both took the blame for the miscue, but ultimately, the details of it were not important. Powers-Johnson recently spoke on "The Rush with Maxx Crosby" about which AFC West opponent he was looking forward to facing most in the 2025 season, and he had an obvious answer. Advertisement "I respect them as opponents. But, I strongly dislike them all," Powers-Johnson said. "Just because of the PTSD, I need retribution for the Chiefs." Las Vegas will take on the Chiefs in Week 7 at Arrowhead Stadium, so that will be the young player's first crack at the team's hated division rival. Ideally, Powers-Johnson has moved past the mistake, regardless of whose fault it was, and he can play focused football against one of the best teams in the league. However, if he can channel that frustration and use it as motivation, then more power to him. Maxx Crosby Shares Blunt Reaction to Shedeur Sanders' Draft Fall
After the Las Vegas Raiders traded for Geno Smith, their chances of taking Shedeur Sanders in the first round plummeted. However, once Sanders started to fall down draft boards, it seemed like a matter of time before they would select. They ended up passing on him nine times before the Cleveland Browns ultimately selected him in the fifth round. Sanders has a relationship with Raiders minority owner Tom Brady and star defensive end Maxx Crosby. Advertisement He was also recently seen hanging out with Smith. If any team had the people in the locker room to foster a good environment for Sanders, it was the Raiders. Shedeur Ciaglo-Imagn Images They decided that it wasn't the right fit. That wasn't a unique team, as every NFL franchise had a chance to select him. Crosby was particularly surprised by how far the young quarterback fell. 'When he dropped out of the first round, I was shocked,' Crosby said on "The Rush." 'When he dropped to the fifth, I'm like, 'Holy (expletive)' I knew there was a possibility he could drop later in the first round, maybe early second. That was kind of the consensus. Everyone thought he was going in the first. Then, it just kept going and going and going, I was like, 'I cannot believe this (expletive) right now.'' Advertisement Crosby has known Sanders since he was a kid, and he thinks he'll use this to fuel himself going forward. 'The NFL is the NFL,' Crosby said. 'They don't give a (expletive) about who you are, what you're about, all that, and I think Shedeur – I love Shedeur to death. That's my little brother. I've been trying to help him for a long time. I've been in his corner during the whole process. I think his chip on his shoulder is going to grow.'
