Jackson Powers-Johnson Seeks 'Retribution' Against Raiders' Hated AFC West Rival

Yahoo21-05-2025

The Las Vegas Raiders had arguably the worst roster in the NFL last season, which led to an abysmal four-win campaign under head coach Antonio Pierce. Still, somehow, the team had a chance to take down the AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs in Week 13.
Trailing by just two points in the waning seconds of the contest, the Raiders were prepared to run one more play before calling a timeout and letting kicker Daniel Carlson win the game for them. However, a botched snap between quarterback Aidan O'Connell and rookie center Jackson Powers-Johnson gave the Chiefs the ball back, and just seconds later, the victory.

Powers-Johnson and O'Connell both took the blame for the miscue, but ultimately, the details of it were not important. Powers-Johnson recently spoke on "The Rush with Maxx Crosby" about which AFC West opponent he was looking forward to facing most in the 2025 season, and he had an obvious answer.

"I respect them as opponents. But, I strongly dislike them all," Powers-Johnson said. "Just because of the PTSD, I need retribution for the Chiefs."
Las Vegas will take on the Chiefs in Week 7 at Arrowhead Stadium, so that will be the young player's first crack at the team's hated division rival. Ideally, Powers-Johnson has moved past the mistake, regardless of whose fault it was, and he can play focused football against one of the best teams in the league.
However, if he can channel that frustration and use it as motivation, then more power to him.

Rafferty had dealt with multiple health issues in recent years, notably dealing with a transverse myelitis diagnosis since 2008. According to Rafferty's daughter, Rachel Powers, her father had been hospitalized since early May. He was known for being an anchor on the Cowboys' offensive line, as the 14-year NFL veteran's career spanned from Roger Staubach to Troy Aikman. Rafferty was a fixture on the team after being drafted in the fourth round of the 1976 NFL Draft, wearing the famous Dallas star on his helmet from 1976 until he retired after the 1989 season. A New York native and Penn State product, Rafferty played in two Super Bowls for the Cowboys. He was the starting guard for Dallas in a 27-10 victory over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 12. Originally a guard, Rafferty transitioned to center after four seasons in what was supposed to be a temporary move. NFL Insider Drops Concerning Update on Terry McLaurin's Situation

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Mandatory minicamp is around the corner for the Washington Commanders and Terry McLaurin still doesn't have an extension in place. While McLaurin's absence at minicamp wasn't a major red flag, considering the sessions weren't mandatory, it was clear that his lack of presence was due to contract talks going quiet. So far, McLaurin's plans for the mandatory minicamp on June 10 are not known. While all signs are beginning to point to him not showing up unless another deal is agreed to, only time will tell if that's really the case. Either way, one NFL Insider's recent update on McLaurin paints a concerning picture. "I don't think it's in a great place right now," Albert Breer said on 106.7 The Fan in DC on Thursday. "If you ask me where this is, and I think it's just sort of, I hate to say normal course of things, but I do think to some degree these things do get bumpy." What is Albert Breer hearing about Terry McLaurin contract talks? "I don't think it's in a great place right now." — 106.7 The Fan (@1067theFan) June 5, 2025 McLaurin just earned his highest honor as an NFL wide receiver in 2024, getting named Second-Team All-Pro. He earned that nod amid his second Pro Bowl campaign. Playing with first-year quarterback Jayden Daniels, McLaurin thrived by coming down with 82 catches for 1,096 yards. He scored a career-high 13 touchdowns, shattering his previous high, which was seven during his rookie season in 2019. Terry McLaurin #17 of the Washington Commanders runs the ball to score a touchdown in the second quarter of the game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on January 26, 2025 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Eagles beat the Commanders 55-23. More LaurenThis season, McLaurin is set to make $15.5 million. Beyond that, there are no guarantees in place. If McLaurin hit the free agency market, he would generate a major market, being that he's one of the most productive and consistent pass-catchers in the game. If the Commanders want to make sure they lock in McLaurin beyond this season, they'll have to come to the table with something around the $30 million mark, doubling his current salary, according to Breer. "I think it's fair of him to ask for something in that range, just based on where the market's gone," the Insider added. On a slightly positive note, the assumption is that McLaurin and the Commanders will get something done. Unfortunately, there could be some mess along the way. For a Commanders team that played without pressure in 2024, they thrived and shocked the football world by making a run to the 2024 NFC Championship game under the leadership of their rookie quarterback, Jayden Daniels. Now, the mood is a little different. The Commanders have an overachieving wideout who wants to get paid. The pressure is on for them to take a step forward after shattering expectations last season. Washington will likely do the right thing and pay McLaurin. Just how far will the talks go, though?

Derrick Henry's spot in future Adam Sandler film hinges on cracking this NFL milestone

Coming to the big screen near you: Adam Sandler and Derrick Henry (maybe). This week, Baltimore's star running back revealed to Dan Patrick, a good friend of Sandler's, that Sandler is his favorite actor and that he'd love to meet him one day. Patrick then upped the ante as he told Henry, who compiled 1,921 rushing yards last season in his first year with the Ravens, that if he could surpass 2,000 yards next season, he'd make sure to get him a spot in a Sandler movie. Advertisement 3 Adam Sandler spoke to Derrick Henry in a video to agree to the deal that would land Henry a role in a Sandler movie. The Dan Patrick Show The iconic actor and comedian agreed wholeheartedly. 'Yo Derrick, I just woke up, you know that. That's why I look disgusting — on top of the fact that I am disgusting,' Sandler joked at the start of a video message for Henry. 'I love ya, congrats on everything, 2,000 yards-plus gets you not only in the movie, but we have a nice dinner together and we talk about Dan Patrick's facial hair and how hard it is to grow it.' Advertisement Henry watched the video, grinning ear to ear. 'That's my dog, man,' Henry said as Sandler's message concluded. 'Hell yeah, man, that's cool as hell.' Henry then sent a heartfelt message to Patrick to thank him for getting him in contact with his favorite actor. Advertisement 'Dan thank you for sending the message for the video, that was really cool!' the Ravens running back wrote. 'Much love!' 3 Dan Patrick helped Derrick Henry get in contact with Adam Sandler. The Dan Patrick Show So, the stakes have been raised. Henry has reached 2,000 yards in a season just once across his nine-year NFL career — hitting the mark in year No. 5 of his eight seasons spent with the Tennessee Titans. Advertisement In his inaugural season with the Ravens in 2024-25, he just barely missed the mark. 3 Derrick Henry came up just short of 2,000 yards last season. AP But by coming up just 79 yards short, the 31-year-old — who was awarded a $30 million extension with the Ravens last month — certainly showed that he's got some left in the tank as he looks to jumpstart his movie career on the one condition that Patrick and Sandler laid out for him. The five-time Pro Bowler and 2020 AP Offensive Player of the Year has appeared in plenty of advertisements and commercials across his NFL years, so he's got some acting chops already.
