Mind-bending' TV drama that had fans calling in sick races up Netflix chart
A mind-bending Netflix series that had fans lying to their bosses so they could binge the 'gut-wrenching' finale has raced up the Netflix chart. Part two of the second season of The Sandman, adapted from Neil Gaiman's beloved comic book series, dropped on Netflix on July 24. Since landing on the service, the second season has flown to #3 on the Netflix Top Ten and been viewed more than three million times. The second season focuses on Dream and his epic final journey as he seeks to rebuild his kingdom following his dramatic battle with Doctor John Dee. However, the show has been marred by accusations against Gaiman, which sent shockwaves through his fan base earlier this year. Despite that, the show has remained extremely popular with its fans, even causing them to 'call in sick' so they can watch it. In an announcement that came in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations levied against Gaiman, who co-developed the show from his comics. Ahead of the season, Netflix released a teaser trailer for The Sandman season two, which did not mention Gaiman by name. Allan Heinberg, the Sandman showrunner, also avoided mentioning Gaiman or the allegations against him when he shared a statement about the show's conclusion. 'The Sandman series has always been focused exclusively on Dream's story, and back in 2022, when we looked at the remaining Dream material from the comics, we knew we only had enough story for one more season,' he told Netflix's Tudum. More Trending Several of Gaiman's upcoming projects have been cancelled or delayed in the wake of the allegations. Most notably, we're still waiting to find out when season 3 of the Prime Video show Good Omens will air, while Dark Horse Comics has cancelled Gaiman's Anansi Boys series. Netflix fans 'can't think straight' after binge-watching 'incredible' drama
The series dropped on Netflix yesterday, and fans have been staying up until the early hours to finish it, with some admitting they 'cried a lot'. Netflix enthusiasts have been burning the midnight oil to binge-watch the second part of The Sandman season 2, which made its debut on the streaming service just yesterday. The concluding volume of the show's latest season has left viewers "in tears", with some fans confessing they "won't be able to think straight for a long time". Adapted from Neil Gaiman's acclaimed comic book series, The Sandman chronicles the journey of Morpheus, the Master of Dreams, as he endeavours to reclaim his kingdom's former splendour. The Netflix series' blurb states: "When the Sandman, aka Dream, the cosmic being who controls all dreams, is captured and held prisoner for more than a century, he must journey across different worlds and timelines to fix the chaos his absence has caused." Tom Sturridge's portrayal of the eponymous character has garnered applause, and the series boasts a glittering cast including Game of Thrones alumni Gwendoline Christie and Charles Dance, alongside Doctor Who alumna Jenna Coleman. Fans took to X, the platform previously known as Twitter, to express their feelings about the latest instalment of The Sandman season 2. One fan exclaimed: "Whoa! Whoa! #TheSandmanSeason2 was incredible, and I am so excited for the bonus episode coming out July 31." Another viewer posted: "So I finished watching season 2. It was a long journey that I will never forget. It's an amazing show, and amazing people working on it. I will never be the same after this, and I cried a lot of tears. I don't think I will be able to think straight for a long time." Another fan gushed: "Finished all V2 episodes in one sitting... It's almost 7am. It was so good. Tom Sturridge did an amazing job as Dream. The entire cast and team are REALLY some of the best, I cannot remember the last time a show left such an impact on me." An emotional viewer shared: "The last few episodes of Sandman were incredibly emotional. Even though I knew how the story would end, I still couldn't hold back my tears. A huge thank you to Tom Sturridge for being the best Morpheus imaginable." Rumours swirled that Netflix cancelled The Sandman after two seasons due to the scandal, but showrunner Allan Heinberg has clarified that the decision for a two-season arc was made prior to filming the second series, reports the Express. "The Sandman series has always been focused exclusively on Dream's story, and back in 2022, when we looked at the remaining Dream material from the comics, we knew we only had enough story for one more season," he explained on X. Heinberg expressed gratitude towards Netflix for reuniting the team and providing the necessary support to create a faithful adaptation that aims to both surprise and satisfy the comic's dedicated fans and new viewers alike. The Sandman is now exclusively available for streaming on Netflix.

The Sandman Season 2 Post-Credits Scene Explained: What Does Fate's Poetry Indicate?
Last Updated: The Sandman Season 2 post-credits scene saw the Kindly Ones, also known as the Fates, recite a poem after Morpheus' death. Netflix's The Sandman Season 2 Volume 2 ended with a poetic post-credits scene. The makers ended the series, based on Neil Gaiman's graphic novels of the same name, with this season, bidding goodbye to Morpheus (Tom Sturridge) and the rest of his siblings. However, the conclusion suggests that Dream's story is far from over. The scene features a cryptic poem which carries a deep meaning about the Endless and their lives. After the emotional death of Morpheus (aka Dream of the Endless) in episode 11, the Fate Mother, Fate Maiden, and Fate Crone, collectively known as the Kindly Ones, can be seen in a dim setup, sipping tea and opening up while cracking a fortune cookie. Nina Wadia, Dinita Gohil and Souad Faress essay the roles of the goddesses. This echoes another moment in season 2 when one of the fates read the fortune, mentioning, 'I do love to hear fortunes." Soon, when Fate Maiden reads, 'A king will forsake his kingdom. Life and death will clash and fray. The oldest battle begins once more," she adds, 'We've had this one before, haven't we?" In response, the Fate mother says, 'It's definitely familiar, dearie. Right. I think that's gone on long enough." Interrupting this, Fate Crone mentions, 'Well, you're too soft. Much too soft, both of you." The prophecy is fulfilled when Morpheus kills his son, Orpheus, spilling the family blood and inviting the wrath of the Kindly Ones upon him. Dream dies at the end of season 2. Fate's Poetry In The Sandman Season 2 Post-Credits Scene With Morpheus's death, Daniel Hall rises as the new Dream, and the post-credit scene then follows the reading of a cryptic poem which says: 'Flowers gathered in the morning; Afternoon, they blossom on; Still are withered in the evening; You can be me when I'm gone." Meaning Of Fate's Poetry In The Sandman Season 2 Post-Credits Scene While one of the Fates casually dismisses it as 'a bad poem," it carries a significant meaning about the life-death-rebirth cycle. The poem has been taken directly from The Sandman Vol. 9: The Kindly Ones. Tied to Dream's arc in the show, the poem offers a quiet reflection of the themes of fate and consequence, as well as planting seeds for the future of the Dreaming. The tone is calm, contrasting with the chaos of the show and packed with rich symbolism. The words imply that even the Endless are not immune from transformation and change, a fact that is reinforced by Daniel assuming the role of Dream. The Sandman – Season 2 Episode 10 'Long Live The King' Recap & Review
Episode 10 Episode 10 of The Sandman Season 2 begins with Lyta killing Able. She seems to come back to herself when the sword leaves her hand. The Fates push her to pick it up and she's a puppet once more. The next targets are Mervyn and Matthew. Merv shoots at the four women with a gun but the bullets ricochet and kill him. Corinthian, Daniel, Cain and Lucienne hide in the throne room and Matthew barely makes it back to them. Morpheus is still stuck in Faerie and Titania offers him sanctuary. But Nuala uses her boon to make him go back to his realm. He returns just in time to save his palace gatekeepers. He invites the ladies in and reunites Lyta with Daniel. The Fates freeze her and claim he's not human anymore. Morpheus temporarily frees Lyta from their influence but she's still stuck in the Dreaming. The desperate Fates insist that she has pretty much lost her son and needs to avenge him. And it seems that without Lyta, the Fates have to back down till the next person petitions for his death. Morpheus rushes the Waking World to kill Lyta but finds Hettie protecting her. She has a deal – she meddles for the Fate and they keep her alive. She argues that Morpheus is not a murderer and Daniel won't co-operate if his mother has been killed. Morpheus realises that she is right. In Faerie, Nuala wants to go to the Dreaming and begs Cluracan to remove her glamour. He doesn't want her to die as he has no one. However, he acquiesces and they have a bittersweet farewell. On Earth, Goldie and Delirium attract attention as they search for Barnabas. She turns Goldie into a balloon and believes it's a strong disguise. Back in the Dreaming, Morpheus tells his subjects that he's going to the Furthest edge of the Dreaming to do what must be done. They realise that this is the end and they have a tearful parting. But Matthew sticks by him even though he may not make it either. He calls the ladies and it starts raining as they arrive. Daniel, Lucienne, Cain and Corinthian hide in the throne room and try to check on Morpheus. Death shows up and decides to wait with them. As for Morpheus' plan, he's had enough of the women hurting his subjects and destroying his realm. He offers to fight them head on. The Fates simply taunt him as Lyta wreaks havoc on the realm which weakens Morpheus. Realising that there's no other way, he sends Matthew to bring Death. Meanwhile, Titania gives Nuala a sword and encourages her to go to Morpheus' side, convinced that the fae only has the Dream King's best interest at heart. Death arrives at the Edge and wonders why Morpheus has given up. He reveals that not only does he want to pay for his son's murder, the Dreaming is also his cage. He cannot abandon his responsibilities even though he wants to. Before he can take Death's hand, Nuala arrives and removes Lyta from the Dreaming. A light glows between Death and Morpheus' hands. Goldie disappears. Hettie has been taking care of Barnabas and they find Delirium. Hettie apologises for Delirium's loss and Barnabas is curious. Delirium reveals that she cannot feel Morpheus anymore. Hettie goes home to find Lyta who wants Daniel back. However, Hettie claims that Lyta has lost her chance – Daniel can never be hers now that she has destroyed Morpheus. In the Dreaming, the realm repairs itself. The subjects wonder whose doing it is and we see a grown-up Daniel (cameo by Jacob Anderson) who is the new Dream. The Episode Review The penultimate episode is a bit of a mixed bag, much like the rest of Volume 2. It ends up dragging its runtime as the episode constantly flits between Lyta wreaking havoc, the Fates taunting Morpheus, Morpheus repeating his same goodbye speech and everyone constantly commenting on how he has changed. Yes, we get it, he's become a good being, compassionate with a moral compass. It's been hammered in since Season 1. Instead, The Sandman Season 2 Episode 10 could have had a crisper version of Morpheus vs the Fates and then explored some of the mini stories. The Faes are quite underutilised with the way they scheme but are also sincere as seen with Puck, Cluracan and even Queen Titania. Delirium's quest literally just had 2 short scenes while the rest of the supporting Endless like Desire don't even show their face. There's so much potential and it's quite disappointing that the Netflix adaptation got greedy and chose to cram as much as they could of the source material instead of focusing on good story-telling.
