Shakti Mohan recalls her bike accident at age 4, doctors said she ‘won't be able to walk ever': ‘Mom suggested plastic surgery for my leg scars, who will marry her?'
Dancer-choreographer Shakti Mohan recently recalled a serious childhood accident during an appearance on SCREEN's The Suvin Saran Show. She shared that after breaking her leg, doctors initially told her she would never be able to walk again. Shakti also opened up about facing judgmental comments regarding her marriage prospects due to the scars on her leg.
Speaking about the horrific road accident, the dancer said, 'I was crossing the street across my house in Delhi. I was getting Mukti from the nursery school and I was so excited to show her something that I started running and a bike ran over my leg. My leg and back was broken so badly that the doctors told my parents that she won't be able to ever walk in life. I was 4 years old. It broke brutally and I still have marks over my legs. I remember it very clearly. I could not even sit up for seven months.'

As a child, Shakti Mohan had no idea about what was going on and her mom was the driving force to motivate her to walk later on. She shared, 'My mom now says that 'Of course, doctor said that you were not supposed to walk, because you were supposed to fly.' Full filmy family! I slowly started to walk after 6-7 months. My mom never gave up, she made me do it. I was so little. I didn't even know what has happened to me. I was just happy that I didn't have to go to school and people were giving me chocolates on home visits.'
However, Shakti added that her mother, influenced by societal pressure, initially suggested plastic surgery for the scars, but she never wanted to proceed with it. 'I had some people say that 'Who will marry you with these scars?' I didn't care. I didn't even think about it. Then, my parents used to think that there are too many people who have conservative thoughts ki 'Inki toh shaadi karvaani hai.' My mom said that we will get her plastic surgery done. I never thought of it, didn't want it. I own my scars, I love it,' she said.
