The Paper Trailer Out: The Office Spin-Off Looks ‘Incredible'
The Paper promises a fresh workplace comedy, following a chaotic newspaper crew trying to save their sinking publication. Peacock has dropped the trailer for The Paper, a new comedy series from The Office creators Greg Daniels and Michael Koman. The show will premiere on September 4, and although it is not set in the world of Dunder Mifflin, it carries the same quirky, mockumentary style with numerous nods to the iconic Steve Carell series. Instead of a paper company, The Paper follows a struggling local newspaper, The Toledo Truthteller. The story blends workplace chaos, eccentric characters, and sharp humour, just like The Office, but with a fresh setting and new challenges. A Dying Newspaper in Trouble In the series, The Toledo Truthteller is on the verge of collapse. Quality journalism has taken a back seat, replaced by sensational clickbait headlines, one editor even boasts about running a story titled: 'You Won't Believe How Much Ben Affleck Tipped His Limo Driver." The managing editor, Esmeralda, has lost sight of traditional reporting, and readership numbers are plummeting. Just when things seem hopeless, a new editor-in-chief, Ned Sampson (played by Domhnall Gleeson), is hired to turn things around. Inexperienced Staff, Big Challenges Ned Sampson quickly realises he has a bigger problem: his seven newly recruited reporters have little to no experience. One hasn't written anything meaningful since junior high, while the other's only writing skill lies in crafting tweets. Despite the lack of qualified staff, Ned has no choice but to work with what he has, given the paper's dire financial state. The show utilises this mismatched team as the heart of its comedy, exploring how they attempt to revive a struggling newsroom with almost no resources or expertise. A Familiar Yet Fresh Cast The cast is a mix of familiar and fresh faces. Domhnall Gleeson leads as Ned Sampson, while The Office fans will spot Oscar Nunez reprising his comedic charm. Other cast members include Chelsea Frei, Sabrina Impacciatore and Alex Edelman. With The Office becoming a cultural phenomenon thanks to stars like Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer and Rainn Wilson, expectations are high. From the trailer, it looks like Greg Daniels is ready to bring another funny workplace show; this time about a newspaper instead of a paper company.
