Airline to launch new ‘beer festival' flights from the UK next month
OKTOBERFEST lovers will be happy to hear that a major airline is launching flights from the UK to the beer festival next month. Each flight will depart from London Stansted at 7:50pm and arrive in Munich at around 10:30pm local time. Oktoberfest will officially kick off in the European city on September 20 and will then run until October 5 at Theresienwiese Park. Simon Gorrighan, London Stansted's aviation director, said: "We are delighted to welcome Lufthansa back to London Stansted to once again offer people from across our region an easy and convenient way to experience the world-famous Oktoberfest in Munich. "Oktoberfest dates back to 1810 and is considered the largest beer festival in the world with over six million visitors each year so we know flights will be in high demand." The beer festival has attracted tourists for decades and become a major annual event in Europe. Around seven million people visit the drinks festival each year, with around 85 per cent of that number being German attendees. Most visitors will also dress up in traditional Bavarian clothes - lederhosen for guys and dirndls for girls. Outside the beer tents, the entire festival has a carnival vibe with games, rides and even haunted houses. All the tents at the festival are free to enter, with beer typically costing around €12 (£10.40). And there are so many tents to explore, such as Marstall which can host over 3,400 people. Alternatively, you can head to Armbrustschützen-Festhalle which even features a crossbow competition that has been running since 1895. Food varies in price, with meals costing between €10 (£8.67) and €20 (£17.34) on average. But if you do want a traditional sausage or bratwurst, you can grab one for around €6 (£5.20). German police shoot and kill female knife attacker
A woman has been shot dead by police at the Theresienwiese in Munich after she attacked and injured at least two people with a knife, according to information obtained by the DPA news agency. The police said officers fired at the 30-year-old, who was then taken to hospital. According to information from DPA, she succumbed to her injuries there although the police initially did not confirm this. The police said the woman initially injured a man with a knife in the area behind the Theresienwiese, home to the world famous Oktoberfest. Shortly afterwards, she injured another woman with the knife. The condition of the two was not immediately known. It was also unclear whether the woman had any connection to them. Several patrols were dispatched to arrest the woman, who continued to wield the knife. Police then opened fire. The number of shots fired could not initially be determined, according to police. The woman was taken from the scene to a Munich hospital. There was no danger to the general public, police said in a brief initial statement to the media in the evening. The case brings back memories of an incident at Hamburg's main train station about two weeks ago: a woman randomly stabbed people on a platform for long-distance trains that was crowded with passengers. According to police, 18 people were injured in the attack. Officers arrested the 39-year-old woman and a magistrate ordered her placement in a psychiatric clinic.

Woman, 30, shot dead by armed cops after ‘attacking two people with knife' in square used for Oktoberfest
A 30-YEAR-OLD woman has been shot dead by armed cops after attacking people with a knife in a square used for Oktoberfest. The perpetrator reportedly stabbed a 56-year-old man before then attacking a 25-year-old woman in Theresienwiese, Munich. 2 2 Cops shot the attacker - who is said to be Bulgarian - with a service weapon on the corner of St Pauls Square and Bavariang. She died in the hospital after undergoing emergency surgery, Bild reports. The area currently remains cordoned off to the public with armed cops alongside Munich's Criminal Investigation Department at the scene. Sniffer dogs are also on the hunt for any clues while bandages were harrowingly seen on the ground at the Oktoberfest site. The motive behind the attack remains unknown. Joachim Herrman, Bavaria's Interior Minister, told Bild: "I am very grateful to the Munich police for their swift intervention and stopping the knife attacker. "Her death is regrettable, but unfortunately, it was probably unavoidable." According to cops, the victims suffered "minor injuries".
