Too busy to work out? I added thousands of steps to my day using this simple trick

Walking is often recommended as one of the simplest ways to improve your health. It's been linked to a longer lifespan, better metabolism and a more balanced mood. But even though we know it's good for us, finding time to move more during the day can sometimes feel impossible. If your job keeps you glued to a desk or you're always rushing between tasks, getting in those extra steps might be the last thing on your mind. I decided to walk more during the workday. It felt like an easy win. No gym membership, no equipment, just a straightforward way to break up long stretches of sitting. I even wear one of the best fitness trackers to keep an eye on my step count, but still find it hard to make walking a consistent habit without setting aside time I don't have. When I first heard the term "habit stacking," I thought it was just another wellness buzzword. I imagined advice telling me to wake up at 5 AM, drink greens, work out, journal and meditate before breakfast. But it's actually much more approachable. Habit stacking means linking a new habit to something you already do; for me, it turned out to be the easiest way to walk more without changing my whole routine. If you struggle to build new habits that actually stick, you're not alone. That's where habit stacking comes in. The idea is simple: you add a new habit onto something you already do every day. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. It doesn't have to be walking. It could be drinking a glass of water while your usual morning coffee brews or doing a short mobility routine while catching up with your favorite TV show. The concept was popularized by James Clear in his book Atomic Habits, but it originally came from BJ Fogg's Tiny Habits program. His approach focuses on creating small, positive changes by linking new behaviors to existing routines. It works because the brain loves patterns. When you tie a new habit to an existing one, it strengthens the mental connection between them, making the new action feel more automatic over time. But can I back this up with my own experience? Here's how I used habit stacking to increase my step count. Getting to work, running errands, meeting friends, or heading to appointments are all part of a typical week for me. If you also usually default to public transport, it's worth checking if you could walk instead, even just for part of the journey. That simple swap helped me fit more movement into my week without needing to block out extra time. Walking between commitments gave me space to reset, clear my head and arrive feeling more focused. It also made me feel less rushed and more present than sitting on a crowded train or bus. If your route is too long to walk in full, try getting public transport halfway and walking the rest. You could also walk there and catch a bus or train back. Small tweaks like this can make it easier to hit your step goal and feel more energized throughout the day. I started thinking about my daily habits and where walking could naturally fit in. At one point, I considered investing in one of the best under-desk treadmills so I could walk while working. It's a great option if you're often tied to your desk and want to move more without heading outside. I decided I didn't want to spend money just to increase my steps, but it's still worth checking out if that setup suits your routine. Instead, I looked at where I was already spending time on my phone, mainly checking in with friends and family. Rather than doing that from the sofa, I grabbed my headphones and headed to the park. I'd walk and talk, or send voice notes, and before I knew it, I'd clocked up a couple of thousand steps. If you work from home, walking meetings are another simple way to move more. You could take non-video calls on the go, especially those that don't require note-taking. Research shows that walking meetings can help boost creativity, plus, the fresh air makes for a welcome change from sitting at a desk all day. I've run two marathons, and one of my favorite things about long training runs was the uninterrupted time to listen to podcasts. Those hours on my feet gave me a rare chance to tune in without distractions. After finishing my most recent race, I noticed that space in my day had disappeared, so I decided to bring the ritual back by pairing my podcast habit with a daily walk. There's something really grounding about getting outside, moving your body and listening to something that either makes you laugh or teaches you something new. I listen to a lot of food podcasts, so I often come back with a head full of recipe ideas or a mental grocery list. If you're into food too, Off Menu is a must. On days when I need a motivational push, The Mel Robbins Podcast always helps shift my mindset.

Sophie Turner supports ex-husband Joe Jonas' divorce-inspired album: ‘Go go Joe'

Sophie Turner seems to be rooting for her ex-husband Joe Jonas, months after finalising their divorce and moving on with their lives. On May 24, the actor took to her Instagram Story, giving a shoutout to the singer for his next solo album, Music for People Who Believe in Love. It may have looked casual, but fans noticed and took it as a big deal considering their history. The album dropped on May 23. This marks the singer's comeback after over 15 years, and, interestingly, a lot of the songs are inspired by his relationship with Sophie and their divorce. She attached a cover picture of the album and a Spotify streaming link of the same. The album has some standout tracks, including the one titled 'Work It Out' that dropped in July last year, months before the couple announced their split. Another track, titled 'Hey Beautiful' with Louane and Tiny Habits, features heartfelt lyrics like, 'Just in case a day comes, I'm not next to you / I went and cut a deal with all the stars / And, when you wish upon them, you can call it proof / I'll be with you wherever you are.' The song is dedicated to his kids, Willa (4) and Delphine (2). The second-oldest Jonas brother released his first solo album, Fastlife, in 2011, following which he largely focused on group-related activities. Speaking about his new album to PEOPLE, Joe Jonas revealed he hadn't planned to make a new album. He and his brothers (the Jonas Brothers) were originally writing songs together for their group. But one particular song felt really personal to Joe. 'I just felt so drawn to this one song, and I asked the guys for approval. I was like, 'Hey, can I please take this one and maybe just explore where this could go for myself?' It felt very personal,' he said. Also read: Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner officially divorced after year-long custody battle for daughters For the new album, Joe teamed up with songwriters Justin Trainor, Alexander 23, and Lush and in just about two weeks, they made the whole album. Joe said he was so excited that he wanted to drop the album last year only. 'I was eager to get it out for a while there. I think last year at some point, I called my manager, I was like, 'Can I just leak the album or put it out?' I was like, 'I'm tired of waiting,' he recalled. But he's glad he waited. If he hadn't, his newest single, 'Heart by Heart,' wouldn't have made it into the album. For Joe Jonas, this album is very personal. Speaking to Billboard in August 2024, the singer described the feeling as 'scary but freeing' to open up about such an emotional period in his life. At the time, the rumours of trouble in paradise had already made it to the headlines, however, the singer clarified that he's not trying to attack anyone in the songs or air dirty laundry. 'I was going through a lot of life changes, finding out who I was as a person and father and friend, and living under the microscope of what the music industry can be. And I think, at such a crazy time in my life, I looked to music as an outlet,' he said. Joe Jonas, in a recent interview with Facebook's TalkShopLive, opened up about how tough it was to start dating again. He called it 'scary and intimidating,' revealing that he did start dating someone again, and during a conversation, that person jokingly told him, 'It's only love.' And it clicked. That line actually inspired the song 'Only Love' on the new album. Meanwhile, Sophie Turner also talked about how the split affected her. In a previous interview with a magazine, the actor said she is restricted from revealing much about the personal details but called it 'the worst few days of my life.' Sophie had reportedly started dating British aristocrat Peregrine Pearson after the divorce, but that relationship ended too.

Joe Jonas debuts his new album, 'Music for People Who Believe in Love.' It's his first solo release since 2011.

Joe Jonas fans have a reason to celebrate: His new album is officially here. Released on May 23, Music for People Who Believe in Love comes nearly a year after Jonas first announced the album. Boasting singles 'Work It Out,' 'What This Could Be' and 'Heart by Heart,' the 14-track album also marks Jonas's first solo project since 2011's Fastlife. With assists from Americana singer-songwriter Sierra Ferrell, folk-pop group Tiny Habits, jazz duo Domi and JD Beck, and Brazilian pop singer Luísa Sonza, Music for People Who Believe in Love captures Jonas at his most adventurous, musically speaking. 'Happy album release day to all who celebrate. Last night was so special and not a phone in sight,' Jonas joked on X alongside a photo of him on stage in the hours leading up to Friday's midnight release. The 35-year-old singer played tracks from the album for fans in Miami, and he'll do the same for fans in New York City on May 25 at the Bowery Ballroom. Eager to show their support for the Jonas brother, fans were quick to share their initial reactions to the album, even declaring that it'll be 'a music for people who believe in love kind of summer.' 'The beauty and vulnerability Joe put into this album is so pure and real, not every artist has the ability to show these aspects of their personal lives but Joe does it so well,' a fan named Gabby shared in a TikTok video. 'I connect with each and every song, some way shape or form, on insanely deep levels.' Some of Jonas's fans immediately flocked to Target to purchase the exclusive vinyl pressing of the album. 'First in Target for @joejonas Music For People Who Believe In Love!' Jonas fan Paige Nicole shared on TikTok. Lauren Flores, another fan on TikTok, revealed that she'll 'be listening to [the album] until further notice.' Jonas's brothers also congratulated the 'Honey Blonde' singer. 'Congrats on this extraordinary release @joejonas. I love this album,' Nick wrote on his Instagram Story. Kevin also posted about the album on his Instagram Story, writing, 'So incredibly proud of your hard work and dedication @joejonas.' Younger brother Franklin Jonas, who is featured on 'Velvet Sunshine,' the eighth track on the album, captioned an Instagram post, 'So excited and grateful to be apart of @joejonas new album with the song Velvet Sunshine. So proud of him and this amazing project.' Jonas performed 'Heart by Heart,' his latest single, during the Season 27 finale of The Voice on May 20 — the same day he stopped by The Kelly Clarkson Show to discuss the album. His first solo endeavor in over a decade, Jonas opened up about how Music for People Who Believe in Love is a chance to focus on himself — separate from Jonas Brothers, his pop trio with brothers Nick and Kevin, and DNCE, his dance-rock band. 'It's my time,' Jonas told the American Idol alum. The Camp Rock star also previewed some of the new tracks at an intimate show in Los Angeles on May 19. Jonas enlisted help from familiar faces, including songwriting sister-duo Aly & AJ, who performed a heartfelt rendition of their hit song 'No One' with Jonas. The singer debuted the music video for 'Heart by Heart' on May 15. The three-minute video sees the singer awkwardly run into an ex-girlfriend in New York City's West Village. The impromptu run-in puts Jonas in his feelings, as he's flooded with memories from their relationship. Following the initial album announcement in July 2024, Jonas revealed that the LP features songs that 'reflect on my life from a bird's-eye view acknowledging the many blessings around me.' 'When we take a moment to breathe, pause, and reflect on our positives, my hope is that we can find acceptance and ultimately peace in the present moment,' Jonas said in a press release. 'It's okay to cry and mourn a loss — it's part of the process to take care of ourselves and eventually enables us to be there for the people we care about.' Music for People Who Believe in Love, added Jonas, speaks to his 'experiences of being a father, being a friend to oneself and others, and the happiness I've found in doing what I love for a living.' Jonas shares two daughters, Willa and Delphine, with his ex-wife, Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner. While Jonas previously told Billboard that the album isn't meant to 'put stuff on blast' or 'come for anyone,' he did admit that their very public divorce influenced his approach as a songwriter. 'I was going through a lot of life changes,' he added, 'finding out who I was as a person and father and friend, and living under the microscope of what the music industry can be. And I think, at such a crazy time in my life, I looked to music as an outlet.' Next up for Jonas? This summer, he'll be releasing his seventh studio album with his brothers Nick and Kevin. Jonas Brothers' Greetings from Your Hometown is out Aug. 8.
