Arsenal suffer blow as star could be out until December
Arsenal have suffered a blow to their summer sale ambitions as the injury suffered by Takehiro Tomiyasu has halted potential plans to sell him, according to the Daily Mail. The Gunners star has undergone surgery on his knee and his recovery could extend until December, ruling out an exit for him from the North London club this year. Arsenal initially wanted to see how Tomiyasu would fare upon his planned return from injury before making a decision on his future at the end of the season, but the medical team decided he needed a second knee operation, and he is not expected to return until the end of 2025. The Japan international is out of contract at the end of next season, and he could have had the chance to prove himself and earn a new deal had he not gone under the knife again. Tomiyasu missed the start of the season as a result of an operation, only returning to action last October when he came off the bench against Southampton having recovered from a long-term knee injury. The 26-year-old could end up leaving Arsenal for free as he will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with a rival club from January 2026, which would be a huge blow for the club. Gabriel Jesus is also in a similar situation as he continues to recover from an ACL injury. The Gunners would have listened to offers for the Brazilian international at the end of the season, but his rehabilitation is due to extend into the end of 2025. As a result, their chances of selling Jesus in the summer are as slim as they come, and they will have to look elsewhere to boost their coffers. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta needs to bolster his squad in the summer, and major sales could be necessary to get that done. With Tomiyasu and Jesus seemingly off the market, they could be forced to sell an established star to help fund purchases having reportedly wondered for a few years if they would have to.

Arsenal Injury Update: Latest on Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and More
As Arsenal intensifies their pursuit of Liverpool in the Premier League title race, their squad depth is being tested due to a series of unfortunate injuries. The latest updates bring a mixed bag of news for the Gunners as they face crucial fixtures ahead. Arsenal's dynamic winger, Bukayo Saka, has been sidelined since December following a hamstring tear. Initially expected to be out until March, the club recently sparked hope among fans with images of Saka working out in a gym in Dubai. Despite the excitement, Manager Mikel Arteta remains cautious about rushing his return. 'In a long-term injury, a week is not much,' Arteta noted, emphasizing the importance of Saka's rehabilitation phase. The club is hopeful for his potential involvement in the Champions League or the crucial league match against Manchester United in early March. Gabriel Martinelli, another key figure in Arsenal's attack, suffered a hamstring injury during a match at St James' Park. Forced off in the first half, Martinelli now faces a race against time to be fit for the Champions League and upcoming Premier League clashes, with a tentative return slated for March. His absence will be felt in the games against West Ham and Nottingham Forest, putting additional pressure on Arsenal's attacking options. Defender Takehiro Tomiyasu's season has been marred by injuries, limiting him to just six minutes of play this season. After undergoing knee surgery, Tomiyasu is not expected to return until the end of the year. Despite the setbacks, he remains optimistic about his recovery. 'It has been the toughest period in my career for sure… but I won't give up,' Tomiyasu stated, reflecting his resilience and determination to return to the pitch. Kai Havertz, who suffered a hamstring injury in training, is out for the season following successful surgery. The striker shared his progress on social media, expressing his mental and physical challenges while looking forward to supporting his team from the sidelines. His targeted return is set for the start of the 2025-26 season, aiming for a full recovery over the summer. The absence of key players like Saka, Martinelli, and Tomiyasu presents significant challenges for Arteta as Arsenal enter a critical phase of their season. The team's depth and the manager's tactical adjustments will be crucial in maintaining their competitive edge in both domestic and European competitions. As the Gunners navigate through these testing times, the support and gradual integration of injured players will be pivotal in their quest for silverware. Fans will be eagerly watching the recovery progress and hoping for timely comebacks as Arsenal aim to close the gap at the top of the table.

Takehiro Tomiyasu injury: Arsenal reveal timeline for return after defender undergoes knee surgery
Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu will miss the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery. Tomiyasu has made just one appearance all season after coming off the bench against Southampton for the final six minutes of a 3-1 win. The Japan international has been troubled by a knee issue and has undergone surgery to resolve it. Tomiyasu, who announced on Tuesday night he had gone under the knife, will not be back before the end of the season. 'I've had a surgery on my knee few days ago and I've already started my rehab to do what I love the most again,' Tomiyasu said in an Instagram post. 'It has been the toughest period in my career for sure and it carries on a bit more but I won't give up. Thank you for your support and see you again.' Tomiyasu being out has been a blow for Arsenal as the defender is versatile and able to play anywhere across the backline. The 26-year-old excelled last season at left-back, but he has also featured regularly for Arsenal on the opposite flank, too. 'I always say that I'm really confident the moment Tomi has consistency, because it's going to be a tremendous asset for us,' Mikel Arteta said last season. 'He can play in any position in the backline, any formation in the backline — we don't have a player like him. 'His defending is probably one of the best that I've seen in many situations. When Tomi is at his best, we're going to have a player who is going to be so important for us.' Arsenal say Tomiyasu's recovery and rehabilitation programme, is 'expected to be completed towards the end of this year.' An Arsenal statement reads: "Takehiro Tomiyasu has undergone a successful surgery on the right knee issue which he first sustained in pre-season. "Despite an initial surgical procedure in August, followed by a return to full training, and featuring as a substitute in our home Premier League match against Southampton in October, Tomi continued to have issues with his knee, resulting in a further corrective surgical procedure. "Tomi will now begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme, which is expected to be completed towards the end of this year." When Tomi is at his best, we're going to have a player who is going to be so important for us Mikel Arteta Arsenal have been hit especially hard by injuries in defence this season, but they have at least been boosted by the recent return of Ben White. White underwent knee surgery in November, however he returned to the squad last week and was on the bench for Arsenal's 2-0 win at Leicester. Arsenal will look to gradually build up the 27-year-old's minutes due to him being out of action for an extended period of time.
