Transfer news LIVE: Spurs attempt HIJACK of Mbeumo move, Newcastle set to ‘rescue' Grealish, Reijnders to have medical

Greal good chance for him Newcastle will try to rescue Jack Grealish from his Manchester City hell - but only on loan, SunSport can exclusively reveal. The Toon are keen on Grealish, 29, who is on his way out of the Etihad. The £100million man was snubbed when City named their Fifa Club World Cup squad. Magpies boss Eddie Howe will turn his interest into an approach if City look at sending Grealish and his £300,000-a-week wages elsewhere for the season. And that will become even more of a Newcastle priority if offers come in for Anthony Gordon over the summer.

Newcastle add golden ticket of Champions League return to silverware

Newcastle United's players entered St James' Park into an atmosphere at boiling point with a message stretched across the entire length of the famous Gallowgate End outlining what was at stake."You Entered The Pitch As Players. You Left It As Legends" was emblazoned on a giant banner as the club's quest to reach the Champions League went to the final stages against and manager Eddie Howe got there in the end to go some way towards that status – but it did not go smoothly as side were a pale shadow of their usual vibrant selves as Everton shut out the deafening noise sweeping down from the Toon Army to deservedly win 1-0, Newcastle riddled with nerves and tension throughout, the mood spreading to the for 11 anxious minutes in the second half, in the time it took Carlos Alcaraz to head Everton in front after 65 minutes and until former Sunderland forward Amad Diallo put Manchester United ahead against Aston Villa at Old Trafford to return Newcastle to the top five, it looked like they would be leaving the pitch the end, all was well that ended well as they added the golden ticket of a return to the Champions League to the silver, with their first domestic trophy in 70 years and first success of any kind since 1969 following the Carabao Cup final triumph against then, some Newcastle players were clearly unaware of events at Old Trafford when the final whistle signalled defeat, Tino Livramento and others slumping to the turf in dismay, looking like they believed the place in Europe's elite competition had been Aston Villa's controversial loss had been confirmed, the Champions League anthem sounded around St James Park, full-scale elation breaking out among Howe, his players and their families, and the anxiety, and the many televised shots of Newcastle's supporters biting their nails, was forgotten as they went through their full Champions League song-sheet in readiness for next season. Despite the anti-climax of this performance, it capped a superb season for Newcastle and their inspirational manager start to their campaign was overshadowed by financial uncertainly as Howe became a reluctant seller to avoid the club breaking profit and sustainability rules. It has ended in glory, with the estimated £100m riches of the Champions League flooding into the notion of Newcastle winning silverware and qualifying for the Champions League seemed a distant prospect during those troubled times.A transfer of England forward Anthony Gordon to Liverpool was considered, while there was a concern a £100m buy-out clause for Brazil midfield man Bruno Guimaraes might also be offer came from Anfield for boyhood Liverpool fan Gordon, nor for Guimaraes, so it was talented young duo Yankuba Minteh and Elliott Anderson who were sacrificed to Brighton and Nottingham Forest add to Howe's frustration, the summer-long pursuit of Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi also ended in failure, with no deal done and the England defender remaining at Selhurst though, managed the instability superbly, recovering from an indifferent start to lead his side to that long-awaited trophy, then changing the club's landscape even further by taking them back into the Champions has been a remarkable piece of management, clearing away any clouds of uncertainty still lingering at St James' Howe sounded in the mood to move Newcastle forward in a significant manner when he discussed this summer's transfer business."Yes, it is going to be a big transfer window," he said. "It's difficult to say on numbers, but I do think it's a window that we have to be active in and I'm sure we will be."We haven't recruited strongly in three windows and I think eventually, that can catch up with you in the end if you continue not to change, because change is an important part of the squad dynamic."I think we feel that, and I think, we potentially felt that last summer as well, so I think that's why the players have done so well to carry the success through."Newcastle's resolve – which in their defence has never wavered – to keep outstanding striker Alexander Isak may just have been tested had they failed to finish in the top five. Now the Swede has the stage he craves, and which his ability deserves. Talk of a new contract will replace any speculation about a same will apply to coveted, and influential, midfield duo Guimaraes and Sandro Murphy, at 30, finally fulfilled the potential Howe believed he had with eight goals and 12 assists in 30 Premier League games, while Isak, inevitably, was the spearhead with 23 goals and adding six assists in 34 league the heart of it all is Howe, whose legendary status on Tyneside has been cemented even further by this landmark and memorable believes Newcastle will be in better shape following their last Champions League appearance during the 2023-24 campaign, when they had an outstanding 4-1 home win over French champions Paris St-Germain but failed to reach the knockout phase."The experience we had there the first time will help us no end, I think," admitted Howe."We felt we grew through the competition, so I think we are stronger. I think we are better prepared both physically and mentally for the competition ahead."Newcastle have already had one big parade and party for the Carabao Cup success. The celebrations on Sunday may not reach those heights, but the significance of what has been achieved, albeit with their season ending in defeat, cannot be underestimated.

Liverpool fans convinced Man Utd have cost them Alexander Isak transfer after VAR controversy helps Red Devils to win

LIVERPOOL may have got their hands on the Premier League trophy on Sunday afternoon, but their fans are convinced they also lost out on one of their biggest transfer targets - Alexander Isak. Reds supporters reckon that it was Manchester United that cost them the chance to snatch Isak away from Newcastle in the summer. 7 Liverpool are in the market for a new striker during the summer window as they look to bolster their front line. And Isak is one of the top targets for the Anfield outfit - and many other sides - given his superb form in the Premier League this season for the Magpies. But it looks like an exit from St James' Park could be unlikely after Eddie Howe 's side secured a fifth placed finish in the Prem, meaning they will play in the Champions League next term. Reports had claimed that Isak could leave Newcastle if they hadn't returned to Europe's top table, but their qualification now means that he is more likely to stay put with the Toon Army. And Liverpool fans were devastated, having been close to seeing Newcastle miss out as they fell to a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Everton. But they didn't need to win, with Aston Villa losing 2-0 to Manchester United meaning Newcastle still managed to qualify for the Champions League. And when Liverpool supporters realised they had lost out on their main target thanks to rivals Man Utd, they immediately took to social media to express their displeasure. One wrote: "That Man Utd goal may have just stopped Isak from moving to Liverpool". 7 7 While another added: "No chance of Isak for us now then". A third commented: "Newcastle in UCL means no chance of Liverpool getting Isak!!" And a fourth posted: "PGMOL have robbed Liverpool of Isak ffs". It could have been a very different outcome too, if not for a huge VAR decision that meant Man Utd were handed a lifeline against Villa. Morgan Rogers had seemingly put Villa ahead in the second half when he nicked the ball away from goalkeeper Altay Bayindir following Harry Maguire 's loose header. But referee Thomas Bramall had blown for a foul by Rogers on Bayindir, only for replays to show the United stopper never had full control of the ball and the goal should therefore have stood. However, due to the official having already blown his whistle for a free-kick, VAR were unable to overturn the decision - Villa's goal was calked off and United went on to bag two goals and win the match 2-0. Reports have since claimed that Aston Villa are considering launching an official complaint over the experience of referee Bramall, who has taken charge of just 11 Prem games this season. Goals from Amad Diallo and Christian Eriksen were the difference for the Red Devils who, despite earning three points, still finished in 15th place in the Premier League. Liverpool may have to say goodbye to their chances of signing Isak, but can take comfort in some of the other names seemingly bound for Anfield next season. Top-rated goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili will arrive following his agreement last summer, while Bayer Leverkusen superstars Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz appear to be on the brink of making a switch to Merseyside. 7 7 7 7

Newcastle's real cup final is against Everton and the prize is keeping Isak out of Arsenal and Liverpool's clutches

FOR MANY Newcastle supporters it's been the season of a lifetime. Finally the 70-year wait for silverware is over after they beat Liverpool at Wembley to lift the Carabao Cup. 7 However, as always in football, the good times rarely last and they perhaps face an even bigger 'cup final' this Sunday. And the prize could very well be Alexander Isak in addition to Champions League football. A few days ago it was all positivity as the confident Toon Army headed to Arsenal dreaming of a fourth-straight win over the Gunners and climbing to second. But Declan Rice 's strike not only ruined their hopes of a highest Premier League finish since 1997, it left them stuck in a tense final day shootout for a top five finish in a match that may also prove to be pivotal for the long-term future of Isak. First things first, Newcastle will be desperate just to have the Swedish superstar back in Black and White this weekend against Everton. Despite their 27-goal top scorer being off form for several weeks, he was sorely missed at the Emirates. And, if anything, his reported valuation of £150m actually INCREASED despite him not even being on the field due to a 'minor groin issue'. Isak, a £63m arrival from Real Sociedad in 2022, has missed four top-flight matches this season with the Magpies collecting only a point without him and failing to even score in open play. CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS 7 7 Eddie Howe knows more than anybody how vital the 25-year-old is to his team and needs him more than ever against the Toffees at St. James'. Though his absence also highlighted just how much he cannot afford to lose Isak either - no matter what money is on offer. Inside Newcastle's £3BILLION new stadium plans with St James' Park project to rival Old Trafford Arsenal, who many opposition fans cheekily joked he skipped facing as they are his 'parent club', have held an interest in the hotshot for years. They are continually linked with a move for him but now they also face competition from Premier League title winners Liverpool. Howe recently revealed his sense of frustration that star men like Isak, captain Bruno Guimaraes and winger Anthony Gordon are constantly linked with moves away. But until Newcastle are playing Champions League season-after-season and able to compete financially with the top guns now their recent PSR constraints holding them back then the speculation and interest will not go away. And even Howe is too long in the tooth to stick his flag in the ground and declare that Isak will 100 per cent still be in the North East next term. Although he was also clear that everyone at the club knows the only way to reach the top is hang on to the striker and their other crown jewels no matter what money may be on offer. 7 Howe said: 'I never make those guarantees about any player and it's not to do with Alex's future but I'd be foolish to sit here and do anything like that. We want to keep our strongest players, I've said that ever since I've been here and sat in this seat. 'We have to try and keep our best players and bring in more good players to make us even stronger because the ambition of the club and everyone connected with the club is long-term success and that's the only way to get that.' While the above words have been twisted, spun and even claimed to be Howe opening the door for a big-money exit, one of their top priorities is to re-open talks on a contract extension for the goal-getter. Newcastle are under no pressure to sell and have him tied down on a package worth around £130,000-a-week until 2028. But they have been expecting more noise from rival clubs to try and unsettle their talisman and are also bracing themselves for similar tactics regarding Guimaraes and Gordon. Tentative contract talks took place in the Autumn but both camps were happy to push them back until the end of the season. 7 Isak's goals, including the Wembley winner, have definitely pushed up his bargaining power. Now Newcastle, even with the Carabao Cup as some potential leverage, desperately need their own bargaining chips bolstered - and Champions League qualification would certainly do it. It is a stage all of the big hitters want to play on and Isak has already had a taste of it on Tyneside. After sticking around despite missing out on Europe completely last season, the idea of another campaign not being able to perform on the grandest stage will not be greeted warmly. That is why to avoid months of speculation, rumours, whispering and even potential unrest from the player himself that a potential defeat to the Blues could bring, it is vital that Newcastle take matters into their own hands come Sunday. A second Champions League qualification in three years and a piece of silverware to boot are the perfect ingredients for both camps to begin thrashing out an extended contract. A victory for Toon would be a win for everybody associated with the Mags and the forward while it would also deliver a crushing blow to the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool. However, if David Moyes ' men come and spoil the St James' party, then a very different summer transfer window could lay for Howe and his recruitment plans. But rather than finish on that worrying note, at least the man himself has previously stated that he believes he can achieve his football ambitions at Newcastle. Isak declared: "That's why I came here." 7
