Heavy rain causes flash floods, landslides and road blockages in HP
Shimla: Over 250 roads, including two highways, remained blocked, while many areas plunged into darkness, and water supply schemes remained disrupted due to flash floods and landslides as heavy rain lashed Himachal Pradesh for the second successive day on Wednesday. According to the state emergency operations centre (SEOC), 289 roads across Himachal remained closed, with the highest 193 roads disrupted in the flood-hit Mandi district. The Chandigarh-Manali highway was also blocked near Pandoh in the morning hours but was later reopened. A portion of the highway also caved in at Kainchi Mod near Pandoh. This patch of the highway was washed away in the 2023 floods and was rebuilt recently. The Mandi-Rewalsar and Jogindernagar-Dharampur roads were also blocked due to landslides. The Aut to Jalori Jot national highway 305 was also disrupted at Nimla due to a landslide. Three vehicles parked in the area were damaged after being struck by boulders. Kullu again: Heavy rain triggers landslide in Sainj valley, villagers evacuated
1 2 Shimla: With incessant rain leading to a landslide on a hill behind Duridhar village in Sainj valley of Kullu district on Saturday, the district administration evacuated 20 inhabitants of 11 houses in the village to a transit camp. Kullu deputy commissioner Torul S Raveesh said that the administration is carrying out the technical assessment of the area affected by the landslide. She added that the affected villagers were shifted to a transit camp at the nearby public works department's rest house. As many as 213 roads, including two national highways, were closed for vehicular traffic on Saturday evening in Himachal Pradesh. The two blocked national highways include NH-70 Mandi-Kotali road and NH-305 Luhri-Nither road, which were blocked due to landslides. Besides this, a total of 31 power distribution transformers and 141 water supply schemes were also affected across the state on Saturday evening, as per the state emergency operation centre (SEOC). As many as 82 people in the hill state lost their lives, and 34 still remain missing from June 20 to July 26 because of monsoon-related incidents.
