The trailer offers glimpses of the pair being chased by police through bustling urban landscapes and encountering a shadowy figure with glowing eyes, hinting at a darker, more complex case than before. Alongside Judy, Nick, and Gary, new characters like Nibbles the beaver (Fortune Feimster) and Dr. Fuzzby, a quokka therapist (Quinta Brunson), add fresh energy to the expanding Zootopia universe. Plus, Shakira returns as pop icon Gazelle, promising a new song and dance moves to keep the city grooving. Conan O'Brien joins 'Toy Story 5': Can't believe this
Comedian and host Conan O'Brien has become the latest addition to the star cast of " Toy Story 5 ". Written and directed by Andrew Stanton , who worked as a writer on the previous four films, "Toy Story 5" is produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Disney. O'Brien will voice the character of Smarty Pants in the film. His team shared a video post on the Instagram handle on Monday, where the actor confirmed the news. "I have got big news, I am going to be in 'Toy Story 5'. Isn't that crazy? Legendary franchise. These films are amazing. I can't believe this," he is heard saying in the video. He said he initially wanted to play the role of Woody or Buzz until he was introduced to his character. "But anyway, then they showed me this new character, Smarty Pants. It's the best character of them all. I far prefer this character. I don't even wanna play Woody or Buzz anymore, even if they beg me. I'm Smarty Pants; I love this," he added. "Toy Story 5" is slated to release in US theatres on June 19, 2026. AI Animation Firm Cartwheel Emerges From Beta; Pixar Alums In Exec Ranks, Jeffrey Katzenberg's WndrCo Among Backers
EXCLUSIVE: AI firm Cartwheel has emerged from closed beta, promising to help make the 3D animation process smoother and accessible to a wider range of creative workers. The company was co-founded by Jonathan Jarvis and Andrew Carr. Jarvis, who is CEO, spent nearly seven years at Google and also runs animation and gaming studio Universal Patterns. Carr, who is Chief Scientist, interned at Google and later worked at OpenAI. Along with its emergence from beta, the company revealed $10 million in new funding led by David Sacks' VC firm Craft Ventures, bringing its total funding to $15.6 million. Participants in the latest funding round include existing investors like Katzenberg's WndrCo, Ben Feder's Tirta, Accel, Khosla Ventures, Human Ventures and established AI firm Runway. Cartwheel focuses on 3D animation, in particular aiding the process of how animated characters move, and says 60,000 people have signed up for the waitlist to gain access to its set of tools. During the closed beta, the company's tools were used by creatives at companies including DreamWorks, Duolingo, Sony and Roblox. The company says it can turn video, text and large motion libraries into production-ready 3D character animations that can be moved, edited and downloaded directly into current workflows. Along with prototyping ideas or refining their work, animators can also tap Cartwheel's library for a motion to fit or inspire their scene. Even non-pros can use Cartwheel to generate video clips, and designers and developers can turn their character animations into files to be added to apps or websites. The co-founders compared their company's impact on the field of animation to that of the iPhone on photography. 'We've developed a new way to simplify the animation process, putting creatives in the drivers' seat as they dramatically accelerate their workflows, eliminate tedious tasks, free up budget for more creative exploration, and enhance control over their final products,' they said. The company's impact will be felt across animated films, anime, gaming, advertising and storyboarding, social media and other areas, they said. At Pixar, Hicks was animation director and worked on more than 15 movies, including the Oscar-winning Inside Out, Coco and Toy Story 3. She is Cartwheel's head of animation innovation. Helm, who is the head of interactive animation at Cartwheel, focused on motion and crowd elements at Pixar, working on Inside Out 2, Turning Red, Lightyear, and the third and fourth Toy Story installments. 'Cartwheel has changed the entire paradigm of animation by introducing a new toolset that builds on the artistry of animation, making productions more efficient so more stories can be told,' Feder, Managing Partner at Tirta Ventures. 'Where concepts could take days, weeks, or months to visualize, Cartwheel's technology makes the process virtually instant, unleashing an entirely new world of storytelling possibilities.' Conan O'Brien Joins the Cast of TOY STORY 5 — GeekTyrant
Comedian and host Conan O'Brien is set to take on the new role of Smarty Pants in Toy Story 5 , Disney and Pixar announced on Monday, during the Consumer Products section of Disney's Licensing Expo presentation. O'Brien appeared in a video Instagram message celebrating the news, saying, 'Isn't that crazy? Legendary franchise. These films are amazing. I can't believe this!' Admittedly, O'Brien said, he asked initially for the role of Woody and was told it was promised to Tom Hanks. 'And I was like, 'Uh, you kinda been there and done that. You know? You'e in a bit of a rut, don't you think?' And they said, 'No, Tom Hanks, it's his role,'' Conan shared. He joked that he then went after the role of Buzz Lightyear, only to be told he lost it to Tim Allen. 'And I went, 'Guys, you gotta think outside the box,'' O'Brien deadpanned. 'But anyway, then they showed me this new character, Smarty Pants. It's the best character of them all. I far prefer this character. I don't even wanna play Woody or Buzz anymore, even if they beg me. I'm Smarty Pants; I love this!' No further details on O'Brien's character were provided. In the new film, slated for release on June 19, 2026, it's Toy meets Tech when Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang's jobs are challenged after being introduced to what kids are obsessed with today—electronics! The film hails from writer-director Andrew Stanton, the two-time Oscar winner behind WALL-E and Finding Nemo . McKenna Harris is co-directing, with Jessica Choi producing and Pete Docter exec producing. Others newcomers to feature in the voice cast, as previously announced, include Ernie Hudson, who takes over the late Carl Weathers's role of action figure Combat Carl, and Anna Faris in an undisclosed part.
