Lancaster man accused of killing business owner after family argument leads to ‘violent rampage': Sheriff

LANCASTER, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man was and charged with murder following what authorities are calling an hours-long 'violent rampage' that included the shooting death of a Lancaster business owner. According to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded just before 6 p.m. May 21 to a home on Memorial Park Road. The suspect, 52-year-old Roger Ledell Baskins had been temporality living there with family members. NC man killed attempting to cross road at busy Rock Hill intersection Deputies say an argument occurred between Baskins and family members, and Baskins reportedly pulled out a pistol, threatening a family member with it before firing several shots into another family member's car. According to the sheriff's office, he then used a car battery to smash windows out of the car he shot and a car belonging to a third family member. No one was injured during this incident. Baskins left the scene on foot, and officers with the Lancaster Police Department found him in a yard on North Willow Lake Road, where he was captured after a chase. Witnesses reported that he drove to that location in a 1997 Toyota 4-Runner, which was also on scene. Officers determined the vehicle is owned by a 65-year-old from Rock Hill. Officers with the Rock Hill Police Department contacted the man's wife, who told them he operates a business on Memorial Park Road, near where the family disturbance occurred. Sheriff's deputies checked the business and reportedly found the man, later identified as Charles Wilburn Presler, dead from an apparent gunshot wound. He also appeared to be robbed. When Baskins was detained, deputies say he was in possession of documents belonging to the victim, and a pistol was reportedly found in the 4-Runner. Investigators with the Lancaster County Multijurisdictional Violent Crime Task Force and sheriff's office crime scene investigators along with the coroner were summoned. Baskins was arrested and transported to the Lancaster County Detention Center. In connection with the homicide, Baskins is charged with: Armed robbery Second-degree burglary Grand Larceny ($2,000 – $10,000) Three counts of Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Violent Crime Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Convicted of Certain Crimes. In connection with the domestic disturbance, Baskins is charged with: Pointing and Presenting a Firearm (two counts) Breach of Peace of a High and Aggravated Nature Malicious Injury to Personal Property valued at $2,000-$10,000 Malicious Injury to Personal Property valued under $2,000. SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) — Two people are dead following separate crashes that happened in the Slidell area on Wednesday, April 30. According to the Louisiana State Police, troopers with Troop L began investigating the first crash, which happened on Interstate 10 near the near US Highway 190 exit, around 8:30 p.m. The initial investigation shows that that 30-year-old Tyler B. Israel, of Arabi, was driving a 2002 Toyota 4-Runner east on I-10 when he reportedly hit a 2025 Mazda CX 50 that was also heading east. Murder trial against Bunnak Landon continues day into fourth day Troopers say Israel was unrestrained and pronounced dead on scene. The Mazda's driver was properly restrained and uninjured. Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers for analysis in the ongoing investigation. Troopers started investigating the second crash, which happened on the I-10 Twin Span Bridge between Ole Spanish Trail and Irish Bayou, around 9:45 p.m. The initial investigation reportedly shows that a pedestrian entered the left lane of traffic on the interstate when at the same time, a 2021 Chevrolet Malibu was heading east on the same road. The pedestrian, whose name is withheld pending notification of next of kin, was hit and pronounced dead on scene. Dearman Bridgett is suing Frank's Lounge and the driver of the motorcycle his daughter was on at the time of the crash. Officials say DeeDee Bridgett, 43, died on September 25, 2024 from injuries she sustained when she was thrown from a motorcycle driven by Andrew Brill. The lawsuit claims Frank's Lounge on South Main Street in Joplin, continued serving alcohol to Brill when he was visibly intoxicated. What we know The crash happened just after 3 p.m. on Williamson Valley Road near Levie Lane, which is northwest of Prescott. At the scene, Yavapai County Sheriff's deputies found a man and child dead. Another child died while on the way to the hospital. A third child and three adults are in the hospital. What they're saying "Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver, identified as Jesse Forman from Chino Valley, driving a Toyota 4-Runner carrying his 3 young children and the mother of the children, crossed over double lines and collided head-on with a Jeep SUV, carrying a woman in her 60s and her adult son. These individuals were also flown to a Flagstaff hospital with serious injuries," the sheriff's office said. What's next The sheriff's office is looking into what caused this crash, and if impairment and/or speed were factors. "Traffic enforcement on Williamson Valley Road has been a priority for YCSO after recent complaints from the public. YCSO will continue to conduct more speed and driving enforcement in the area. ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Virginia State Police (VSP) is investigating a fatal two-vehicle accident that occurred on Saturday on Route 11 in Rockbridge County. On March 1 at approximately 11:20 a.m., a collision occurred at the intersection of Pine Forest Road. A 2005 Toyota 4-Runner did not yield to the right of way when turning onto Route 11 from a stop sign on Pine Forest Road. The Toyota was hit by a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 that was traveling south on Route 11. Seven wanted for violent charges in Lynchburg arrested in 'warrant roundup' 79-year-old Patricia Ann Bane of Lexington, Va., was identified as the driver of the Toyota. She was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash. Ms. Bane died at the scene. The 40-year-old driver of the Ram was transported to a local hospital to be treated for injuries.
