Exclusive Tracker Finale Trailer Reveals Major Returning Character
Is Colter Shaw about to track down the truth about his father's murder? The Tracker Season 2 finale is only one week away, and TVLine has an exclusive extended trailer. Airing Sunday, May 11 (CBS, 8/7c), the episode sees Colter return to Echo Ridge to investigate a diner owner's disappearance, only to uncover a decades-old kidnapping… and a shocking family secret. At the time, Colter believed that Russell (Jensen Ackles) was responsible for killing Dad, and Mom did little to dissuade him. In fact, she insisted that Colter dodge his brother's calls. Several weeks later, the Shaw siblings reunited and cleared the air. Russell swore that he did not kill Dad; there was someone else in the woods that night, and whoever it was probably pushed Dad to his death. By then, we knew that Ashton spent seven years working as a covert government contractor. We also knew that he had enemies. Come Season 2, Colter and Russell were confronted by a government spook who knew an awful lot about Dad. And this week, younger sister Dory (Melissa Roxburgh) delivered Colter a file box full of Dad's research on zero point energy — a box that'd previously been left with Lizzy's mom, a former colleague with whom Ashton had an extramarital affair. Was it his research that got him killed? When Colter is finally reunited with Mary in the Season 2 finale, she insists that there's a lot she didn't know about her husband… but she also hasn't given her son a reason to believe her. At one point in the following promo, we see a teary-eyed Colter hold someone at gunpoint. Is it possible that Mom is staring down the barrel of his firearm? Watch the finale trailer above, then leave a comment and share your theories about Ashton Shaw's murder. Do you think we'll finally receive answers at the end of Season 2? Queen Latifah Pays Tribute to The Equalizer After CBS Cancellation: ‘Everything I Hoped It Would Be'
The Equalizer's mission may be over at CBS, but star and executive producer Queen Latifah has nothing but gratitude for the five-season run. Following CBS' decision to cancel the crime procedural on Friday, Queen Latifah took to Instagram to pay tribute to her time on the series: 'Stepping into a kick-ass role like Robyn was everything I hoped it would be. Shakim and I at Flavor Unit are always excited to bring these kinds of roles and projects to life — and then we just hope you love them as much as we do. The Equalizer blew past every dream we had for it, and having the opportunity to do this for five seasons honestly feels surreal.' She added: 'Thank you to our amazing cast, crew, and producers and writers! And I can't say enough about the FANS! Y'all have been so loyal, so loud, and so ride-or-die — and that's exactly why we keep doing this. We can't thank you enough. It means the world to us. And don't worry — I'll be back kicking ass in something new real soon. Can't wait to share it with you.' The Equalizer, which premiered in 2021, was a gender-flipped reimagining of the classic Edward Woodward procedural, with Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall, 'an enigmatic woman with a mysterious background who uses her extensive skills as a former CIA operative to help those with nowhere else to turn,' according to the official logline. 'McCall presents to most as an average single mom who is quietly raising her teenage daughter. But to a trusted few, she is The Equalizer – an anonymous guardian angel and defender of the downtrodden, who's also dogged in her pursuit of personal redemption.' The cast also included Tory Kittles (as Detective Marcus Dante), Adam Goldberg (as master hacker Harry Keshegian), Liza Lapira (as bar owner/sniper Melody 'Mel' Bayani), Laya DeLeon Hayes (as Robyn's daughter Delilah) and Lorraine Toussaint (as Robyn's aunt, Viola 'Vi' Marsette). The cancellation means this Sunday's season finale (10/9c) will now serve as a series finale. 2025 Renewal/Cancellation Scorecard: What's Already Axed? What's on the Bubble? The Equalizer Cancelled at CBS
Robyn McCall's vigilante days are over: CBS has cancelled The Equalizer after five seasons, TVLine has learned. That means this Sunday's season finale (10/9c) will now serve as a series finale. The cancellation follows CBS' decision not to proceed with a Titus Welliver-led spinoff. More from TVLine Elsbeth EP Promises 'We'll Still Honor Female Friendship as Major Part of This Show' Following Kaya's Departure In Melissa Roxburgh's Tracker Encore, Colter Gets His Hands on Dad's 'Genius' Work - Does It Contain Smoking Gun? Elsbeth Co-Star Not Returning as Series Regular for Season 3 Season-to-date, The Equalizer is averaging 6.1 million total viewers (with Live+7 playback), down some 25% from its Season 4 audience. Out of the 14 dramas that CBS has aired this season, it ranks No. 12 (besting only the NCIS: Sydney and the cancelled S.W.A.T.). Not helping The Equalizer's cause is the fact that it started Season 5 in an hour-than-later time slot (with Tracker now leading out of the well-watched 60 Minutes). Then at midseason, it got pushed back another hour, to lead out of Watson. The Equalizer, which premiered in 2021, is a gender-flipped reimagining of the classic Edward Woodward procedural. Queen Latifah plays Robyn McCall, 'an enigmatic woman with a mysterious background who uses her extensive skills as a former CIA operative to help those with nowhere else to turn,' according to the official logline. 'McCall presents to most as an average single mom who is quietly raising her teenage daughter. But to a trusted few, she is The Equalizer – an anonymous guardian angel and defender of the downtrodden, who's also dogged in her pursuit of personal redemption.' Rounding out the ensemble are Tory Kittles (as Detective Marcus Dante), Adam Goldberg (as master hacker Harry Keshegian), Liza Lapira (as bar owner/sniper Melody 'Mel' Bayani), Laya DeLeon Hayes (as Robyn's daughter Delilah) and Lorraine Toussaint (as Robyn's aunt, Viola 'Vi' Marsette). The Equalizer joins dramas FBI: Most Wanted, FBI: International and S.W.A.T., freshman comedy Poppa's House and reality competition The Summit on the cancellation pile at CBS this season. The network has also ordered Blue Bloods offshoot Boston Blue, CIA (starring Lucifer's Tom Ellis) and the Harriet Dyer comedy DMV for next season. CBS' full fall schedule will be unveiled next Wednesday, May 7. TVLine's Renewal/Cancellation Scorecard has been updated to reflect The Equalizer's demise. Elsbeth EP Promises ‘We'll Still Honor Female Friendship as Major Part of This Show' Following Kaya's Departure
Elsbeth is losing not only a colleague, but also one of her closest friends following the recent news that co-star Carra Patterson will not return as a series regular next season. As reported by our sister site Deadline, the actress will appear in a guest-star capacity in Season 3 as her character, Detective Kaya Blanke, moves on to a new career opportunity. In this week's episode, Kaya received an offer to join a special law enforcement task force that will require training in Washington, D.C., as well as undercover work, taking her away from New York. Kaya was hesitant, at first, to leave behind her current job, but Captain Wagner encouraged her not to pass up a possible once-in-a-lifetime professional opportunity. More from TVLine Elsbeth Co-Star Not Returning as Series Regular for Season 3 Elsbeth's Michael Emerson Talks Judge Crawford's 'Shakespearean' Downfall, Teases 'Lighthearted' Tone Ahead In Melissa Roxburgh's Tracker Encore, Colter Gets His Hands on Dad's 'Genius' Work - Does It Contain Smoking Gun? 'Kaya is still such an important part of the show and is not leaving the world of the show. She will be back. We love her and love the character, and she'll be back as often we can have her,' showrunner Jonathan Tolins reassures TVLine, echoing his statements to Deadline. But there's still plenty of concern and disappointment from fans who are worried about losing the friendship between Elsbeth and Kaya, which has been one of the CBS drama's strongest elements. 'I would say in addition to making the show, we are fans of the show and love the show,' Tolins says in response to the viewer reaction, 'and we have all the same feelings, and we're going to keep trying to preserve and honor what we've done so far and to keep all those feelings going forward. … Female friendship is very important to our show, and I think we will still honor female friendship as a major part of this show, even though we'll be seeing a little less of Kaya.' Meanwhile, Kaya's new journey presents an opportunity to 'open up some wonderful stories' for the series' titular lawyer, star Carrie Preston tells TVLine, adding that working with Patterson is 'such a gift.' 'But what I love about our show is that we don't get too comfortable in anything, and so we enjoy those moments together [between Elsbeth, Kaya and Wagner] when we have them, and we will continue to enjoy them more when we get them, and we'll probably appreciate them even more because we won't be getting them every day,' the actress shares. 'So I think it's an opportunity to really enrich the character and the storylines, to have a fresh new take on what Elsbeth is like when she doesn't have someone like Kaya to lean on. How is she going to walk onto a crime scene without her? What's that going to look like?' For Tolins, Kaya's task-force job represents the culmination of a two-season arc for the officer, who wanted to be a detective from the very beginning. 'We are also excited that we got to see this character achieve her dream and to overcome some obstacles to getting there,' Tolins says, 'and the relationship between Elsbeth and Kaya is one that is always so supportive, and Elsbeth supporting Kaya in this new adventure she's going on, it all feels really good for these characters.' Adds Preston: 'They so brilliantly and deftly just took [Kaya] to this place where it became a natural thing for her to be elevated and promoted. And it's just the structure of our show [that] Elsbeth doesn't work with the same detective on every case. And so, we came to this point, as well, story-wise, where Kaya needed to fly and echo, in some ways, what Elsbeth has been doing, which is reinventing herself. And so, we have this wonderful little parallel now between what Kaya is doing and what Elsbeth is continuing to do.' fans, are you feeling a little bit better about the Kaya/Patterson news now? Tracker Solves Gina Picket Case in Midseason Premiere — Grade It
Colter Shaw's white whale case has finally been solved — but TV's Tracker didn't necessarily get the outcome he wanted. Sunday's midseason premiere revealed that serial killer 'The Teacher' was a man by the name of Noah Darview (played by The X-Files' Nicholas Lea) — an anesthesiologist who worked as a traveling doctor for a locum tenens company and found his victims in several states, which made it virtually impossible for authorities to connect the dots. More from TVLine Melissa Roxburgh Shares Update on Tracker Encore, Potential Supernatural Reunion With Jensen Ackles (Video) Ratings Check-In: Tracker, Matlock, 60 Minutes and FBI Lead This TV Season's Non-Sports Fare SNL50: Watch All the Highlights From the Star-Studded Anniversary Special (Updating Live) When he was younger, Darview retrieved his own victims. Once he got older, he recruited 'disciples' — young men like Frank Whales (Ryan Dorsey), all of whom were already registered sex offenders — to do his bidding for him. He was never at any of the crime scenes that his young, female victims disappeared from, so he was never even a suspect. It wasn't until Colter, with an unlikely assist from Whales (R.I.P.), captured Darview and turned him over to the police that he confessed to killing Gina Picket. What's more, he admitted where he buried all the bodies, which afforded Colter's ex Camille (Floriana Lima) the closure she so richly deserved. After a proper funeral, Camille told Colter that she intended to leave the country and travel the world. But she also told him that this was not goodbye — and if she ever returns, she would give him a ring. Likewise, it was time for Keaton (Brent Sexton) to hit the road. Before he and Colter parted ways, the retired cop told Shaw that he's just a phone call away should he ever need his help on another case. What did you think of s midseason premiere? Were you satisfied with the outcome of the Gina Picket case? And should the show do more multi-episode arcs like this one, or stick to its usual case-of-the-week format?
