Four arrested for Chris Hani Road cellphone theft
A GANG of suspects linked to several cases of cellphone theft and robbery across Durban, were arrested on Friday afternoon (May 16) following a high-speed chase that ended in Sydenham.
The suspects had also allegedly stolen a cellphone from a spares shop on Chris Hani Road (North Coast Road) on the same day just after 14:00.
'The business owner reported that several suspects had arrived in a blue VW Polo and approached him in a seemingly friendly manner. During the interaction the suspects stole his cellphone from his pocket and fled the scene in the same vehicle,' explained Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell

'The vehicle was spotted by KwaMashu SAPS travelling at high speed through the Avoca Hills area. Our members joined the pursuit along Queen Nandi Drive, where the suspects attempted to evade capture by driving recklessly at extreme speeds. The high-speed chase eventually ended when the suspects turned down a dead-end road in the Sydenham area,' he said.
Police recovered several cellphones, including the one stolen earlier on Chris Hani Road.
'Further investigation revealed that the individuals are linked to numerous robbery cases involving stolen cellphones across Durban.'
